Feng Yi had a knack for getting under people's skin, but he felt it was unnecessary to resort to such measures. Though this planet no longer had any semblance of law and order, people were not animals and he was not a butcher, hence he couldn't just act recklessly.
However, since they were so intent on putting him in harm's way, they had to pay a price. As the saying goes, if one is prepared to inflict harm, one should be ready to endure it as well. Bearing this adage in mind, Feng Yi was not the sort to quietly endure. Any damages he'd suffered mentally had to be compensated. Without compensation, he wouldn't recover.
Under the strain of the ongoing conflict, the woman had no choice but to comply. There was no way around him aside from accepting his steep demands. After all, you couldn't take money with you when you died, but you only had one life to live. Thus, she unwillingly agreed, "Fine, what kind of compensation do you want?"
"Money."
Feng Yi didn't have any other needs; he simply lacked funds. The fundamental factor in assembling a mecha was money. However, regarding the sources of this money, he had no qualms about taking it from those who probably had not obtained it through right means either.
When asked about the amount, Feng Yi was taken aback. He had initially anticipated that things would progress as he'd hoped, but had not considered how much he would need. His initial estimates had been drastically rushed.
The entire world probably did not have a single Mk-2 super-metal material melting hybrid mech. More specifically, just the outer armor filled with Mk-2 super-metal material alone required a substantial sum, not to mention the bio-nanomaterial camouflaged layer, the penetration-resistant alloy outer shell, the armored steel inner layer, the constant-temperature cushioning cotton lining, and the black hole insulation layer. The cost of all these was unimaginable.
In the end, Feng Yi offered a number that others might be able to accept. For those living in Stan City, 10,000 federal coins were no small sum.
"What?! Ten thousand? Where are we supposed to get such an amount?" The woman's face turned ashen. "Sir, can you... "
"Twenty thousand."
"Twenty thousand? We won't be able to find twenty thousand."
"Forty thousand."
"Four... forty thousand! Fine, forty thousand it is." The woman was bleeding internally. She regretted engaging in a senseless haggling and it dawned upon her that she wasn't bargaining in a marketplace but was instead negotiating for her life. She could only imagine the astronomical pricehe'd quote if she continued to try and haggle. She didn't doubt his audacity to demand eighty thousand next.
A few minutes later, a disheveled Jasmine was brought into the main hall. Her eyes were red and she was still confused about what was happening. The men in black had only told her to follow them. At least Jasmine knew why she hadn't been violated during this period but she feared that she would be sold soon. As a reporter, Jasmine had a general idea of what was happening to her.
However, the moment she took off her blindfold and saw the person in front of her, a familiar face, a voice said, "You're safe now."
"What? I..." Jasmine mumbled, her fear palpable. She was terrified at the thought of hallucinating until Feng Yi repeated himself for her to realize who was standing in front of her.
Feng Yi was always a hot topic in the Armored Infantry Division, and his fame had naturally reached Jasmine's ears. In order to find Feng Yi, Jasmine and her best friend had once sneaked into the squad to interview him. Though they didn't get to do the interview, they did manage to get a few pictures of him. Tears welled up in Jasmine's eyes because the man in front of her was indeed her own warrior.
"Oh no, I'm so scared," Jasmine threw herself into Feng Yi's arms, unable to contain her tears. The soldiers of the Armored Infantry Division were her only hope. She suddenly wanted to vent all of her grievances.
As Feng Yi looked at Jasmine, he seemed to see the unyielding spirit of his soldiers at the last moment and his departing superior laughing heartily. Each member of the Armored Infantry Division was admirable. Their lives protected Big Macs — him — and he would not allow any member of this battalion to be wronged by a bunch of thugs and villains.
Feng Yi gently patted Jasmine's shoulder, "Don't be afraid, tell me, who bullied you?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, the atmosphere in the room became chillingly cold. Corresponding to the clashing sound, the Grim Reaper seemed to suddenly appear in hand. Everyone present felt a chill in their hearts, maybe the next moment there would be the heavy sound of a sniper rifle.
Jasmine continued to sob, her sobs growing louder and louder until she finally shook her head and said in between sobs that no one had touched her, that she was given two meals a day.
"Let's go." After hearing this, Feng Yi put away his weapon.
The members of the Black Bear Organization finally breathed a sigh of relief. That kind of pressure was terrifying.
Back in the car, without wasting any more time, the old driver sped away from Stan City with a mix of joy...
As they traversed the tumultuous wilderness, everyone in the car was greatly curious about Feng Yi. As a hero of the Armored Infantry Division, despite Feng Yi being a low-ranking soldier, everyone in the vehicle knew of him.
When asked about the battlefield on the first line of defense, Feng Yi did converse quite a bit about the frontline situation at that time. Everyone listened attentively as if they were there. His insight and experience even impressed the chatterbox driver: "Well, heroes do come from youth." However, the driver looked troubled as he said, "However, food seems to be a problem once we leave Stan City. Why don't we gather enough food first?"
"I have food. Should be enough for a month or so."
It was only when Feng Yi took out the space crystal did everyone show astonishment. They wouldn't let the vehicle be seen in Stan City. Although he didn't have much food, avoiding the Saudi patrol routes might allow them to move along the coastline. The radar's detection range was much wider than the Hurricane Mecha's targeted scan, so there was no need to worry too much.
The current problem was accommodation as living in the car was obviously not feasible. There were hardly any caves on the nearby beach. Therefore, looking for caves did waste quite a bit of their time. Luckily, there was a ray of hope, the Iveco ran for two consecutive days, driven alternately by Feng Yi, the old driver and a young lad while two reporters handled the cooking duties. When they were free, they would turn on the video camera to record everything happening along the way.
This was not a casual trip, however, walking on Big Macs at this moment, Feng Yi's mood couldn't be described as terrible. If it weren't for the war, maybe this journey would have been a memorable life experience, right?
Captivated by the scenery along the way, Jasmine's mood had improved significantly. This bubbly girl couldn't help but sneak glances at Feng Yi or record his every move with her camera.
Feng Yi was bewildered by this. Nevertheless, each time he asked her, Jasmine would simply reply that she was interviewing a hero, leaving Feng Yi speechless.
