Damon only sighed. He turned around and opened his mouth to explain when Kate firmly shook her head.
"I am not questioning you here, you idiot. Remove that stressed out look from your face. I am not going to be that woman who is going to question your every move. I already told you I am fine with other women in your life. We don't have to talk about it every single time. Do what is best for you."
Damon shook his head. "No. I am doing what is best for us, for our family. The problem is something else. Lirae is not with me. If I am not wrong, she should be in the elven territory right about now."
"What?" Kate was shocked. Damon then explained everything that happened.
"Oh, so you already made her your follower?"
Damon nodded. "She helped me when I was in need. I couldn't say no to her."
Kate shook her head. "No. This is good. I have heard that elves are powerful beings. It is better if you have a lot more powerful followers. But if she is already in some other place in the elven territory, then how are you going to get her back?"
"Do you even know where that is? I don't think anyone has made any contact with elves just yet? Also, even if you get there, wouldn't all the elves be mad at you just like that guy for changing her?"
"Yes. That is a problem. But I think they will be mostly fine with her transformation." Damon suddenly smiled.
"Why is that?" Kate was surprised.
"That is because. She is still an elf, alright. Her transformation took place in a completely unexpected way. Even I was surprised." Damon mysteriously answered.
"I will explain to you everything in detail when I come back with her to the Blood Hall. For now, I cannot say anything for sure. I merely had a moment to analyze her new form before shit hit the fan. So who knows… I might be wrong."
Kate nodded.
"And I also have a way to reach her. I can tell exactly where she is right now, or any time in the future, even if they moved her to many different places. That is not the problem. In fact, this worked out for the best. This way, I don't have to deal with any pesky quests. I have a direct path laid out for me to the elven territory."
Damon paused for a moment and then continued. "I am just not sure if I should go there or not right now. I am trying to analyze the risk versus reward. If I did it sometime later, I would have a better chance to deal with anything thrown at me over there."
Kate let out a sigh and sat down next to Damon. "Are you confident in at least running away if there is any danger?"
"Of course." Damon nodded.
"Then you should go after her immediately. It might be her own family, but she won't necessarily be treated well, you know. You said yourself that she helped us when we needed it, so we should do the same now. You should go and bring her here."
Damon smiled and pulled Kate closer to hug her. "I know. I want to do that too. But at the same time, I don't want to leave you guys alone here. Blood Hall might not be as safe as it should be. There are a lot of new faces around here now."
Kate chuckled. "Damon, you can't always babysit us. Mark is here. Erin is here. Ellora is here. And Kaelthorn is here. I think together we can at least run away from any danger. Also, I can always log out, you know. Actually, now that I think about it, you should take Erin or Kaelthorn with you."
Damon immediately shook his head. "No. I don't think so. You guys all stay here. I will do this by myself. I have no idea what will happen when I enter the elven lands. I don't want to risk any of your lives."
Kate frowned, clearly unhappy with his answer. She pulled back from his embrace and looked him straight in the eyes.
"You always do this," she said softly. "Take everything on yourself. I get that you're strong, Damon, maybe even the strongest among us, but you're not invincible. And this… this isn't just a dungeon or a boss fight."
"You're going into another territory. A hidden society that's already angry at you for turning one of their own. You'll be surrounded, outnumbered, and completely isolated. Doesn't that sound like the worst kind of mission to go solo on?"
Damon hesitated for a moment, then sighed. "I am telling you. It's not that simple. You guys need to keep a watch over things here. I am pretty sure someone will make a move. I am damn sure of it. When that happens, I need to be here. And since that is not happening, all the others need to be here."
Kate narrowed her eyes at him. "Okay. If you say so. I am the weak one. So maybe I will log out right now and stay in the real world for the next few days. Will that make you feel better?"
"Definitely. Yes. But I am still not taking anyone." Damon smiled.
Kate sighed and gave up. " Fine. Just come back safely."
Without wasting much time, Damon quickly stood up to leave. "Do you have to go right away?" Kate asked, reluctantly.
"Yes. I was actually giving them a head start, so they won't know I am following them. But I do have to go soon. Otherwise, their trail will go cold."
"Okay." Kate nodded. Damon gave her a hug and a quick kiss on her forehead and left the blood hall. He thought for a moment about taking green eyes with him, but then decided against it. There was no rush to bring her there without going there first and scouting everything.
