Gun of Ashes

Chapter 39 Prejudice

The negotiation broke down, and the two groups had their differences over business matters. The best way to resolve these differences was to eliminate the other party. With fierce spirits, they secretly tightened their grip on metal and guns, waiting for the boss's command for the underlings to charge forward and fight to the death.

Lorenzo wasn't concerned about the people behind him; instead, he looked at Heracles, who was smiling. His angry expression softened, becoming just like Heracles', with a strange smile.

Heracles didn't quite understand why Lorenzo could still smile, but he heard Lorenzo speak slowly.

"You really have no idea about those 'dark secrets,' do you?"

"Of course, if I knew, I wouldn't have gone to such great lengths to trouble you."

Heracles wasn't sure what Lorenzo was referring to, but he guessed it was the same matter he had been investigating.

"Indeed, thank you for your warning, Heracles."

"No need to thank me. Arrogance and prejudice are unavoidable flaws in humans." Heracles felt that something terrible was about to happen.

"Hmm? Arrogance and prejudice, I admit to some arrogance, but where is the prejudice?"

Both their words carried hidden meanings, Lorenzo asked.

"You will know once you've dealt with them. Do you need a weapon?"

"No need."

Lorenzo appeared extremely confident. He was arrogant and had the right to be. He was a Demon Hunter, and the Secret Blood flowing in his veins could crush all problems. He also remembered Heracles' words, as Lawrence had died because of his arrogance towards mortals.

The powerful Demon Hunting Dean never expected that what ended him wasn't a burning Nail Sword, but a rain of fire forged by industry.

"So... shall I start?" Lorenzo asked.

Heracles made a gesture inviting him to proceed. Lorenzo laughed, and under Heracles' puzzled gaze, he finished the remaining drink in his glass. Then the sharp Nail Sword was swung out, like a solidified light.

The clashing sound of metal made the already oppressive atmosphere even heavier. Both groups were constantly wary of each other, but they didn't expect the first person to draw a weapon would be this stranger.

"Does anyone still want to leave?"

Lorenzo inserted the Folding Blade into the table, separating the two groups like a line.

No one responded to him; more eyes were on him. It seemed they didn't mind dealing with this unexpected stranger before the fight broke out.

Realizing he had drawn hatred, Lorenzo's smile grew even wider as he walked forward.

"Aren't you using a weapon?"

This action scared Heracles; Lorenzo didn't even take his Folding Blade and approached empty-handed. He just wanted to test the difference between Lorenzo and ordinary people, not to let him die.

Holding a firearm under the bar, Heracles wondered if this detective was drunk. If things didn't go well, Heracles was ready to open fire to save Lorenzo, but at that moment, a voice rang out.

"That's a weapon for hunting 'monsters.' It's not necessary for these people."

Lorenzo said this.

Even though they couldn't understand the conversation, the mobsters could sense Lorenzo's provocation. Someone had already stood up, bright metal in hand.

It felt as if the air had turned into lead, pressing down on everyone's chest. Both sides were on high alert. One side believed Lorenzo was with the enemy, while the other thought the same.

Numbness filled his entire body. Lorenzo slowly opened his hand, then suddenly showed a strange smile to those present. In the next moment, he grabbed a shotgun hidden in his clothing and suddenly raised it to open fire.

The times have changed! Sir!

Lorenzo laughed arrogantly, looking like a tyrant of chaos.

This sudden change left everyone shocked. You seemed ready to take on everyone present, but suddenly pulling out a shotgun? What's going on?

Even Heracles, who was ready to jump over the bar to rescue Lorenzo, was stunned by Lorenzo's move, feeling like those high-sounding words were just Lorenzo bragging.

The mobsters were too scared to move. At this distance, the shotgun's firepower was lethal, leaving no chance for rescue. The shattered pellets would tear a person apart.

Lorenzo pulled the trigger, expecting the sound of scattering pellets tearing apart the mobsters before him in his firepower, but actually, after pulling the trigger, only a trickle of river water flowed out of the barrel.

Over a dozen pairs of eyes exchanged intentions back and forth, in a rollercoaster of events, even these seasoned mobsters seemed a bit unresponsive.

Lorenzo appeared somewhat frustrated, grabbing the barrel. He blamed himself for forgetting these things; he had just crawled out of the Thames River, and his ammunition had already been soaked.

"Sorry, let's switch to a different opening style!"

As these people were still reacting, Lorenzo said this and swung the shotgun, the stock landing heavily on someone's head. With this blow, the brawl officially began.

Screams, gunfire, flying bottles and chairs erupted as Heracles quickly ducked. A Flying Knife brushed past his hair and embedded itself in the wooden cabinet behind him. He peeked slightly, observing Lorenzo, only to see the great detective weaving through the crowd, aggressively despite the physical limitations.
