Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 825: Peace Treaty

Feng Yi had become famous in one fell swoop; in fact, he had always held a revered status within the federation, and his flexible strategic thinking made him unique among contemporary generals. His personal influence now carried significant weight globally, to the extent that even Kexiao had suffered repeated setbacks at his hands.

President Adams also highly praised the Blazing Flame Legion and Feng Yi's distinguished achievements in front of the media.

However, this was merely a public statement; within the upper echelons of the military, the senior officers knew that this action was still not enough to turn the tide. After all, a mere 3,000 elite troops were not numerous. If Kexiao directly returned to the Capital Planet, which he had already done, they would have no chance of winning against the empire's forces, which had an absolute numerical superiority.

Given Kexiao's decisive execution capabilities, returning to the Saudi capital would take just a few days. Moreover, the resource planets he had abandoned were not without defensive capabilities. On the contrary, the federation would find these planets difficult to capture during the race against time, and could at most conquer 2-3 resource planets by conservative estimates.

The initial lightning raid by the Blazing Flame Legion had completely caught the enemy off guard, but if Kexiao were adequately prepared, the Space Fleet might even struggle to capture a single planet, as the ground troops would leave no gaps.

By the time Kexiao returned to the Saudi capital, the loss to the Blazing Flame Legion would be much more than just 3,000 mecha warriors or 300 billion; the 3,000 mid-to-high-level pilots could also be considered a treasure of the federation. Although they were not quite Red Cloak elites, they definitely deserved the title of strongest warriors under the Red Cloaks, and these soldiers could serve as instructors in any military unit.

And if the central regional fleet was also deployed to support the northern starry sky, the ambitious Pross Empire might very likely rebel. The central region of the federation would be like a noodle stretching longer and thinner; if cut in the middle, the northern planets could face enemies on both sides, isolated and unsupported. Driven by interests, in the eyes of the ambitious and politicians, this would represent a piece of irresistible fat.

Giving the relationship between the federation and Pross, the Military Department could not be certain if Pross would rebel. They were not really considering a ceasefire agreement, which was nothing more than a piece of paper that could be torn up at any time, a trivial reason, or a deliberately manufactured contradiction; countless such noble-sounding excuses could be easily fabricated.

It now seemed that while the federation had apparently opened up the situation, the advantage was in fact merely superficial, because the Blazing Flame Legion had not completely controlled the governing party families. That was the most fatal point. Once Kexiao finished off the Blazing Flame Legion, he only needed a simple order, and those troops that had surrendered unconditionally would still be the core forces of Saudi.

What the federation had gained were only 1-3 resource planets nearing depletion on the fringes, or potentially none at all, since it was unclear how many military forces existed on the Saudi planetary surfaces.

Even if three planets were obtained, the total output of these war-torn regions over a few years was not significant compared to what was lost, especially considering the versatility of the 3,000 elite troops; resource planets, after all, were inanimate, and who could think so far ahead during a time of war?

Through setting up the Star Domain Broadcast, General Greedy Wolf had soon contacted Feng Yi, whose innocent eyes now bore a few traces of exhaustion, "Kid, you fought the battle well."

The tone didn't sound too good; Feng Yi noticed that the old man's mood wasn't particularly great. It was uncertain if it was because of the 3,000 elite troops caught in a crisis or because he hadn't captured everything. Damn it, as it was, hearing the news that the Imperial Fleet was withdrawing nearly drove him mad. At this critical moment, he had no mood to consider other issues and urgently thought of a solution.

Greedy Wolf sighed slightly, "You were too hasty. The five major political parties under your control still cannot fundamentally solve the problem. The domestic situation seems great now, but, the military is struggling to prepare another 3,000 ninth-generation models. To criticize you, this fight was essentially an exchange of heavy losses, hurting the enemy 1,000 and ourselves 800."

Feng Yi fell silent upon hearing these words…

Greedy Wolf continued, "Although the Saudi political situation is currently chaotic, the Blazing Flame Legion's predicament is equally bleak. However, seeing as you have captured five ruling parties, and considering various domestic public opinions, the Military Department has decided in an interim resolution to promote you to the rank of major general concurrently serving as the commander of the Third Group Army of the Capital Military Region, and also the commander of the Blazing Flame Legion. Congratulations, whether you accept the command or not is up to you, but either way, the rank is yours, and with it, a little more money for your secure job."

Shit, reduced to just a rank after battling and bleeding on the battlefield? Luckily, Feng Yi wasn't concerned with these matters. He knew the old man meant something deeper than it seemed, noticing the sly smile on Greedy Wolf's face, he knew there was more to come, so he began to listen…

"Saudi is a nation where every citizen is a soldier and can legally carry firearms. What do you think happens if the fight drags on?" Greedy Wolf suddenly posed a question Feng Yi had never seriously considered.

Feng Yi shrugged, "Nothing more than a jointly declining national fate. Why suddenly ask me this?"

"So the Military Department has long harbored intentions for a ceasefire, just hasn't found the right moment yet. This has largely been agreed upon through negotiations. Your identity also holds special significance, plus with your distinguished achievements, make a statement."
