The red mobile suit scanned the area once before taking to the skies again. Its arrival seemed more like a chance encounter with this battlefield during its patrol. It vanished not long after taking note of the situation...
Following the departure of the elite soldiers in red, it wasn't long before the Terminators, believing the guerrillas had all been wiped out, gave the order to retreat. The commanders ordered the mechas to disregard any collateral damage, bulldozing a swath of houses and structure as they made their exit.
These beasts did not care at all for the lives of ordinary people. Feng Yi's brows furrowed deeper and deeper as he coldly surveyed the scene...
The next second, a whirlwind of energy engulfed Feng Yi, enabling his stealth mode. His body blended seamlessly with his environment, rendering him invisible to scanning detection systems. He followed the enemy's trail, determined to infiltrate their base. This was his direct retaliation against Pross's inhuman actions.
Clang, clang, clang...
The rapidly moving Terminators were incredibly fast, but Feng Yi was faster. Exercising all his skills, he finally caught sight of a large barracks some tens of kilometers away.
It was an enemy front-line unit, housed in a strategically placed encampment overlooking the scene. The encampment was filled with Terminators. With guards patrolling ceaselessly, Feng Yi dodged them by sprinting and leaping and snuck into the encampment unnoticed...
Swiftly stepping out of the undergrowth, Feng Yi grabbed a Pross soldier by the neck and swiftly twisted, snapping it. He didn't think he could get much information out of these people. Interrogating them would only risk alerting the others.
He quickly searched the soldier's body, and within three seconds, found two items of interest. One was a magnetic card indicating the use of a mobile suit with the serial number 163554597. Possessing this card was equivalent to having the right to use the mobile suit with the corresponding serial number. The other was a key. This key was vital for infiltrating the prisoner of war camp undetected.
Feng Yi quickly scoped out the rest of the camp and concluded that wiping it out single-handedly was not difficult. By commandeering a mobile suit and launching a surprise attack, the Imperial soldiers wouldn't even have time to react.
However, another pressing issue lay at hand. How was he to deal with the enemy soldiers and rescue his federation comrades at the same time? Once he launched his surprise attack, he would likely be too occupied to worry about the prisoners. If he freed them now, it would tip off the enemy.
Time was not on his side. He had to formulate an effective plan quickly, else everything would be for naught once the guards changed shifts and noticed the disappearance of the sentries.
Yet, despite his attempts, Feng Yi struggled to formulate a viable plan. It was like being caught between a rock and a hard place, with no way around. The ticking clock made it impossible for him to ponder any longer.
To hell with it. An arrow drawn must be released. Faced with a dilemma, Feng Yi preferred to trust his fellow soldiers. He sent a quick Heavenly Communication to Huang Zhennan, giving him his location, and then charged into the prisoner camp. He took down the guards before they could even utter a warning.
The prisoners were surprised to see Feng Yi, but he was even more shocked by what he saw in the camp…
In a short period of a month, this frontline unit from Prote had detained an untold number of POWs. The Federation soldiers had not been afforded the appropriate treatment as prisoners of war. They were shackled and some were so thin they seemed to have starved to death in the squalid iron cages. The Prote soldiers had obviously subjected them to extensive interrogation; from the severity of the wounds and time of death, it was evident that some had been beaten to death.
The female soldiers who were more attractive had disheveled hair and revealing clothes. Their blank stare suggested they had suffered degrading treatment. Was it possible to boost the morale of such a group and get them back on their feet?
"I am a federal soldier who came to rescue you..." Feng Yi wanted to continue speaking, but apart from a few people, most of the prisoners of war seemed to have mentally collapsed. They were indifferent to Feng Yi's appearance, simply staring blankly into space as if lost in their own worlds.
"This is sheer resignation. You are flesh and blood federal soldiers, not a bunch of walking corpses." Feng Yi felt a wave of anger surge in his heart towards those visibly hopeless prisoners of war. "Listen up!" He roared authoritatively, his penetrating voice drawing some of them back to consciousness.
"I can feel your despair, and I understand your feelings of hopelessness. Believe that things can get better—but now is not the time to surrender. I will lead you out of here, and I need your cooperation."
Many lifted their heads in response. A prisoner of war, who seemed relatively composed, questioned, "How can we trust you, and how should we cooperate?"
"Since I could infiltrate this place alone, I could get you out alive. Trust me, as there's no other way out." Feng Yi said, presenting a hand-drawn map. "What I ask of you is simple."
As he unlocked their restraints with swift strokes, he explained the action plan, demanding that they do not make unnecessary noise or acts once they have their temporary freedom. They just needed to quickly retreat to the location marked on the map. Given five minutes, they could swiftly evacuate via a safe route unseen by the guards. Only then could Feng Yi guarantee that the upcoming combat would not affect the prisoner-of-war camp.
The retreat took much longer than Feng Yi had anticipated. A few of the female soldiers who had collapsed mentally were not only unable to move but were also completely paralyzed and lost. If it weren't for the male soldiers carrying them, the consequences could have been unimaginable.
Fortunately, there were no mishaps midway, as the troop maintained their fundamental discipline.
Feng Yi quickly identified a Terminator Mecha with the serial number 163554597 after some observation. "Hey, who are you," a nearby guard yelled, noticing something was off about Feng Yi.
Ignoring the guard, Feng Yi rushed into the mecha cockpit and began to rapidly tap the control panel...he turned off the OFF mode and the pitch-dark Mecha cockpit instantly lit up. The electronic imaging device indicated that all functions were normal with 53% energy consumption and estimated 977 hours of remaining battery life. The Light Shield was 100% charged, ammunition was sufficient, and the X4 extreme firepower output was ready under his control. The C device quickly reported the Mecha's various data.
With the roar of the engine, Feng Yi responded to the guard with a burst of concentrated fire from his secondary canon. Against the Pross soldiers, Feng Yi harbored no sympathy. As the 155mm main weapon rained down and exploded, the originally quiet camp suddenly echoed with alarm.
"Enemy attack, enemy attack..."
Boom, boom, boom, boom. The guard's words were instantly drowned out by the deafening noise of the X4 firepower. Feng Yi's hand speed must have reached at least 200 keystrokes per minute, exceeding everyone else's ability in the camp, to enable him to use the X4 overriding function.
Upon hearing the noise, the Pross soldiers had immediately rushed out of their barracks to board their mechas, but Feng Yi would not give these beasts any time to get into their mechas.
The auto-loading speed of the 155mm main cannon couldn't keep up with the weapon's firing rate. In less than five minutes, the camp was transformed into a sea of fire. Surrounding barracks collapsed in the blast wave, and Pross soldiers who had managed to run out were trapped and killed on the spot.
Well, Feng Yi intentionally avoided firing the mecha's wide-range weapons into crowds for a simple reason. His decision to seize the camp's mobile soldiers could be linked to the swift gathering of the 77 soldiers. He wanted to capture the mechas in this camp.
