Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields

Chapter 113: Rat Storm

Paris, in the metro tunnel.

Just as Lin Yi predicted.

Ten minutes later, the zombies stopped advancing, leaving behind a pile of zombie corpses.

In the tunnel, there were thousands of zombie corpses stacked haphazardly, with black and red blood forming a nauseating river of blood.

Any devout vegetarian monk, upon seeing this battlefield, would likely get so excited they'd wet their pants.

The soldiers, fighting fatigue, weaved through the pile of corpses, cautiously collecting bodies and loot.

If they suspected any zombie wasn't fully dead, or if its head looked too intact, they would have to deliver a fatal blow to confirm its end.

This was Lesson One that Lin Yi had taught them.

"There's a giant white rat here!" A soldier's cry shattered the dead silence.

With his shout, a mutant rat the size of a house cat darted out from the corpse pile, startling the nearby soldiers into retreating.

Lin Yi immediately realized the severity of the situation.

"Damn! Everybody move faster! If you see one, it means there are hundreds more!"

Before he finished speaking, the tunnel erupted into chaos.

The soldiers were in a complete panic, starting to collect bodies and loot as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, due to the dim light, they had to abandon searching for scattered coins.

"Boss! Rats! I saw three..." Da Chuan, this bear of a man, leapt up like a cat.

Lin Yi ignored him, waved a hand, and teleported everyone back to the Shelter, leaving only himself and Solomon behind.

Solomon quickly teleported the military jeep and the generator back to the Shelter.

Then he climbed into the carriage and used an air conditioner from the warehouse to block the entrance.

Only then did he transform into a stone man: "I'll clear the path!"

Five minutes later.

The two of them reached the other side of the carriage.

Looking back, hundreds of white rats crawled out from every crevice of the tunnel.

Each one was as big as a cat!

The rats began greedily gnawing at the corpses, but suddenly they turned around, hissing menacingly...

Lin Yi's heart tightened.

He immediately teleported the jeep back onto the tracks, summoned Da Xiaochuan, and continued leading the team forward.

At this moment, a voice came through the headset, it was the little girl Natasha: "Boss, if you handle the materials needed for pit construction, it seems to reduce building costs."

Upon hearing this, Lin Yi immediately thought of materials*.

"But where do I find steel and concrete? Do I need to dismantle a building? Hmm..."

"You don't need real concrete, you can use its components, like cement, gravel, sand..."

"Alright, let's grab whatever we can!"

Lin Yi summarized, then ended the conversation, noting that some people's talk was a bit too professional...

Ten minutes later.

The jeep successfully passed through the next metro station.

Along the way, they encountered several groups of zombies, but these zombies were knocked away like bowling pins.

Suddenly, a shockwave came from somewhere above, causing part of the tunnel's ceiling to collapse.

Even the military jeep bounced due to the massive impact.

"What the hell?" Solomon gripped the steering wheel with one hand and rubbed the bump on his head with the other.

Melanie spoke through the headset: "Boss! There's someone on the surface shelling a large group of zombies!"

"Looks like the Red Wine General! He still dares to attack the city. If they're shelling, it's definitely precision targeting, able to strike any point within the city..."

Lin Yi muttered to himself, suddenly cursing: "Damn it, we're directly beneath the shelling area!?"

"Yes, Lo——"

Before Melanie could finish, another round of shelling exploded in the area above them...

"What are they using to bomb?! The whole city is about to be blown to pieces!"

This shockwave was even stronger than the last, the ceiling in front of them swayed as if about to collapse.

Though it hadn't completely fallen yet——

It wouldn't hold much longer!

"Solomon, have you ever done drag racing?" Lin Yi suddenly asked.

Solomon was puzzled: "No..."

"Want to experience real drag racing? Let me show you the prowess of the gang racing champion."

With that, Lin Yi lifted Solomon and plopped him in the back.

He then sat in the driver's seat and grabbed the steering wheel: "Hold tight! Is your seatbelt fastened?"

Without waiting for anyone to answer, he slammed on the gas pedal.

This military jeep, designed for transporting high-ranking officers, performed outstandingly in this trial.

Not only was it easy to maneuver on the subway track, but it also had great driving performance and incredible speed.

Especially under Lin Yi's control, it shot forward like an arrow, precisely skimming the edges to avoid falling debris.

This left everyone with him looking pale.

But the greater crisis followed immediately!

Another explosion rang out, and the already shaky tunnel ceiling finally gave way.

But Lin Yi had already driven the jeep out of the shelling area, moving over 300 meters ahead.

Yet, they faced another disaster...

Behind them, the tunnel collapse was true enough, but the section of tunnel they were in also developed cracks.

The cracks widened into holes!

From the hole on the right, cat-sized white rats poured out, from the hole on the left, dog-sized gray rats dug their way in.

The rats and mice, like a landslide, surged towards the jeep from both sides.

Even Solomon, as composed as he was, couldn't help but draw a breath, his face devoid of color: "Oh my god..."

"We're all going to die! Boss, let's go back to the Shelter! The legends about the subway are all true!"

Da Chuan was completely terrified, though it was unclear if he wet his pants.

"Exciting!" Lin Yi burst into wild laughter.

First, he teleported the three idiots, who were already terrified to incoherence, back to the Shelter.

The jeep surged forward at full speed!

The mutant rats were getting closer, and the entire area up ahead was filled with frenzied rats and mice.

Lin Yi gripped the wheel with his left hand, holding a sword in his right.

The jeep slid across the battlefield like a sled, leaving bloodstains in its wake.

Those were the bodies sliced in half!

One second, five seconds, ten seconds, twenty seconds...

The incoming animals increased in number, piling on top of each other now.

Thirty seconds, forty seconds, fifty seconds...

Rats and mice began to fall from the ceiling like rain, their plump bodies thudding on the jeep's roof, hood, and windshield.

Making wet splattering sounds.

The vehicle still held out, but the right front spotlight broke first, followed by both rear lights going out.

Either something heavy hit them, or rats chewed through the wires.

"Good! Good! Good!" Lin Yi roared with a shout, using a board to wedge the gas pedal down.

He drew his sword, took his gun, and began a gruesome slaughter.

Another minute passed.

The influx of rats was nearly two meters high, the jeep dyed red, yet still sped crazily on the path paved with corpses...

Suddenly, another explosion came from above.

The rat fall intensified, turning into a true "rat storm"...
