Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 328 Battle Line Simulation_1

"Bastards of Pross, taste the power of my alloy gun!" came the roar of a Federation soldier from the loudspeaker. Two mechas quickly advanced and their Gun Riders swung their alloy guns, thrusting directly at the Terminator. They moved extremely fast.

The Terminator was quick to react. Its pilot jerked the control stick and issued a flurry of commands, causing the mech to swerve right and dodge the attack. The soldiers of the Pross Empire demonstrated their formidable close combat skills.

But they were not quick enough. The Terminator and the Gun Rider had a common feature: they were both medium-built, agile machines. However, the Gun Rider's close combat skills were far superior to those of the Terminator. In the middle of the battle, the Gun Rider changed tactics and thrust his spear into the Terminator's chest, then tugged it outward, sending the enemy mech flying...

The Terminator's body flickered with sparks of fire and electricity, and it did not rise again afterward. This tactic, known as "lantern-viewing sword", had been custom-made for the Gun Riders by Feng Yi. The following moves were connected in a series, like a psychological war. By the time the enemy tried to dodge the spear, they had already fallen into the trap. If the enemy managed to dodge, there were two more changes waiting—an attack called "Dragon Tail Whip", which involved using the alloy gun to smack the enemy's body, followed by another quick attack with a laser gun. Even if it did not kill the enemy, it would severely damage them.

Succinctly, the strategy resembled a three-part strike combo where each involved attack was deadlier than the last. For expert fighters, it wasn't too difficult to defend against it, given their wealth of combat experience. They could spot the insubstantial force of the alloy spear thrust and realise it was a feint. But for an ordinary soldier, it was deadly.

The military had a basic set of offensive and defensive guidelines for every main model of their machines. But because of the pilot's operational capabilities and speed, it was difficult to utilise it effectively in most battlefield situations. In ancient martial arts novels, anyone could talk about what type of martial arts to use, but in a real fight, it all comes down to basic skills. Who would have time to pair your moves?

But Feng Yi was different. The skills he taught his soldiers were all about efficient tactics—no matter the direction or the angle, as long as they mastered these tactics, they could launch the simplest and most direct counterattack or effectively defend themselves. They weren't restricted by the military's rigid routines. This tactic could even hold up to Red Cloak-level entities, blocking a few moves without being instantly destroyed.

In the fight, five of the original twelve Gun Riders had already fallen. The remaining seven mechas stood there, dumbfounded...

The formation was simply not human. One or two 'Gourd Babies' would have been manageable, but with thirty 'Gourd Babies' using the same unpredictable methods, the result was simply astonishing.

Anyone with keen eyes could see that this seemingly simple movement was actually extremely powerful. Upon seeing the incoming thrust, ordinary mech soldiers would typically not choose to fight back with laser shots because the enemy had a defense shield, which ordinary shields could hardly resist the penetrating power of the alloy gun. The only choice left was to dodge. But once they dodged, they would be subjected to a follow-up attack as relentless as a downpour.

The Federation soldiers handled their alloy guns skillfully, occasionally letting out a few war cries. "See the gun!"

As enemy soldiers continued to fall, Feng Yi looked at the time—it was just about right. Suddenly, he issued a retreat command. This surprise attack was very successful. Within a short time, a whole battalion of the Pross Empire had exhausted most of their strength. The sudden counterattack from the disintegrating Federation troops had taken them completely by surprise. After a long time fighting in space, the troops were fatigued and had depleted their spirits. They were clearly not a match for these people.

Feng Yi knew they could not stay any longer. Although to continue to delay and wear down this unit was only a matter of time, lingering there might invite the enemy's backup forces. It would be almost impossible to escape then.

There were originally twelve mobile soldiers in the squad, but due to the heavy fight, five had fallen, leaving only seven people.

"It's hopeless," Feng Yi said as he watched the five fallen Gun Riders. "Leave now if you don't want to go down with them." He knew the chances of survival for the five fallen men were slim. If any of them had slightly regained consciousness, they would have ejected from the cockpit instead of just lying there. If they continued to wait, when the enemy's support troop arrived, it would be too late.

One of them gasped in surprise when he heard Feng Yi's voice, "It's you."

All thirty men in the squad were startled when they heard the voice—it was Huang Zhennan, the Special Forces commander.

Huang Zhennan was the one who was shocked now: he hadn't expected the leader of this thirty-man platoon to be Feng Yi. Didn't that mean the formidable combat power of those Gun Riders was all due to Feng Yi's training? Huang Zhennan was a decisive person—after a brief moment of hesitation, he urged everyone to leave: "We need to leave immediately, hurry, hurry!"

After hearing that, the 37 mobile soldiers quickly stormed out of the Imperial campsite, pushing their running speed to the maximum. In the electronic map, 37 flashing red dots abruptly disappeared...

"Do you all have a good escape route?" asked Huang Zhennan, the commander of the Special Forces.

"Of course."

Feng Yi briefly explained the escape route. No plan was infallible—only relatively safe. To prevent the enemy's rear troops from finding their hiding point, they had carefully calculated their escape route beforehand and had surveyed the terrain. They would cross the Naga Riverbank and enter another jungle area to carry out a detour, and then the enemy would likely regard the area north of the Naga Riverbank as a key search target.
