My Goalkeeping System

Chapter 549: Godly

The second goal from Gregory was enough to put Unique FC in a much more stable state and they seemed to be playing much more comfortably now.

Comfortably in the sense that they were having more of the ball now, bringing their ball possession closer and closer to fifty per cent.

The match was currently in the thirty ninth minute and so far, Unique FC were moving the ball around, sometimes only stretching a bit past the halfway line before being forced to bring it back.

It was like they didn't feel like attacking anymore, but they also weren't willing to give the ball back to Norlin FC; they just wanted to drag the last few minutes out.

"Steve, what do you think of Dave?" Jim asked.

"Well, all I can say is, he's really surprised me this season, it's been a while since we've seen a goalkeeper that boldly gets this involved in the game. Do you know how absurd it is to be on top of the assist rankings in a tournament as a goalkeeper?"

"You just spoke some of my thoughts, and it's not just his passes; he's one of the best free-kick experts in the team, his shooting is powerful, and he just doesn't feel like someone who belongs in between the sticks." Jim articulated.

"Well, his goalkeeping is just as good so you can't really say he doesn't belong in between the sticks." Steve refuted.

"Well, I didn't mean it in that way, I just feel like he might do better away from that position. Anyway, he's been one of the most important players to this team and it'll be nice to see what great things this Unique FC team will be able to achieve this season."

"We've seen a lot already."

Dave's most recent assist to Gregory was his sixth assist in the Bilbeth Super Cup was his sixth assist putting him further away from everyone else; at this point, he was pretty much guaranteed to win the individual title.

The only person who had a chance to challenge him was currently out of the tournament.

"Oh, has Norlin found the breakthrough here?!"

A mistimed pass from Martinez to Edward was enough for Dennison to steal the ball and quickly send it rolling to Sai Ahmed who was near the box arc.

Unfortunately for the striker, before he could do anything with the ball, he was quickly brushed off his foot by Aima who dashed toward him from the side.

"Oh, that was quite the reckless challenge."

There was no question there, the referee wasted no time making the call before quickly making his way to Aima to show him the yellow card.

That was the second yellow card of the game and Unique FC's first.

Aima had no problem and accepted his booking, he also felt that he might have gone a little overboard there.

Fortunately, there was no commotion as the striker wasn't injured and was even helped up by the centre-back.

Unique FC still had to face the punishment for Aima's brashness, a free kick from less than twenty-five yards out.

Whether this would become a consequence would depend on Norlin FC's strength.

"That's a really dangerous spot to concede a free kick against Norlin FC."

Unique FC might have scored the most free kicks in the tournament so far, but Norlin FC weren't so bad themselves.

They were only able to get to the semi-final thanks to a free-kick goal in the last minute of their quarter-final match.

That was their second free-kick goal of the tournament, both of which were scored by the young winger Dennison.

At the moment, the winger could be seen placing the ball on the spot trying to get in a good position.

There was currently a great atmosphere of anticipation in the stadium even from the Unique FC fans. That said, they wouldn't go as far as wishing that the ball would fall into their goalpost.

With the ball now in position, the winger slowly took two steps backwards.

There was a four-man wall just inside the box, and Dave was busy instructing his other teammates to hold onto the free Norlin FC players in case of a rebound.

The free blew his whistle as soon as everything was in place and without much hesitation, the winger quickly closed up on the ball.

"Dennison, can he make something out of this?" Jim said.

The next second he screamed, "Dennison!"

The winger hit the ball with his left foot, adding a little bit of curve to it as he sent it flying toward the top right side of the goalpost.

Dave reacted quickly, diving toward the ball, but it was pointless as the ball ended up hitting the crossbar before flying out for a goal kick.

"Oh, he was so so close."

The youngster couldn't help but kick the ground in frustration as he watched the ball fly over.

A series of gasps swept through the stadium as numerous Norlin FC fans crashed back into their seats.

While everyone else was deeply involved in everything, there was someone else at the back limping at the back.

Now he was making the gesture, asking the coach to take him out.

"Edward seems to be in quite a lot of pain here, he's asking to be subbed out," Jim commented.

"Looks like it's the effects of that previous challenge."

Moments before Edward had the ball stolen from him, he was somewhat recklessly swept off his feet near the sideline.

In the eyes of many people, that was supposed to be a foul, but there was no reaction from the referee, and Edward, as meek as he was, didn't stir up much trouble for it as he didn't feel any discomfort at that moment.

Good thing Minino wasn't on the pitch at the moment.

Edward had to be taken off immediately and Ferran had to make his way to the pitch to replace him.

"Edward has had quite a good game up to this point but there's no denying who's much more of a threat in midfield between him and Edward."

With Ferran on the pitch, the game soon resumed with the midfielder immediately getting his first touch of the game as Dave quickly sent the ball flying to him.

The midfielder was engaged in an aerial duel, which he ended up winning to send the ball flying to Martinez, who quickly pushed it to Frankie, who was extending down the right flank.

"Oh, looks like Unique FC has started to press seriously once again."

Frankie was soon blocked by a Norlin FC player, but instead of trying to take him on, he swiftly sent the ball rolling to Henry who was moving further down from the middle.

Ferran quickly moved past the attacking midfielder at that moment, and without hesitation, the midfielder sent the ball rolling to him, getting past another opposing player.

What happened next was something no one expected.

From about thirty yards out, Ferran pulled his right foot back and launched the ball forward with a godly level of shot power.

He aimed toward the top right side and although Sentes was able to get the tip of his gloves on it, it wasn't enough as he was only able to control the ball enough for it to hit the crossbar before falling into the goalpost.

"Holy gas! What just happened?!"

If the last goal made the Unique fans go crazy, now it felt like they were about to turn the stadium upside down.

"How do you even pull that off?!"

Ferran acted quite nonchalant after scoring that, only lighting his head to lift, but you couldn't say the same about his teammates who were now swarming over him.

"What a player this guy is, all he needed was just a few touches to get that third goal for Unique FC," Jim commented. "Norlin FC came into this game looking quite confident, but this ticket to the final is slipping further and further away from them. Clearly, there's a noticeable gap between both sides."

<Well, I wasn't expecting that>

'No one was.'
