Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 222 Unattainable Contract_1

News of transport shuttles going missing wasn't unheard of, especially when space jumps to distant regions were involved. However, it was hard to accept such a ludicrous reason. With every day bringing an urgent need for new strategies against the enemy, he didn't want to be bothered distinguishing truth from fiction anymore. It seemed easier to just go through the motions. Augustins casually dismissed the issue with a wave of the hand, "Never mind, let's move on."

The casualty report had already been sent to Alpha via a dedicated line. This was arguably the biggest incident in years. In fact, much of the stress and suppressed emotions experienced by the troops during this period stemmed from the loss of their fellow soldiers.

Having finished their report, Kenneth and Amelia stepped out of the room together. As soon as they did, they both stopped in their tracks. Feng Yi had been standing there when they entered, and he was still standing there now, two hours later. Surely, he hadn't been ordered to stand sentry as punishment, had he?

"Good luck, buddy." Kenneth gently patted Feng Yi on the shoulder with a meaningful look before swiftly exiting the room.

Amelia looked at Feng Yi with a scrutinizing gaze, wondering what trouble he had gotten himself into to warrant standing there.

Her eyelashes fluttered unrestrained, her gaze as enchantingly radiant as a star, causing a flustered Feng Yi to fumble. He hastily pulled out the card she'd lent him, "Hey, here's your stuff."

"Are you done with it?"

"Uh, yes."

Upon hearing his response, Amelia casually turned her body in a thoughtful pose, considering whether or not to take the card back.

This added to Feng Yi's confusion. "I'm really puzzled, what on earth is going on in your head?"

She hummed for a moment, then said, "Sometimes, I don't even know what I'm thinking. But, are you just going to hand it to me without saying anything?"

"Yes, what else am I supposed to do?"

"Like, maybe saying thank you."

"I suppose it's natural when it comes from you; I'm not used to it -– but, thank you."

"Hehe, you're an interesting guy, I'm growing more and more fond of you." Amelia's lips curved up into a gentle smile, her face full of charm. Feng Yi was often unsure if she was messing with him or what her intentions were. She acted completely differently around him than she did in front of others. Maybe it was because she had dirt on him, allowing her to show her true nature in his presence. Perhaps that was the case.

Feng Yi looked deeply into Amelia's eyes, then shook his head...

"Why are you shaking your head?"

"I feel like I don't understand you."

A lot of people say so behind my back. Don't you think a mysterious girl is special?"

"Special?"

"Yes, it might spark more curiosity in people of the opposite sex."

Feng Yi forced a smile, "I feel more danger from you than curiosity. You're unpredictable, enigmatic. Let's not talk about this, my punishment time is up, I'm out of here."

"Instead of that, let's go for a walk, feel the breeze from Big Macs, we won't be able to see it tomorrow."

"I've already discussed it with General Augustins this morning, I won't be going back to Wind Thunder, so I will feel this breeze every day."

Upon hearing this, Amelia's face suddenly changed. Although she played it off well, her voice betrayed a hint of panic, "Why? You're a logistics staff member, you shouldn't be on the front line, especially since you're also a specially recruited student from Yingland."

There are no easy answers to these questions. Plans can never keep up with rapid changes. Feng Yi shook his head and ignored her question. Having come here, he had no intention of going back.

"Remember our contract?"

"Contract..."

"Yes." Amelia affirmed, "The promise you made to me, that you would go back to Yingland with me."

"Sorry, I can't change my mind about this. It goes against my principles."

"Why...why is it like this..." Amelia looked at Feng Yi with some bewilderment.... Even though she usually was capable and strong, there was a hint of fragility in her eyes. "Just this once, is that not possible?"

"I'm sorry." Feng Yi felt a little guilty.

He remembered the first time he met her, the silky smoothness of her skin, and he couldn't relate it with the pleading tone in her voice now. After all, everyone has a breaking point. At least, Feng Yi was now heavily armored and ready for anything that came his way.

Amelia turned away, her voice hauntingly soft, "You liar, you fooled me."

"I'm not a liar." Feng Yi felt the need to refute her accusation.

"You're still denying it, do you dare say there was no contract kiss? Since that kiss, have you noticed my feelings towards you?"

Feng Yi had three immediate reactions to her question.

Option one: Yes, he could seize the opportunity and become a winner in life.

Option two: No, maintain the status quo and continue this unclear relationship.

Option three: Leave, sever ties completely.

He finally chose the middle ground, "The contract is the contract, there's no need to connect these two things. Besides, we don't seem to have such a foundation."

"No, you broke the contract."

"I didn't back out, you were forcing it on me. Besides, if it's a contract, it can be broken right?"

"Are you someone who enjoys breaking promises?"

"I'm someone who has grown and matured."

Upon hearing this, Amelia started shaking. She peeked over her shoulder at him, her eyes filled with resentment. "Feng Yi, you... you knew who I was from the beginning, didn't you?" She quickly averted her gaze.

Xiao Ai, the girl with a radiant smile from his past that he didn't want to remember, was as identical to Amelia as could be. Lingering thoughts of their shared memories flooded his mind. From her delicate features, her ice-cold intellect, to her hair as pure white as falling snow.

Rather than knowing, he was reluctant to dwell on it. Some things, once dead, are thoroughly over. People should look to the future, bearing the heavy burdens of their past to force themselves to move forward. As the saying goes, let the bygones be bygones. Half-turned, Feng Yi pondered for a moment, before answering, "I really didn't think about it."

"So it is..." Amelia's voice turned soft. She turned her back to him, crossing her arms as she let out a determined sigh, seeming to have made up her mind about something. All of a sudden, she turned and faced him, "Hey... " Her foot gently tapped the floor, her face blazing red, her watery eyes avoiding Feng Yi's, "What kind of girl do you like, Feng?"

Before she could finish, Feng Yi stumbled, and almost fell. Even the usually stoic Sir Feng was taken aback, receiving a critical hit by her unexpected words. He covered his nose and coughed, "Well, everyone loves beauty. We live in a time where appearances matter a lot."

"Hehe, seems like it worked." Amelia giggled, "Are you really okay with any pretty girl?"

"Well... I am a man of principles." Feng Yi felt on the brink of falling into her trap. Amelia's sudden shift to acting cute was too swift, catching him completely off guard. The aura she was emitting was diametrically opposite to her normally dominant demeanor.

"Don't change the subject, I can act as any type of girl you like."
