Inside the cave, Feng Yi was waiting quietly for the situation to change. He had lost his courage and had nothing left, which meant that if he left the cave now, he might be exposed to the detection devices of the Saudi hurricane mechas.
The hurricane mechas use a bio-wave sensing system for detection, with an effective range up to 2000 meters. So, Feng Yi had no choice but to rely on the natural coverage provided by the cave to shield himself from these threats as much as possible.
To avoid any accidents, he cautiously made his way further into the cave. The most likely creature to encounter deep within the cave was venomous snakes. Over the centuries, Big Macs had become densely populated with these creatures, effectively controlling the early proliferation of local rats.
Feng Yi remained very vigilant and even set up a small tent to take a brief rest, making sure everything was settled before deciding on the next course of action.
The cave was far from the main battlefield, and everything happening outside was beyond their senses. Even Eggy had a hard time intercepting information. Feng Yi slept for five hours. He was so exhausted that the first thing he asked about when he woke up was the situation around him as reported by Eggy. The news Eggy conveyed left Feng Yi dumbfounded.
After breaking through the three major enemy positions, our main force was strongly counterattacked by enemy troops. The situation did not look good; An A-level army group of the enemy was encircling and containing two of our armored infantry divisions by putting up a desperate fight. However, thanks to the high morale of our armored infantry and the efficient command of General Augustins, our forces, although much smaller in number, managed to bring the casualty ratio down to 0.8, an impressive accomplishment in itself.
Eventually, our troops disintegrated and the number of soldiers left unaccounted for could only be estimated to be around the size of a brigade fleeing the containment and going MIA.
What's more, General Augustins's status was unknown. In other words, he might have been captured by the Saudis. Unfortunately, that was all the information Eggy could gather.
Feng Yi couldn't believe that he had slept for a day, and suddenly everything had changed. He was planning to regroup with the auxiliary troops, but had never anticipated this tragic turn of events. In disbelief, he turned to look at Eggy perched on his shoulder. "Are you sure you're not joking with me about this?" he asked.
Eggy hopped right onto Feng Yi's messy hair, saying, "I'm just as shocked. Nowhere on this planet is safe anymore. So what should we do next?" The mini-dinosaur seemed naturally dazed, and in an instant, his image was completely ruined. "I'm not ready to die yet," it lamented. Then, it squeezed its eyes as if trying to cry but not a tear came out.
Feng Yi was caught between laughter and tears. "Well, of course we're gonna survive. As for how…," he stroked his chin, feigning deep thought, "I have no idea."
The previously stagnant battlefield had returned to its former tranquillity. Now, Feng Yi was essentially a wild man without an affiliation. The defeat of the main force meant that the Saudis would inevitably appear at the 7797 coordinates to clean up the battlefield aftermath, so upon leaving the cave, Feng Yi immediately ran as fast as he could in the opposite direction of the 7797 coordinate fortress...
In the middle of the battlefield, some abandoned mecha wreckage was still emitting thick black smoke, giving Feng Yi an idea of the intensity of the battles other troops had faced.
Not long after his trek, he spotted a Saudi team patrolling the battlefield from a distance.
Feng Yi opened his radar to scan the area and found seven enemy teams nearby. Now he was in real trouble. Without doing something, he'd appear on the hurricane mecha's scan in less than two minutes, prompting a curse under his breath.
Running away now certainly wasn't a wise move, as being spotted would inevitably lead to questioning. He wouldn't rely on the Saudis believing he was just a local refugee scavenging the battlefield for survival.
Feng Yi's attention was drawn to a muddy ditch nearby. Jumping in would be disastrous for the average person, but for him, it might be a safe haven. He quickly drew a military knife from his Space Crystal and rummaged through it for a chain. In an instant, he tossed the chain in a specific direction and, in the same motion, threw the military knife... Thunk! The knife accurately passed through the chain and struck a tree, making a loud sound. After ensuring its sturdiness, Feng Yi took a deep breath and jumped into the mud, using it to mask his bio-wave signals. If his calculations were correct, as long as he could hold his breath for five minutes, the hurricane mecha would pass him by and move more than 2000 meters away.
However, even without this, Feng Yi could jump out of the mud instantly under the pressure of his limbs, or use the Storm Stance to forcefully escape the quagmire. These were basic survival skills for Feng Yi, but doing so would cause more bio-wave magnetic fields to be sensed by the hurricane mecha.
The moment he hit the mud, he propelled himself into it to spread his body over the surface so that he would not sink too deep. It was a very uncomfortable feeling.
Squelch, squelch, squelch, squelch...
The slightly vibration coming from the mud indicated the hurricane mecha was getting closer. Then the sound began to fade. He managed to hold his breath for eight minutes in the mud. When he emerged, he was completely covered in mud, looking like a Black Ghost, but he didn't have time to hang around. He checked his radar and did his best to avoid the Saudi soldiers. If he couldn't avoid them, he would resort to playing dead on the spot.
Playing dead was a unique skill Feng Yi had developed while trying to survive on the Colonial Planet in his early days. First and foremost, his mind must be serene, which would slow his heartbeat to near cessation and keep his bio-magnetic field at a bare minimum.
