The Five Immortal Paths of Heaven, Earth, Man, God, and Ghost, were elucidated by the Longevity Daoist Pei Xuanjing as the path to certify oneself as a True Immortal.
It can be said that after Pei Xuanjing delineated the Five Immortal Paths, he became the strongest in the world. Numerous other powerful beings followed this path to gain strength, and it undoubtedly became the Great Tao, unquestionably orthodox within the worldly cultivation systems.
Even when the Heavenly Court later discovered innumerable worlds and various cultivation systems emerged, these systems were integrated into these five paths, serving as vital provisions for these Five Immortal Paths.
If any cultivation method failed to integrate into the Five Immortal Paths, it was considered as a side sect and inherently inferior, not capable of challenging the orthodox position.
Even some seemingly parallel paths to certifying as an Immortal, like refining Immortal Artifacts into one with the Longevity method, were not considered orthodox and were deemed side sects, not part included in the Righteous Path.
For such alleged side sects to overthrow the orthodox position bestowed upon the Five Immortal Paths, it was not only a challenge to the cultivation system but also to the many True Immortals and Taoist Monarchs who certified their Tao through these paths.
Yet, the Five Immortal Paths—Heaven, Earth, Man, God, and Ghost—remain undisputedly orthodox. As millennia have passed, countless powerhouses have certified their Tao through these paths, cementing their unshakable orthodox status.
The Heavenly Immortal Path cultivates laws, the Immortal holds divine authority, the Human Immortal cultivates themselves, the Earth Immortal opens worlds, and the Ghost Immortal refines the Yang God.
This is a concise description of the Five Immortal Paths, indicating the route forward after certifying oneself as a True Immortal.
Among the Five Immortals, the Immortal Path is the hardest yet simplest.
The challenge of the Immortal Path does not lie in cultivation, but in acquiring a divine position. Divine positions are limited, as are authorities. Even if a noble divine position cannot acquire authority in the Heavenly Court, the innate heavenly authority of that divine position is indispensable.
Immortals are also considered Gods, and as such, they uphold the Tao on behalf of the Heavens, shepherding all living beings. Only the heavenly authority can coalesce into a divine position; without authority, a divine position is no divine position at all.
There are two kinds of births for a divine position: one is naturally bred by heaven and earth, and the other is cultivated through the Heavenly Court's Gods Sealing List.
If one were to compare the strengths between these two types of divine positions, there is no fixed standard. A divine position naturally bred by heaven and earth is not necessarily stronger, nor is an artificial one necessarily weaker.
The primary difference is that positions bred by heaven and earth are fundamentally rooted in them; while under the control of the Gods Sealing List, they exist independently of it.
In contrast, most divine positions from the Gods Sealing List exist solely due to it. If they lose their name on the list, the position can be erased and reclaimed. Only a handful of strong positions manifest due to circumstances, existing even if the list is destroyed, albeit damaged.
To some extent, as long as the heavens endure and the Gods Sealing List remains, the divine position persists almost as an immortal and indestructible entity. Even if a spirit falls, it can rejoin the heavens over time, provided its name and position aren't retracted.
This means that obtaining a divine position through refining is akin to securing an entry ticket to immortality. Thus, competition for these positions is extraordinarily fierce.
Only powerful beings or those blessed with immense Qi Luck at the moment they certify their Tao sense the divine position coalescing within them. Otherwise, the birth of any divine position invites fierce contention from countless cultivators, which is why the cultivation of the Immortal Path is so difficult.
However, once one obtains a divine position, an adept on the Immortal Path can, through their rank, leverage countless resources over time to elevate to a Realm matching that divine position. Regardless of one's innate talent, advancement is a matter of resource and time, presenting no inherent barrier.
The mightiness of the Five Immortal Paths was vividly demonstrated by that Longevity Daoist Pei Xuanjing. All aspirants with ambitions for supremacy seek to cultivate the Five Immortal Paths, intending to forge an unparalleled foundation.
However, while ambition may abound, actualizing it is uncertain. As of now, among the various Taoist Monarchs in the Realms of Heavenly Seas, beyond the Longevity Daoist, no other Monarch has genuinely cultivated all five paths to reach the status of Taoist Monarch. Of course, if any Monarch hides their attainment, it remains unknown. Once reaching this level, if they choose privacy, none can discern their foundation.
Like the Spiritual Primordial Lord Qingling, who hails from the Taoist School and holds a divine position in the Heavenly Court, naturally possesses advantages on the Heavenly and Immortal Paths, only dabbling in the Human and Earthly Paths. To this day, his Human Immortal Path has not transformed into a God-Devil Body, his Earthly Immortal Path only establishing a Spirit Realm Cave Heaven, and it's still a long way from becoming a Small Thousand World.
Among the Five Immortal Paths, the Heavenly and Immortal Paths boast the most cultivators. This stems from the Heavenly Immortal Path involving the emulation of heaven and earth laws, demanding high innate talent but few resources, whereas the Immortal Path necessitates only possessing a divine position to harvest.
