Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 355: The soft fears the hard_1

The Little Caribbean, a mid-sized pirate gang that hovered on the edge of the Bermuda Star River, had a business primarily preying on smuggling vessels in the asteroid belt without usually approaching sovereign territories. It was only when wars broke out that they had the chance to take advantage of the situation.

The Little Caribbean Pirate Gang had some reputation in the dark world of the Bermuda Star River. No one knew the real name of their leader, or rather, people had forgotten what he was called. They only knew that he had a moniker - the Powder Keg.

Indeed, the personality of Powder Keg, the man himself, matched his unpredictable nickname perfectly. Despite his seemingly warm and friendly demeanor, he was not a man to be taken lightly. When the Powder Keg erupted, even his long-time comrades would tremble in fear.

In truth, this mass murderer was nothing short of a lunatic. His temper was volatile. One moment he'd smile warmly at the latest merchants he'd captured, the next his knife would be plunged unexpectedly into your heart. The Powder Keg took great pleasure in the shocked expressions of his victims, giving them hope only to thrust them from heaven into hell. The ensuing despair would excite him to the point of trembling.

Except for the regular army, anyone active on the Bermuda route felt a chill at the mention of the Little Caribbean Pirate Gang. However, today, someone had crossed the line with the Powder Keg. A shuttle disobeyed orders to stop and even mocked him. It shouldn't have provoked the Powder Keg. Now, it would have to pay in blood.

After learning that the Bounty Tribe might pass through this route, he had been lying in wait for half a month. Instead of catching his fish, he found a light shuttle that hardly counted as a snack. What was worse, this simple-minded shuttle had the audacity to provoke the famous Little Caribbean Pirate Gang straight on. The Powder Keg nearly ground his teeth to bits.

Nobody ever dared to challenge his authority. Never. Not a single one!

With a fierce expression, he ordered his men to chase it down, insisting on either the live body or a cold corpse.

"Boss, moving away from the asteroid belt could lead us directly into Saudi's radar. It could be more trouble than it's worth." The one who dared to voice a different opinion was the gang's second-in-command.

The Powder Keg was all too aware of the survival rule of the bigger fish eating the smaller ones. Merchant ships were his prey, but the Little Caribbean Pirate Gang was also a tempting catch in Saudi's eyes. Spitting bitterly, he ordered a team of small-speed boats to launch the attack, convinced that there was no way they would be detected by the Saudi regular army in the vast Bermuda Star River.

Five speedboats quickly left the carrier. By this time, Feng Yi had already made his escape. He hit the accelarator and changed directions, flying behind a small asteroid for cover. After all, beam weapons were still a grave concern.

The chasing pirates sent out two Heavenly Communications signaling Feng Yi to stop. Seeing that he wouldn't stop, they couldn't help but rejoice. This was the reaction they had been hoping for. Their hands hadn't been stained with blood for a while, and they just got a perfect excuse to destroy the shuttle.

"You can catch me if you can." Feng Yi responded briefly within the Heavenly Communication. He decided to ruthlessly push the three-fold speed device to the max. The shuttle, like suddenly letting out a loud fart, let off a dazzling rosy glow and disappeared into the never-endings span of stars.

Opportunities escape so swiftly. Although Feng Yi appeared casual, he never dared to be careless, skillfully weaving the shuttle through numerous detours and rotations...

His priority was to shake off his pursuers as quickly as possible once he entered the safety of the asteroid belt. If hit by a laser weapon, he would be in serious trouble. The laser could still cause significant damage, despite the distance, given the shuttle was just a light shuttle with minimal defense against the weapon.

In that moment, the shuttle, Roaring Flame, was like a wild mustang gone berserk, accelerating forward.

Behind him, the seven speed boats were in hot pursuit, their engines roaring at full throttle, determined to shoot the shuttle down immediately.

The distance between the two sides was growing visibly, but to a laser weapon's eyes, the acceleration might still be insignificant. When a beam brushed 50 meters past the shuttle, Feng Yi broke out in a cold sweat!

Damn it, they were really going for it. Was Feng Yi afraid? Who wouldn't be in such a situation? But he had good reason to stay collected. He was certain that the space pirates would not dare to chase after him recklessly, since that could very likely result in a Saudi military operation targeting them. It would be a total loss for the pirates simply for a light shuttle.

You see, catching the likes of Feng Yi wouldn't get them much loot, but a mid-sized pirate gang had a value that could attract military intervention. If Saudi got news of a mid-sized pirate gang operating near their fleets, they would seize the opportunity to strike.

At this speed, it would take at least ten to fifteen minutes to shake off the five speedboats. Feng Yi wasn't optimistic about his chances of evading all the laser attacks within this period.

His piloting skills were, after all, only at a beginner level. And today, he faced a challenger ready to put his own life on the line just to kill him. @$%&*... Feng Yi had never resented the space pirates as he did in that moment. It was like being a tiger falling flat on the ground, ridiculed by dogs. Today was just a horrendous day.

Feng Yi was facing a formidable problem. As the saying goes, the soft are bullied by the hard, the stubborn ones by the aggressive, and the insane ones, are bullied by those who aren't afraid to die. To hell with it! Feng Yi thought, bracing himself to face death without fear, he abruptly turned the shuttle toward the Saudi Space Fortress.

At first, the pursuing space pirates were too taken aback to react. They quickly realized their big mistake as they saw the light shuttle change direction. Was that scoundrel trying to lure them into the area controlled by Saudi's military forces? If the Saudi military caught the pirates, it wouldn't just be the end for them, even the scoundrel himself would likely be shot down immediately, perhaps even before having the chance to explain. This was an utter death wish!

The pursuing space pirates collectively shivered. Failing the mission was one thing, but continuing the pursuit could mean death.

At the X95B8-Y45970 coordinates of the Bermuda star river, a massive fortress towered. This fortress, codenamed 0075, was a level three fortress, approximately the size of two space colony cities. An intelligence officer at the fortress' core received a series of signals about six unidentified flying objects moving rapidly towards them from .032 astronomical units away. An estimation suggested that they could be five speedboats and one light civilian shuttle.

Once within the effective firing range, or X astronomical units, a single shot from a modified long-range light beam gun would turn the unidentified objects into cosmic dust. With the received intel, the space fleet on standby was quick to dispatch two escort ships to chase them down.

At the same time as the escorts were dispatched, the six unidentified flying objects, as if in a tacit understanding, all changed their direction and quickly disappeared.

They can't just walk away now that they're here. Regardless of their identities, having dispatched escort ships implied they had to do something. The Saudi side decided to pursue immediately. It would take half an hour to fully increase the pursuit speed; therefore, there would be an inherent risk of losing the target in the next thirty minutes.
