Instigator and Protector of Violence

Chapter 268: The Long Journey

How did Ain end up in the trunk?

This is too strange.

Ethan didn't notice at all when he put things in earlier, so when did she get in?

"Stop the car."

Johnny Blackbird immediately gave the command, then looked towards the trunk.

Ethan thought about it for a moment, but didn't make any unnecessary movements and pulled over.

Coincidentally, there weren't many people around; it was a relatively quiet road.

Johnny Blackbird got out of the car, walked slowly to the trunk, and knocked on it three times, as if knocking on a door, saying, "Knock, knock, knock, is anyone home?"

"Kind sir, please let me out. I'm suffocating in here!"

Even though Ainbez was speaking through the trunk, her words carried an inexplicable charm.

Johnny Blackbird seemed to have intended to tease Ainbez but ended up opening the trunk.

"Dear lady, it's truly my mistake and fault to let someone as beautiful and charming as you stay in the trunk for so long. Please allow me to offer my sincerest apologies."

Upon seeing the person in the trunk, Johnny Blackbird spoke even more gentlemanly, slightly bowing and extending a hand, as if ready to help a princess out of a carriage.

"Thank you, Mr. Johnny Blackbird."

Ainbez elegantly stepped out of the trunk, not at all looking the least bit disheveled, like she really was stepping out of a carriage.

The scene was indeed more absurd than absurd itself.

In a vehicle controlled by dangerous kidnappers, a princess stepped out from the trunk, supported by one of those kidnappers.

"May I ask, Your Highness, how did you get in there?"

Johnny Blackbird was utterly baffled by this point.

And so was Ethan.

At the same time, he breathed a slight sigh of relief. He initially thought Johnny Blackbird intended to use violence against Ainbez, in which case, he'd have to intervene.

After all, Ainbez had been kind to him, and he couldn't bear to see the princess get hurt before his eyes.

Now it seemed, Johnny Blackbird was more protective than violent, quickly getting out of the car as if worried about harming Ainbez.

"Can't say, Mr. Johnny Blackbird. It's a girl's secret."

Ainbez smiled lightly, her gaze enchanting, making her allure irresistible.

"Then, may I ask what your purpose is?"

Johnny Blackbird continued speaking.

"Let Ethan go."

Ainbez glanced inside the car, as if checking Ethan's condition.

"No problem, I'll definitely let him go. After all, I'm just after money, but Mr. Ethan will have to pay a small price."

Johnny Blackbird sounded agreeable.

"How much, name your price."

Ainbez asked directly.

"No, no, no, Your Highness, you've misunderstood. I'm not extorting you; I never take ill-gotten gains."

Johnny Blackbird appeared principled.

"Did I misunderstand? But I often hear news about you robbing banks; you're the most famous thief lately."

Ainbez stared at Johnny Blackbird.

Johnny Blackbird looked somewhat troubled, released Ainbez's hand, and with a spread of his hands said, "The world always misunderstands me too much."

"Really a misunderstanding?"

"Of course, I've never committed a crime. I simply take money that doesn't belong to those people from the bank and give it to those who need it."

Johnny Blackbird emphasized the righteousness of his actions.

"That's why I won't take your money. You're a good person, Your Highness."

"Ethan is also a good person."

Ainbez took the opportunity to say.

"Yes, Ethan is also a good person, so let him do a good deed to the end."

This left Ainbez momentarily speechless.

Johnny Blackbird continued, "I've been watching the whole time today; at least five million Golden Rye was photographed, right? Bring out all that money, and that will do."

"Some of it doesn't belong to Ethan, and Ethan was planning to donate a portion to those in need anyway. You don't have to do this."

"Thirty percent? Too little, I need all of it."

Johnny Blackbird appeared very determined on this issue.

"Must it be this way?"

Ainbez let out a sigh.

"Your Highness, can I take you somewhere? You're a good person, perhaps after you see it, you'll understand why I must do this."

With that, Johnny Blackbird gestured as an invitation, even opening the door for her.

Ainbez got into the car.

As Johnny Blackbird was about to get in, she suddenly said, "I'll go, but you drive, and have Ethan sit in the back."

Johnny Blackbird was momentarily taken aback, then seemed to understand, nodding with a peculiar smile, "Of course, no problem, at your service, Your Highness."

Ethan was naturally happy not to drive and sat in the back seat, alongside Ainbez.

"Your Highness..."

Johnny Blackbird sat in the driver's seat, intending to say something.

But Ainbez placed her slender finger to her lips, signaling him not to speak.

Johnny Blackbird fell silent.

He started the car, thoughtfully turned on the radio, lowered the volume, and found a station playing soothing music, then drove forward.

In that moment, Ainbez hoped the journey would never end.

——————————

In contrast to the leisurely trio in the car, Vasini had reached a critical life-and-death moment.

He hadn't managed to dodge that shot.

He was hit by the bullet.

But luckily, at the crucial moment, he used Throat-Cutter Neil to block the shot.

Simultaneously, Valentino, who had launched a distraction outside, helped buy some time for him.

Because the young Travis suddenly showed an amused smile, saying, "Interesting, is there another ambush?"

He raised his revolver again, but the sense of pressure was not as intense as before.

Vasini quickly consumed a pill provided by Kaster. Despite blocking the bullet, the overwhelming sensation of impending death seemed to dissipate significantly.

However, the danger still existed.

The young Travis's strength far exceeded his expectations, and most importantly, their god was gone.

He had just prayed again without the initial backlash.

Yet there was no response—had the great Dark Savior truly abandoned them?

This crisis of faith was even more severe.

However, Vasini was a man who had been through life and death, and his faith was unwavering. Seeing Travis raising his gun once more,

his thought was: Then let me die here, God will surely deliver the deserved punishment.
