Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 1066: Inner Desire 2 - Part 2

After all, the opponent was a super warrior in white—a near-ultimate existence just one step away from becoming a top-tier fighter. Facing someone like this, no matter how experienced Zhang Xiaobo was in battle, how explosive his power could be, defeat was inevitable. Losing wasn't the real issue—the real danger was that a single misstep could cost him his life.

Grasping onto the notion of "survive at all costs, even if it's just scraping by," Zhang Xiaobo gave himself plenty of psychological pep talks, readying himself to play the role of a convincing actor.

To his surprise, Feng Yi arrived just in time to save the day. Who knew, right then and there, Revenge Shadow Rider descended from the skies to rescue him and diffuse the situation.

Faced with Vladimir's challenge, Revenge Shadow Rider expressed his desire to fight, though whether Vladimir would agree remained uncertain.

One could imagine Vladimir's feelings at that moment—his face likely turned green. While many believed the legends about Revenge Shadow Rider were just exaggerated tales, no top-tier fighter would be foolish enough to ignore the rumors. On the contrary, smart individuals would often go out of their way to research any information about him.

But the more you truly delved into Revenge Shadow Rider, the more you realized: the deeper you understood him, the less sense he made.

He was like a bug—an avenging warrior cloaked in a halo of comeback glory. His Flame Dual Slash was unmatched across the globe. Even someone of Kexiao's caliber wouldn't dare boast about facing him head-on within the sweeping range of that attack.

From battle after battle, it became clear that Kexiao could handle any opponent with fluid adaptability and precision, making his opponents resemble dancing monkeys. Yet facing Revenge Shadow Rider, he always maintained a safe distance, taking on the demeanor of the monkey himself. In the moment Revenge Shadow Rider launched an attack, Kexiao would often choose avoidance, blocking, jumping back, and tactical restraint, rather than engaging directly.

Even Kexiao, equipped with Sword Dragon-grade gear, didn't dare face him head-on! As for someone of the same super warrior class, Jiu Ling—whose talent far exceeded Kexiao's—even this formidable fighter couldn't defend against a handful of Revenge Shadow Rider's moves during direct combat. Nobody expected that, as Jiu Ling called out for a Federation warrior to duel, the elusive Revenge Shadow Rider would inexplicably show up to challenge him instead.

Even Hell's Gate couldn't have anticipated someone like him appearing. Admittedly, Revenge Shadow Rider might have been purely drawn by the challenge, but Hell's Gate viewed the situation far differently: life definitely outweighed saving face in this case.

The Military Department immediately ordered Vladimir to abandon the fight and unconditionally reject the challenge, citing numerous reasons.

To understand the gravity here: Revenge Shadow Rider's threat extended far beyond the FCA Alliance. No matter the faction, any super warrior—whether alone, paired up, or in a trio—was allowed, at any moment, to abandon a mission and retreat when encountering Revenge Shadow Rider. After all, the value of a super warrior clearly outweighed most mission objectives.

Vladimir certainly wanted to back out, but he couldn't—it was too late. Water spilled could never be scooped back; the Military Department always prioritized broader strategies and interests. But had they ever considered Vladimir's dignity?

Because he had spoken his mind earlier, Vladimir's position boxed him into a corner where he had no choice but to grit his teeth and accept the challenge.

In an instant, the dynamics between the Federation and Hell's Gate shifted completely.

Moments ago, our warriors were on edge over Zhang Xiaobo's predicament, uncertain whether they should engage in battle. If they fought, it would undoubtedly be a meaningless defeat—one likely ending with tragedy, possibly even death.

But not fighting? That would ruin reputations the moment this spread. Sure, there might have been some bullying on Vladimir's part, but Tian Ying and the others were executing critical missions, making them unavailable at the time.

Who could have imagined the tables turning so dramatically in mere moments? Suddenly, the thorny issue had shifted entirely, landing squarely in Hell's Gate's lap.

Mirami was completely panicked. She knew the horror of Revenge Shadow Rider all too well—in fact, she often reviewed his past battles. These weren't obscure secrets; they had even been compiled into textbooks. But Revenge Shadow Rider always exceeded what had been written in the textbooks.

Upon hearing the news, Mirami was overcome with regret and helplessness. She scrambled to find a way into the battlefield, desperate to stop the fight from occurring.

The battle played out as she expected. Revenge Shadow Rider initially refrained from unleashing overwhelming suppression on Vladimir. Instead, his efforts were more about exerting pressure, drawing out counterattacks from his opponent, and pushing them to their limits.

But that's Revenge Shadow Rider we're discussing here—the world's finest in ranged shooting, close combat, and everything in between. Simply put, once Revenge Shadow Rider initiated his strikes, nobody else had a chance to intervene.

When battling Revenge Shadow Rider, the one rule was to avoid clashing offensively at all costs. Forget about him—Hugo, who was a level lower and still in his Red Cloak stage, had berserker attributes matching Revenge Shadow Rider's. Even Hugo's brother wouldn't dare face him outright.

And yet Hugo's brother audaciously chose to compete with this guy in technique—a stance even Kexiao wouldn't dare claim.

Mirami vividly recalled Roland's warning back then. If Kexiao wasn't unbeatable, he was at least manageable. But Revenge Shadow Rider? There was no possibility of survival if one entered his Flame Dual Slash range—even Mirami herself would be instantly annihilated.

It was rare for Roland to admit there was something he could do nothing about, and Mirami felt completely hopeless hearing it.

But Roland's level? Mirami didn't actually know how skilled Roland was in mecha battles. Yet even the combined forces of herself, Vladimir, and the four Heavenly Kings couldn't defeat Roland. No matter how the fight unfolded, Roland and his "55% win rate" remained a wall they could never overcome.

And yet, even Roland had said this: in a life-or-death battle, he would absolutely avoid Revenge Shadow Rider's sweeping range, or he too would be instantly killed. So what chance did Vladimir stand?

Back then, Mirami was utterly desperate. No matter how much she begged the FCA Alliance's Rekart to open a pathway, it was useless.

She had no way to stop this battle from happening. Crying and screaming, she pleaded to halt the meaningless fight.

In the end, it was Roland again. Roland asked her if she wasn't afraid to die—he warned that barging directly into the arena could present enormous danger.

Mirami replied bluntly, saying she wasn't afraid.

With a smile, Roland nodded to her, and moments later—by some unexplained means—she was suddenly teleported to the edge of the arena. When she turned back, Roland had vanished entirely, leaving no trace. She couldn't even tell how she had entered.

By that point, Mirami didn't have any attention left to consider these details. Her singular focus was on stopping the fight.

Determined, Mirami started to run—rushing toward the two battling fighters, her frail figure charging into the war zone.

The sudden shift brought the arena to life with gasps and murmurs…some accused Rekart, others felt compassion, some sighed endlessly, and others were thrilled to see chaos—reactions covered the entire spectrum.

Everyone understood that the moment Mirami approached the two fighters, she risked being crushed into pulp by a mecha or being fatally injured by the shockwaves, dying instantly. The odds of survival were almost zero, as the shockwaves didn't merely disorient—they tore through flesh, penetrated deep into bodies, and even the brain...

It was a fate no one wanted to witness. She was only a 20-year-old young woman—beautiful, with the brightest future ahead, yet all of it seemed poised to end in her reckless choice to intervene, her life extinguished in a moment.

Mirami was admired by many warriors—she was gentle, radiant, and charming. How could Hell's Gate's soldiers possibly bear seeing this unfold? They erupted into chaos.

But life often delivers exactly what we dread most. As fate seemed preordained, Vladimir's counterstrike failed to land on Revenge Shadow Rider, instead barreling directly toward Mirami.

Mirami didn't have exceptional combat skills—there was no way she could evade the incoming Blazing Revolver shot. Even if, by some miracle, she managed to dodge, the shockwave alone would kill her instantly. Survival was virtually impossible; the shockwave wasn't just raw force—it carried countless fragments that would tear through her skin, penetrate her body, and possibly damage her brain...

What no one expected was Revenge Shadow Rider, under countless watchful eyes, demonstrating his world-famous marksmanship. He raised his weapon, fired a single shot—and the entire world held its breath.
