Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 930: The Stargate

"Kevin, Kevin, where are you..."

"Kevin, Kevin, where are you..."

Xixi walked forward like a zombie, step by step... Kevin himself was somewhat undecided, involuntarily stepping aside. How he wished this were some cruel prank by Xixi.

Yet, Xixi simply walked straight towards the wall without dodging and, in the next second, the scene that unfolded almost made Kevin collapse on spot. Yes, Xixi didn't hit the wall. Instead, her body seemingly became transparent and passed right through it, with half of her body ending up embedded in the wall... Her lifeless face kept repeating, "Kevin, Kevin, you!@#¥%..."

It was as if the wall interfered with the sound, and eventually even Kevin could not understand what Xixi was saying!

The overwhelming shock ended up snapping Kevin back to reality—no, this was not an illusion. The battleship itself must have encountered some kind of phenomenon unexplainable by current physics.

After a moment of thought, Kevin quickly pulled out numerous tools from the Space Crystal and desperately tried to make sense of the wall that Xixi was stuck in. Apart from slight damage to the hard wall, there was no effect whatsoever, yet Xixi's body could easily sink into it. This suggested that what he was seeing might just be a phenomenon.

To confirm his speculation, Kevin cautiously placed his light transmitter in Xixi's hand and then turned it on, only to find that there was no reaction. From this, he deduced two possibilities.

The first possibility: The space inside had completely isolated the external magnetic field.

The second possibility: The Xixi in front of his eyes might just be some kind of phenomenon, an unexplainable projection. This thought somewhat lessened the heaviness in Kevin's heart, "I'm sorry, Xixi. I don't know if this is really you, but I must move on. If I can't find the real you, I think I will come back to keep you company."

With that heavy thought in mind, Kevin, after briefly collecting his thoughts, continued alone through another doorway...

The reason for entering another door rather than turning back was because the door he had previously opened had utterly vanished from his sight. Kevin could only move forward. As he stepped towards the next door, his steps involuntarily paused, and he gave Xixi one last look before stepping through without any hesitation.

In an instant, the azure starry sky inexplicably appeared before his eyes, vast and endless... The falling meteors and the glittering lights could no longer be summed up in words, mysterious and beautiful, everything in view was like the cradle of a dreamlike fairy tale. Unfortunately, this wasn't his universe, for Kevin did not see the familiar Big Dipper, nor any of the stars he knew.

He found himself floating above the starry sky, looking ahead at the white portals towering into the void, with no end in sight. The doors, embellished by the starry sky, did not give off a false sense of reality.

Naturally, the fantastical scenery couldn't give Kevin any positive psychological cues, with survival being his first concern in the vacuum of space. Kevin quickly put on his oxygen device before passing out, narrowly cheating death.

Next was the temperature difference. The protective suit isolated him effectively, not causing any discomfort. Apart from these two issues, he could distinctly feel his body floating in the vacuum, capable of difficult movement, unlike being suspended in Four-dimensional Space at the whim of gravity. As his consciousness pulled, Kevin felt as if he was grabbing a lifeline, dragging invisible space and slowly moving forward.

His reason warned him, he shouldn't continue on. If he ventured further, he would not be able to turn back, unable to return to the real world—yet human curiosity impelled him to keep going.

The mysterious fork in the road made Kevin hesitate for a long time... Should he continue opening another unknown door, or should he turn back? What level of civilization had left behind these remnants, and to what place did this bizarre space belong? Questions upon questions flooded Kevin's not-so-calm mind.

And lest his curiosity cause further delay, the various marvels occurring around him seemed to have already far exceeded the exploration mission itself. This had to be reported! Kevin's last shred of rationality triumphed over human nature. He wanted to rescue Xixi, and he wanted to continue exploring, but first, he had to report everything to the authorities as accurately as possible.

With trepidation, Kevin forcefully pressed the light transmitter...

The starry sky remained as beautiful and serene as if nothing had happened, and Kevin's body did not perceive the quantum effects caused by the light transmission, which meant that this star gate and the external space might not even exist in the same spacetime.

"Damn it, what the hell is this..."

Kevin cursed under his breath and then set off, moving forward with difficulty in a manner similar to the breaststroke, and soon after, he finally approached another light gate.

The tangible touch of the light gate made Kevin realize something; he was very certain that the material of the light gate was exactly the same as the previous two black doors. But this time, all he had to do was gently push, and the door opened effortlessly.

It turned out there was a knack to pushing this door; the angle had to go from inside to outside, from top to bottom, from direct to oblique. Kevin suddenly understood as if the simple logic could be seen with a single glance, but why had no one thought of this before? And why could he move freely in the vast vacuum, unaffected by gravity? What phenomenon was happening to Xixi?

His brain buzzed. He was in the Four-dimensional Space! Realizing the possible scenario, Kevin looked down in disbelief and stared at his hands. His sharp gaze seemed to penetrate all barriers, seeing clearly his bones and the flow of his blood, and his heart beating, endlessly pumping blood for his body.

The reason he could move freely in the vast vacuum depended not on some wondrous artifact left by predecessors but purely on himself being in the Fourth-dimensional Space, moving through a plane that did not exist in ordinary space. The matter here was much richer than that in the third-dimensional space we inhabit.

In other words, he was a three-dimensional being in Four-dimensional Space. Perhaps, the destinations linked by these interstellar doors represented all unknown possibilities.

The sight now within the door was no longer chaotic darkness but an unknown vista, a sight he couldn't clearly make out, obscured because of the darkness within. However, he still easily discerned everything inside, far more vividly than anything seen in human space.

The shape of that ancient wall was clearly not flat, with the faint light being divided into countless distinct, sparkling colors.

Perhaps, these twinkling doors in the void did not exist in the third dimension at all, or even if they did, the distance was too far for humans to trace. However, everything could be realized on this plane. After a moment's hesitation, Kevin strode decisively through the doorway.
