Heaven's oasis was an extremely famous location in Damon's last life. It was kind of a dungeon, except it was a floating dungeon that kept changing its location. Only a lucky few were able to enter it, and most of those who entered came back with memory loss and no gains whatsoever.
Eventually, a dedicated few did manage to return with minor gains. The said minor gains included epic gear and a lot of good stuff. More importantly, there was a key detail that players finally managed to uncover.
The fairies in that dungeon possessed absurdly high luck stats. That made them nearly impossible to hit and even harder to kill. This was the reason why most attempts failed before reaching the inner chambers.
And even when some managed to defeat the outer guardians, the final boss was undefeated and, worse, it was capable of wiping memories.
The only successful escape strategy involved waiting until the dungeon moved again. Once it relocated, anyone still inside would be ejected from the incomplete run. No boss battle, no memory loss.
It was shameless. But nobody cared. The loot was worth it. Damon, however, didn't care about the epic-tier gear. What he wanted… was the fairy blood essence.
Even if he failed to defeat the final dungeon boss and his memory of the dungeon was wiped clean, his stat gain would remain. This was a must-visit dungeon for him.
The single most sought after attribute in Earth Online was Luck and it was also the most stubborn attribute among everything.
There were zero options available to increase it through edibles or potions. Many players tried cooking, fishing and what not to forcibly increase the luck stat but everything turned out to be useless. There was simply no crafting product that could affect luck.
There were a couple of items here and there which could given one or two points in luck but most often the other attributes of these items were shit. Despite that, these items went for insane prices.
However, now Damon finally had a golden opportunity to increase his Luck stat. He was not going to let this chance slip by. It was time to hunt some god damn fairies!
He quickly approached the two people who were chatting and asked. "Sorry. I couldn't help overhearing. What do you mean by the oasis is back?"
The younger of the two men blinked, startled. "Oh. Uh, yeah. There's been talk since this morning. A trader caravan from the southern sandspines said they saw glimmers, floating lights, strange winds, and a patch of forest where there shouldn't be one. The elders say that means the oasis has returned. I dunno if it's real, but the word's spreading fast."
Damon immediately knew that this was it. There were many names for the fairy dungeon including, magic forest, fairy paradise and heaven's oasis but the characteristic feature and telltale sign of the dungeon was its glimmer and the floating lights.
"Where exactly?" Damon asked.
The other man, older and more grizzled, leaned in with narrowed eyes. "Why do you ask? Even if it's real, you'd have to be mad to go there. That region's cursed. Most who chase it don't come back. They say the sands swallow you, and if not the sands, then the spirits. Dangerous beings reside inside the oasis."
"Ha Ha Ha. I know that. I was just curious." Damon laughed and thanked the two guys before walking briskly in the opposite direction.
"What do you think are the chances that guy is going to the heaven's oasis?" The first guy laughed.
The second guy shook his head and sighed. "He definitely looked the idiot type. He is sure to go there first and suffer. What a pity. I already warned him but fools and idiots are their own worst enemies. There is no saving them."
Damon smiled bitterly as he could still hear the two talking. He did not mind. These people did not understand what he could gain from entering such a place. Just to be safe, he walked around the city and a few more were gossiping about the same phenomenon.
Confirming the location, he quickly started heading over. The dungeon could disappear at any moment. He needed to be fast. But even then, he traveled for almost two hours straight, passing abandoned outposts, shattered bone piles, and cursed totems half-buried in sand.
Finally, he crested a ridge and froze. There, nestled in the cradle of a crescent dune, was a shimmering mirage that didn't waver. A forest. In the middle of the desert. Vines coiled around pillars, and crystal-clear waterfalls tumbled into floating orbs that defied gravity.
The Heaven's Oasis had manifested.
Damon inhaled slowly. It was actually here. He did not waste any second and quickly entered the swirling portal that appeared every now and then. He was not alone.
Several NPCs from the neighbouring towns and cities were also trying their luck. Each entered different parts of the massive dungeon so when Damon arrived, he was the only one in the lush green forest.
The ground beneath him was mossy and springy, despite the desert backdrop just moments ago. Light streamed in through an unseen canopy above, diffused into rainbows by floating motes of energy. Trees grew upside down, waterfalls flowed in loops, and strange luminous flowers pulsed with vibrant energy.
Damon kept his movements fluid, activating Shadowstep and Stalk as he advanced through the winding forest paths. Other players and NPCs were scattered across the map and he needed to be faster than them and get as many kills as possible.
After ten minutes of travel, he finally encountered his first real target, a [Jewelwing Sylphid], Level 120. A small cute girl floated above a pool of mana, wings refracting light in dazzling arrays.
At first glance, the girl looked completely harmless. She even giggled as she locked her gaze onto Damon, giving him a mischievous wink. But Damon knew better. These fairies were anything but cute or harmless.
And this wasn't even their true form.
