Chapter 1063: Changes Along the Way

It seems that group of people has already gone far. Based on the vibrations from the ground, Sky Shadow can roughly deduce the location of the Death Sandworm.

He must locate the sandworm quickly and eliminate it. This creature is a complete variable—it could very well destroy the Time-Space Transfer Device. Furthermore, the device cannot be positioned too close to the 'bizarre' magnetic field. If the distance is too short, it will experience severe interference, making flight exceedingly difficult. Parking the Time-Space Transfer Device here was a compromise born of necessity.

With this realization, Sky Shadow suddenly ascended to the void, attempting to scan his surroundings through the life detection device…

The results were disappointing. As expected, even at this distance, the life detection device was affected by the unknown magnetic field of 'bizarre,' making it unable to precisely pinpoint the sandworm's exact location. He could only rely on ground vibrations and his own experience to make assessments.

According to Sky Shadow's expertise, the sandworm is likely located within a radius of no more than five kilometers. If it were any further, the vibrations wouldn't have been so intense. It appears he'll have to attempt that method now.

Sky Shadow immediately took out the fresh meat he had prepared earlier, dropped it from the air, closed his eyes, and waited patiently for the sandworm to appear.

The sandworm's sense of smell turned out to be as sensitive as legends claimed. Within just a few breaths, the scent of the meat seemed to reach the creature. The calm earth began to tremble—vibrations surged incessantly…

In the next instant, an oval-shaped monster suddenly burst out of the ground, opening a bloody maw and devouring the bait with astonishing speed.

Its appearance matched the records perfectly: the sandworm's physical structure resembled a giant earthworm, magnified countless times over. The interior of its mouth was lined with jagged teeth, and it was said to be capable of spraying venom and releasing high-voltage electricity—enough to instantly stun or kill other creatures. Sky Shadow didn't have the time to verify the truth of these claims.

At the moment, his combat strength was maintained at an average level of about 300,000. Even with 300,000 combat capability, dealing with a single sandworm might still be challenging. However, combat has always been about striking the weak points with fatal precision. While 300,000 might not suffice for a one-hit kill or even fully penetrating its outer armor, Sky Shadow had to conserve his energy and minimize expenditure, preparing for the battles yet to come.

With these thoughts swirling in his mind, Sky Shadow gradually condensed a white energy wave in his palm, carefully observing the changes on the ground.

At the moment the sandworm opened its bloody maw and swallowed the bait, Sky Shadow unleashed the energy wave. The wave struck directly into the Death Sandworm's mouth… The gargantuan body of the sandworm suddenly swelled as the energy from the wave intensely dispersed.

The energy erupted instantaneously within the creature, forming dazzling beams of light that tore through its body from the inside out.

And yet, the sandworm did not die. The size of this monster was simply too massive—so massive that the energy wave only managed to destroy a part of its body. Moreover, the sandworm's external skin was highly resilient, causing the seemingly severed creature to remain connected by flesh and muscle, continuing to squirm on the ground relentlessly, splattering nauseating green fluid.

"What a troublesome beast," he muttered.

Sky Shadow grumbled under his breath. It had to be said—even a small shuttlecraft could be vaporized in an instant with the energy wave he just used, yet the damage to the sandworm was modest at best. While this was partly due to the sandworm's disproportionate body structure, there was no denying that its biological resilience surpassed steel's ability to withstand light-based attacks.

But if one strike proved insufficient, it's always possible to deliver a second, a third, or even more successive attacks. This strategy, focusing on controlled expenditures of energy, was far more tolerable than pushing his combat strength immediately to higher levels.

With this mindset, Sky Shadow unleashed a second, then a third attack. With energy waves repeatedly penetrating the sandworm's skin and wounds, the sandworm finally ceased its struggling…

Pop!

Sky Shadow landed on the ground, stepping cautiously toward the corpse erupting green liquid, intending to confirm whether the sandworm was truly dead.

But just as his feet touched the ground, he sensed vibrations still emanating from it. Sky Shadow's brows tightened instantly!

There were more sandworms in the vicinity. One such creature was already a calamity, and he hadn't anticipated that a species which typically lurks in the uninhabited depths of the desert wilderness would have so many individuals concentrated here. Clearing them out would be no easy task; he had underestimated the seriousness of the problem.

Thankfully, the amount of bait he'd prepared wasn't limited to just the initial batch. However, this would inevitably cost him more time. Sky Shadow promptly took out the wireless communication device and dialed Blade Warrior on Heavenly Communication, informing everyone that the area harbored more than one sandworm—perhaps two, perhaps even more. To ensure absolute safety, he might need to slow down his progress, and that was the situation.

Before Blade Warrior could respond, he abruptly ended the call.

The portly man inside the shuttlecraft expressed visible frustration. Sky Shadow, after all, was the strongest combat operative aside from Roland. Without his support, it was as if they were missing a limb—who would dare advance under such conditions? Maybe waiting for him wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Zhang Xiaobo offered his personal suggestion. Under normal circumstances, no one would refute it—as his reasoning was sound. The problem was that they had sensed Feng Yi's aura at a distant location. That discovery drove the team's urgency to investigate the phenomenon, to determine whether the source was Feng Yi himself, something 'bizarre,' or some other mysterious anomaly.

Roland, Sky Shadow, and Mengdie unanimously agreed that the person who emitted the aura was undoubtedly Feng Yi. Yet Feng Yi had died a year ago, which only deepened their urgency to uncover the truth.

"We should wait for Sky Shadow. There's no need to rush this."
