Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 922: The Approach of Winter

Far away in the Solar System's Earth Region, the Eden President's Office bustled with constant streams of people coming and going... enjoying afternoon tea was always a beautiful and peaceful time.

The main melody of the Capital Planet was busyness; skillfully squeezing leisure into a hectic schedule had long become second nature to its inhabitants, even President Adams had his moments of slacking off.

Recently, he had received two sets of special reports: the identity of Revenant No.3 and the investigation into the mysterious space fortress V583.

The first report, pushed by Sky Shadow, cast doubt on the identity of Revenant No.3 and pointed out that Saudi might have a secret human body modification project, hoping for a thorough investigation of this matter. Of course, Sky Shadow also presented some evidence he had found recently.

Adams glanced at the report and then immediately tossed the issue over to the Central Intelligence Bureau.

Wow! The problem had landed on him, but this wasn't his responsibility; it was a matter for espionage work. The normal procedure was espionage first, then diplomacy. How could Sky Shadow get this backward? Indeed, he was even more reckless than Feng Yi.

Of course, for the time being, Greedy Wolf couldn't intervene, ostensibly because it was family territory.

As a result, Sky Shadow's report was quickly forgotten, sinking to the bottom like a stone dropped into water.

As for the second report, it pertained to the investigation of the space ruins in the V583 asteroid belt. Regrettably, there hadn't been any additional progress. After several days of searching, the federal and Saudi exploration teams had encountered an unavoidable outcome; the entrance they found was merely the surface of a strange warship, with no way to penetrate deeper, at least not with the capabilities and equipment of the federal secret exploration team.

Besides sensing special energy fluctuations on the exterior of the ship, the team without any progress finally returned empty-handed.

Only a few high-ranking officers and individuals bound by confidentiality agreements were aware of this incident.

As the federal and Saudi sides were at a loss, unfortunate news came one after another: the explorers died successively after several days, and the cause of death remained unclear, though it was surmised to be related to radiation from the warship.

Naturally, when God closes a door, he invariably opens a window. Of the two investigative teams, six people were miraculously spared, which, to some extent, was a lucky misfortune. These six included five Saudi officers and Federal Major Anthony.

They shared a common characteristic: without exception, they were all New Humans.

In other words, perhaps only those who had reached the genetic mutation stage, the so-called New Human standards, could avoid death.

In less than three days, the lab results had already validated the previous speculation: the mysterious magnetic storms would damage the human cell structure, but New Human layerTwo cells could resist the magnetic storms effectively up to 80%.

The casualties were all individuals with physical constitutions similar to that of the average person; that is, their cells had not evolved to the layerTwo stage and could not effectively protect against the mysterious magnetic storm's destruction. This was the primary cause of death.

Humanity's understanding of the unknown remained too superficial; radiation was not merely what we understood it to be. Although the remaining six investigators were still alive, the condition of the two Saudi officers remained bleak, casting a chill of an impending cold winter over the once-spirited two nations.

The silence of the hospital ward was pierced by the crisp sound of high heels, "Mr. Anthony, hello."

A woman in her thirties, with a beautiful appearance and emerald green eyes like jade, walked into the isolation zone of the hospital ward, her face carrying a gentle smile, radiating a mature charm and being quite amiable.

"May I ask who you are...?"

"Excuse the sudden intrusion, I hope you'll forgive me. I am Lola Kay Stewart, captain of the Special Action Team. You can call me Lola."

"Hello, Miss Lola, please take a seat," said Major Anthony, preparing to get up.

"No need for formalities, sir. I just want to understand more about your condition." As she spoke, Lola casually placed a bunch of fresh flowers on the edge of the bed and, without ceremony, sat down on a nearby chair, asking, "During this time, Mr. Anthony, have you felt any abnormalities in your health?"

Anthony pondered for a moment, "Aside from a burning pain, I haven't felt any other discomfort."

Lola swiftly took notes of Anthony's condition with her pen, talking to herself as she wrote, "Have you experienced anything like dizziness, numbness in your body, visual or auditory hallucinations, or..." Lola paused, "or itchiness in certain areas, for instance, down there?"

Lola's voice carried a gentlemanly tease, creating a relaxed atmosphere that facilitated easier communication between them.

Anthony became mildly animated by Lola's line of questioning, "Would you keep a secret for me? Of course, as this pertains to official matters, I will answer truthfully."

"Of course."

Anthony said, "Besides the pain, I've been feeling more sleepy than usual, found my desires increasing—perhaps an intriguing topic might help me stay more alert."

Lola raised an eyebrow subtly, "Hehe, that's just a normal physiological reaction. It seems you have a lot of energy, sir. If there's nothing else, I'll look forward to our next conversation."

"You're leaving now?"

"Yes, I must submit my report as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation." Lola gathered her notes, already heading out as she spoke, "Goodbye, then, and may you have a pleasant dream."

Anthony shook his head slightly in disappointment, wishing Lola were a lady of chivalry. As he listened to her footsteps fading away, he closed his eyes once more.

The federal Black Science Base soon received the feedback report from Lola; Anthony's physical condition was almost identical to those on the Saudi side, all experiencing a burning sensation, indicating that the cells had sustained a certain degree of damage but were still within normal limits.
