Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields

Chapter 77: Tens of Tons

Beauvais Town, temporary military headquarters.

Lin Yi stood in front of everyone, his expression calm and unhurriedly listed numerous varieties of vegetables available for trade.

As soon as he finished speaking, the officers who had been quietly chatting instantly fell silent, each with wide eyes, faces full of incredible shock.

However, Red Wine Commander remained rational.

To him, a wide variety of crop sales often meant limited quantities of each, and these scarce foods might only be suitable for so-called elite individuals.

But as the leader of the regiment, he was responsible for all the soldiers and civilians in Beauvais Town. The large population had been stuck in a food shortage for a long time.

Thus, he showed little interest in the array of other crop varieties.

Instead, he keenly noticed one sentence—

"Because potatoes are my main product, their quantity is a hundred times than that of carrots."

He intertwined his fingers, staring at Lin Yi: "Merchant, tell me, how many potatoes can you sell me?"

"To start, how about... forty tons of potatoes and five to ten tons of vegetables?"

Forty tons of potatoes?

Five to ten tons of vegetables!?

Red Wine Commander repeatedly chewed on these numbers in his mind, feeling as if he were dreaming.

Did you ransack all the granaries in the camps of Paris before coming here to trade with me?

This is the end of days, the apocalypse!

In this apocalypse, in the Beauvais Town camp, people would fight to the death for a mouthful of rice.

And now, the merchant before him actually claimed to provide—not just a bag, not ten bags!

But damn dozens of tons!

The Red Wine Commander's previously intertwined fingers were now tightly clenched together with excitement.

His body trembled slightly, eyes wide, staring at Lin Yi with disbelief.

The officers present were also stunned, their expressions transitioning from initial shock to joy and excitement, mouths agape and unable to close for a long time.

If this deal could be implemented, they could enjoy more resources and privileges in the future.

Thinking about no longer worrying about the pitiful rations and instead being able to eat exquisite food, they were thrilled beyond control.

Wait a minute!

Suddenly, Red Wine Commander came to his senses.

"Did you say 'to start'? Does that mean you can sell us more food in the future?"

"That's right, but it depends on you. Based on this transaction, I will consider further cooperation."

Boom!

Red Wine Commander slapped the table fiercely, unable to contain his excitement any longer.

In this apocalypse, food is life; it's the foundation of running a camp.

Forty tons of potatoes and five to ten tons of vegetables are already astronomical amounts of food wealth.

But most importantly, if subsequent cooperation goes smoothly, there will be an endless supply of abundant food.

Red Wine Commander's thoughts galloped like a wild horse, as if he had already seen—

The Beauvais Town camp rapidly growing strong!

And himself, as the leader leading the camp to glory, being admired and loved by all.

Moreover, leaving a grand mark in the annals of this apocalyptic history.

However, his thoughts drifted elsewhere.

But as a commander, he thought far more than the officers.

He couldn't help but speculate secretly.

Who exactly is this merchant?

What kind of enormous power is behind them to provide such astonishing quantities of food?

At the same time, he became secretly cautious, knowing that such a formidable trading partner, if not properly collaborated with, could have disastrous consequences if offended...

At this thought, Red Wine Commander suddenly opened his eyes wide, the flicker in his gaze gradually calming.

He checked his watch and realized it was getting late.

He smiled, warmly inquiring Lin Yi, who was lazily leaning back in his chair:

"It's late, would you like to stay here overnight? We need some time to gather coins and find a place to store the food."

"Of course."

"Yak, find a place for our merchant to stay and get him something to eat."

"I already have food."

Lin Yi smiled, a boiled potato appearing in his hand.

In the Beauvais Town camp, ordinary soldiers had dreadful rations.

Their daily meals were hard, rough unleavened bread, accompanied by a bland noodle soup, which only had a bit of canned meat for flavor.

This food was far from filling.

Even though the officers had relatively better treatments, in this environment of extreme scarcity, they couldn't remember the last time they had potatoes.

Thus, when the aroma of Lin Yi's boiled potato wafted out, every officer's stomach growled uncontrollably.

In an instant, a chorus of "gurgling" sounds filled the room.

Yak, as the Red Wine Commander's deputy, quickly tidied up his slightly embarrassed expression and courteously invited Lin Yi to go and rest in another building.

Lin Yi nodded, rose, and followed him out.

Beauvais Town's night had many patrols on the streets, with gunfire echoing from distant shooting ranges.

The guards, quiet and unobtrusive like owls, seemed to know everything that moved in their area.

Lin Yi glanced around and remarked with a smile, "It's lively here indeed."

"Yes, we are continually training new recruits, and searching this area for resources, equipment, and survivors."

The two didn't chat for long before arriving at an apartment.

The windows of the apartment were barred with iron, and the door was steel. On the table was an oil lamp and a cup holding a candle not yet lit.

"Mr. Lin, I hope you won't mind. Tonight I must lock you in here, as this is a military facility. We have rules against outsiders roaming freely."

"Understood."

Lin Yi didn't care, knowing that if he truly wanted to wander out, no one here could stop him.

"Thank you for understanding." Yak's deputy headed toward the door but then suddenly stopped.

He hesitated for a moment, finally turning around, his voice passing through the iron bars to Lin Yi's ears.

"Be cautious of Gustav; he's dangerous and short-sighted, and as you've seen, almost half of our young advanced officers are 'swayed' by him."

Subsequently, Lin Yi heard a click and then another—this door was secured with three strong locks.

The civilian politician, Gustav?

Lin Yi chuckled and asked Melanie, who was observing through a surveillance camera, "Report the situation."

"Boss! Everything's clear, no surveillance cameras; the building doesn't even have electricity."

"Did you save me dinner?"

"Of course, Youyou said you'd come back!"

Hearing this, Lin Yi teleported back to the Shelter.

Upon entering the Shelter, he was greeted by familiar and comforting smells, instantly putting him at ease.

The day had been fulfilling yet incredibly challenging.

At that moment, Chen Youyou, like a cheerful bird, dashed over, wrapping her arms around Lin Yi with a radiant smile on her face.

"Boss, you were amazing today!"

"Let's eat, Boss! We're starving here!" Annie exclaimed with chopsticks in hand.

Looking at everyone before him, warmth surged through Lin Yi's heart.

It seemed the group had been waiting to eat until he returned, a sign of good spirits worth all his efforts to provide for them.

On the table, freshly harvested vegetables and potatoes from the day were spread out, the sumptuous and varied dishes exuding an enticing aroma.

After such a tough day, the food tasted exceptionally delicious.

Sharing a meal with these beautiful and kind-hearted women filled Lin Yi's heart with warmth...
