Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 218: Start Running_1

Feng Yi got a perfect score, but the unfortunate thing was that he lost his close combat weapons. The Gun Rider was a type of agile single soldier mecha, and its ranged firepower wasn't very effective against the Saudi heavily armored land mechas. Only by targeting their weaknesses could it achieve any effect.

Under the cover of heavy gunfire, the smoke and dust shot up to the sky, while the battlefield reflected the light from every sand dune. After a round of combat, the Federal Army had lost 35 mechas. On the other hand, the Saudis, including those who were felled by Feng Yi's skewering technique, had only lost 11 heavily armored land mechas in total. Their loss was like a drop in the bucket.

The disparity in power was too great. One-tenth of their roughly hundred-men force had fallen in an instant. They had no chance of victory. If the battle went on, complete annihilation would only be a matter of time.

The roar of a Non-commissioned officer came from the communicator: "Gun Rider, you better run. With our mobility, it's going to be hard to escape."

"No, I'm going to try and divert the enemy. You guys scatter. Within three hours, we meet at the 9344 coordinate point; it won't be easy for the heavy Saudi mechas to catch up with you."

"How do you intend to lure them away?"

"I have my ways, just go."

In fact, Feng Yi was not sure about the 9344 coordinate point's terrains. He had randomly chosen it on his electronic map. He didn't think the Saudi armored unit would pursue relentlessly. The longer the line gets drawn, the bigger the chance for them to give up the chase.

What Feng Yi did puzzled the Federal soldiers. Was he crazy? With the Gun Rider's small defense power, wouldn't he be perforated in seconds?

"Quick, scatter out, what are you waiting for?" Before he could finish his words, the Gun Rider had already burst into action. He controlled the mecha to speed directly towards the Saudi flank, and his average speed reached 200 cards, a level which only advanced drivers could reach.

Of course, the Saudis weren't foolish enough to take the bait. They sent a squad to chase the Gun Rider while the rest of the forces continued to suppress the remnants of the Federal Army.

Boom! Boom! Two shells exploded not far from the Gun Rider, causing a rain of sand and stones. The cockpit of the mecha shook violently…

Despite the pressure, the Gun Rider seemed unaffected. He brandished his laser gun and fired continuously. With each flash of white light from the muzzle followed by a 'zzz' sound, he successfully hit the unprotected leg joints of the heavy mechas. Sparks flew, and the massive bodies of the mechas fell helplessly to the ground.

The fight was over in the blink of an eye. Within less than a minute, all eleven soldiers of the squad were totally defeated. Although he didn't manage to destroy their engines, the fallen mechas were no longer a threat.

The Federal soldiers hesitated slightly. They had intended to stand their ground and not leave the Gun Rider behind. But in a short while, they saw the Gun Rider prancing around like a flea, fighting energetically. He had even taken out all the enemies.

The soldiers were overjoyed. The Gun Rider's combat proficiency was undoubtedly that of a master level.

In fact, acting upon the Gun Rider's suggestion to scatter wasn't a bad idea, but the Federal soldiers felt that fleeing would be somewhat cowardly. They were known to die standing instead of fleeing. However, if it's possible to retreat safely, they'd certainly not prefer death: "Sir, I have an old mother and a roomful of children and grandchildren back home. Should we consider trusting the Gun Rider this time?"

"We can only wish him luck now. Brothers, scatter."

The Saudi heavy armored unit continued their pursuit, only to find the Federal Army's three units had suddenly split into nine. After a while, they had divided into twenty-seven, finally splitting into one-man units and spread out in a fan shape…

Armies emphasize collective teamwork. Without that, they are nothing. This scene left everyone dumbfounded. The Federal soldiers fled as though they were naked women running with desperately covered privates. What the hell was happening?

Plus, there was a cockroach- Gun Rider, jumping here and there. The unified mecha unit suddenly lost their direction.

The Gun Rider's firing was very accurate. Even the heavily armored mechas couldn't withstand the continuous attacks on their limbs.

Their firepower was basically ineffective against it. Either it would block it with the Light Shield, or it would dodge it based on prediction. The Light Shield could be fully recharged before the next round of bombardment.

On one side, there was a monkey causing disturbances, and on the other, the tail-tucked units were running away…

Dammit! A colonel gave the order: "Chase."

"Sir, who do we chase?"

Who to chase? That was a question. Gradually, the Federal Army expanded and scattered. As a commanding officer, choosing targets to chase in this situation was the most difficult decision: whether it's a trap or a piece of meat, the opponent had the opportunity to communicate with the main forces within the effective range, they could not grasp the enemy's dynamics. Any wrong command on the ever-changing battlefield could potentially put the unit in a catastrophe.

The colonel's face turned iron-blue. He gritted his teeth, and after a moment of silence, he said, "Chase the Gun Rider."

A moment later, all the gun barrels of the heavy armored unit were aimed at the Gun Rider. Feng Yi felt his pressure growing instantly and couldn't respond leisurely anymore. He controlled the mecha to retreat quickly…

Dashing through the concentrated storm of shells, the Gun Rider, like a nimble cheetah, skillfully evaded every attack. He dodged wherever he could and used his laser gun to shoot down the shells coming straight at him. If that was not possible, he had to raise the Light Shield to block it. It was a race against speed and time. The Light Shield's color turned from green to light yellow…until it turned to deep yellow, then orange, and then red. Alarms started wailing in the mecha.

Energy remaining at 26%, recharging…Energy at 20%, 7%, 1%, Warning!

As the protective shield's strength dropped rapidly, it seemed like Death itself was closing in. Then, with an explosion, the final curtain had drawn….

The Saudi heavy armored unit finally slowed down. That damn flea had fallen. He was only one man, but he single-handedly incapacitated dozens of heavy mechas. His extraordinary driving technique had to be commended. However, at the end of the day, the Gun Rider was just a regular mecha. Even if the driver was an ace dressed in white, the outcome would be the same.

A sneer appeared at the corner of the Saudi colonel's mouth: Has the Federation fallen this low now? They had foolishly allowed a driver with such extraordinary combat ability to operate a mere Gun Rider.

Suddenly, the fallen mecha sprang up from the ground. Its Light Shield turned green again. Caught off guard, by the time the soldiers reacted, the Gun Rider had already moved a kilometer away.

Didn't that guy explode? Why is he still alive? The only explanation that the Saudi soldiers could come up with was that the shell had missed. The Gun Rider must have fallen intentionally during the explosion. Combining the dim light, no one had expected him to play a trick to delay the soldiers.
