Relative to other options, the price of a Boqi was naturally not going to be cheap, resulting in a rarity of Boqi appearances within lower-rank bounty hunter teams. The starting price for a Boqi was often tens of thousands of G coins, which converted to Federal Coins amounted to several dozen bills. For the average bounty hunter in a low-level exploration organization, this was a substantial expense.
Of course, if you were successful in owning a Boqi, the two 40mm caliber anti-tank gun launchers attached to it would naturally become yours as well. Including the cost of ammunition replenishment and equipment modifications, the price could even increase from the original amount.
From Eggy's recounting, Feng Yi learned that after receiving their bounty reward, Xiu Yi and the others didn't squander their money. Instead, they saved up their bounty to purchase a Boqi named Big Yellow.
In this vibrant exploration team, Big Yellow grew alongside the squad and had now risen to the rank of a Rank 3 bounty hunting dog. This three-year-old Big Yellow already had rich combat experience and robust fighting ability, its bite force incredibly astonishing. With the squad members' careful attention to Big Yellow and their dream team's rotations across various star domains, they quickly became well-known.
Initially, relying on Xiu Yi and their individual credits, they were unable to exchange for mobile warrior equipment at the Bounty Tribe. But now, almost everyone in the team had one, except for Xixi. As medical personnel, Xixi wasn't skilled in piloting, so she often sat inside Xiu Yi's mecha.
During this period, Kevin repeatedly requested Xixi to ride in his mecha—supposedly to "change things up." After all, a person can't always stay in one place; staying too long can dull even an vivacious and sensible girl like Xixi. Kevin's invitation, however, did not get Xiu Yi's approval, firmly convinced that the young scoundrel was just trying to hit on his sister.
Regarding their mechas' origins, some were excavated, like the time on Bull Planet when Xiu Yi inadvertently struck a light cable while digging for a mecha.
Besides that one, the origins of the other two mechas were rather unusual. One was seized from criminals. As bounty hunters, the group would squat out an area for a day. After several days of continuous stakeouts, they successfully captured a Rank 3 fugitive who had fled to a remote planet.
The last one was gifted to the squad by local villagers after they resolved a long-rampant fierce beast problem. The villagers raised funds as a token of gratitude, and it was also a gesture from their hearts.
In this journey of growth, Xiu Yi's interest in mecha battles gradually waned. He came to understand the hardships of a traveler's life—living day-to-day without a stable tomorrow. In many battles, everyone had their lives hanging by a thread.
Because of this reason, Xiu Yi came to admire Feng Yi even more. As the team leader, the four of them struggled for harmony in battle, let alone Brother Feng, who could lead thousands of troops.
In one battle, the team even encountered a nearly Red Robe Level fugitive pilot active within the no-law star domain of Potan on a certain planet. If not for the Boqi's anti-tank guns acting in the nick of time, Xiu Yi would have nearly met an untimely end.
If Xiu Yi had died, it could be said that the team, without him, would not have been a threat to that pilot known as Red Ghost of Orleans. Let it be known, flesh and blood cannot contend with a mobile warrior, at least not at Red Ghost Sister's current level of combat skills. She was still far from the level where one could directly confront a mecha with physical strength alone. A warrior capable of solo combat needed to meet two prerequisites:
One: Possess terrifying physical abilities and mobility. Two: Be equipped with modern weapons capable of exerting their potential, like the Ice and Fire Double-headed Snake. Even though such equipment had limited armor-piercing capabilities, it could damage old armor's internal hardware, and the high temperatures could threaten the pilot.
Clearly, Red Ghost did not possess such strength. Xixi and Kevin might be potential candidates, but even their piloting skills were not on par with Red Ghost's, which made Xiu Yi acutely aware of the importance of combat companions.
Wandering in this wasteland reminiscent of an apocalypse, Xiu Yi's environment was far from the comfort that modern people knew. He often would explore and train on remote planets that were not yet mined or protected by law.
During this journey, he also gradually realized the importance of companions. Many times, regardless of your immense strength, without your teammates' cooperation, efforts could be in vain. What awaited you could be traps or other threats. There were only unexpected challenges, no unencountered ones. Many of Xiu Yi's personal opinions were vetoed by his teammates, including Big Yellow.
Certainly, Big Yellow's way of vetoing was just to bark a few times. At first, Xiu Yi couldn't pinpoint exactly where the problem lay, until he had walked quite a distance and had time to think, when he realized that many times, if not for relying on the coordinated combat strategies of his teammates, his knowledge alone would have been utterly useless.
Brother Feng was right, knowledge is one aspect, but practical operation is another matter. When you think you have ample knowledge, it is only when you step out into the world that you realize hands-on operation is not as simple as imagined. The unpredictability in reality is vast.
Take an egg, for example. Eggs can be eaten, but during this period of adventure, Xiu Yi had also learned that eggs can not only be eaten but also be fried, boiled, pickled, used as a drink, and they can even choke someone to death.
As Xiu Yi faced increasingly powerful enemies, he would marvel even more at Brother Feng's strength. Brother Feng always went solo and had never been accustomed to teaming up. With his own power, he could instantly kill any opponent he encountered, which invariably filled Xiu Yi with a sense of pride.
Now, each time he passed a town, Xiu Yi would habitually tell his newly met friends that he was the chief disciple of the Revenge Shadow Rider. Although no one believed this rascal's tall tales, Xiu Yi was nevertheless tireless in telling them. In fact, he didn't care whether people believed him or not, but Xiu Yi firmly believed that one day he would catch up with Brother Feng's footsteps.
Liquor, forever the best companion for a traveler.
Blowing through the delicate frame of the Mackey Star Domain, as the moonlight arrived, Xiu Yi, aboard his mecha, habitually picked up his flask and took a big swig, then lay there with a gaze that grew profound as it reached into the distant cosmos.
At this moment, his face showed no trace of childishness, replaced instead by a blend of determination and daring, much like Feng Yi when he was on Colonial Planet 103. At least when one's admiration for someone reached a peak, even their actions and mannerisms may change, influenced by that individual.
Drinking isn't such a good thing, but it can ease the fatigue of the journey, a fact that Brother Feng had told him long ago. Xiu Yi had some personal understanding of this, for after each battle, he would always drink a little.
"Another night of stars," Xiu Yi murmured involuntarily.
The darkness here was like the daytime of Dragon Gate Space Station No. 17. While gazing at the starry sky, he planned his future route, and at the same time, he waited for the arrival of the Revenge Shadow Rider.
In less than half an hour, the fight between the Revenge Shadow Rider and Desert Storm would commence as scheduled. Xiu Yi, of course, couldn't care less about who Desert Storm was, yet it was said that this person's strength was not inferior to any top fighter. Although Xiu Yi harbored extreme confidence in Feng Yi, he also had some worries, for his opponent was capable of defeating the Blue Electric Rain.
Xiu Yi shook his head vigorously, and, scattering his thoughts, he quickly began to study his travel plans for the next day. After all, there was still half an hour left before the fight was due to start, and he was in no hurry.
Stretching from Mackey Star Domain inward, crossing Death Planet and skipping over Devil Star Cluster, one could reach Mardis. This return was not only a test for Xiu Yi himself but also a demonstration to Brother Feng that they were no longer the rookies of the fight team 5, but rather a formidable team composed of Rank 3 hunters, enjoying a certain reputation in nearby star domains.
Time drew to a close amid the not so lengthy wait...
Through the Light Screen projections from the thunder gauge, the battle at Dragon Gate Space Station swiftly unfolded. Xiu Yi could clearly see the interior of the arena. Apart from the rise and fall of the crowd noise, he didn't see the Revenge Shadow Rider, nor even Desert Storm, lined up as the contender.
