The Lucky Farm Girl

Chapter 143 Youthful Feelings Are Put to Good Use (2)_1

Yang Mengchen smiled and followed the direction of Long Yingtong's pointing finger.

She saw a stretch of verdant grass thriving under a few rolling green hills, a vast field of blooming flowers with no visible end, next to a quietly flowing river. The blue sky, white clouds, green hills, verdant grass, blossoms, and the river reflected each other, creating a scene akin to a gorgeously enchanting painting, which was delightfully refreshing.

"It's indeed beautiful!" As she looked at the extensive, lush grassland, an idea gradually formed in Yang Mengchen's mind.

At that moment, a few childlike voices suddenly rang out from outside the carriage, "Hello, Brother Chengning, hello, miss."

Yang Mengchen turned to see several seven- or eight-year-old children, each carrying a large basket on their back, walking up from the slope. The baskets were filled with various types of grass, each child with their head drenched in sweat, their clothes patched and soaked through, yet they greeted Yang Chengning and Mo Mei politely, their eyes clear and bright.

Yang Mengchen recognized these children. Every time the original host came to Wu Family Village, these kids would come to play with her, never laughing at the original host's silliness.

"Stone, you guys have been cutting pig grass again," Yang Chengning asked with a smile.

The eldest, Stone, nodded his head, and the other children followed suit, nodding in agreement.

Slowly setting down his basket beside him, Er Wa uncovered a leaf from atop the green grass, revealing a small pile of slightly red berries. He held out a leaf cushioning the berries to Yang Chengning, "Brother Chengning, these are mountain berries we picked from the hilltop; they're very tasty. Please try some."

"Thank you, Er Wa, we won't have any. Keep them for yourselves," Yang Chengning said with a smile, waving his hand.

The beautifully handsome Xiuxiu next to Er Wa interjected, "Brother Chengning, take some back for Sister Mengchen. Sister Mengchen loves mountain berries. When the berries have fully ripened, we'll bring some more for Sister Mengchen." Saying so, she put down her basket and took the mountain berries from Er Wa, handing them to Yang Chengning.

Yang Chengning accepted them reluctantly.

"Brother Chengning, is Sister Mengchen doing well?" Minmin asked with a concerned expression.

Yang Chengning nodded softly, "Thank you for your concern. Mei Mei is very well."

"We haven't seen Sister Mengchen in almost a year; we don't know if Sister Mengchen has forgotten about us," Xiuxiu said, her head drooping dejectedly.

"We are good friends; of course, I wouldn't forget about you." Pulling back the carriage curtain, Yang Mengchen slowly stepped out, looking at the children with mock displeasure, "Do you only see Brother Chengning? Didn't any of you notice me?"

"Sister Mengchen?" The children were taken aback, then joy spread across their faces as they cried in unison, "Sister Mengchen, we missed you so much!"

"I missed you all too," said Yang Mengchen with a smile.

The children happily surrounded her, laying down their baskets, each smiling radiantly.

The sincere smiles on their faces made Yang Mengchen's expression flicker with bewilderment.

In her previous life, the children in impoverished mountain areas would be as happy to see her, and their smiles would dispel any of her worries and sorrows in an instant. To preserve those smiles, she had donated funds to build many schools and fully sponsored numerous children to attend school, up to and including university. After graduation, she arranged for them to work in her companies.

"Is something the matter, Sister Mengchen?" Chun Tao asked with concern.

"I'm fine." Collecting her drifting thoughts, Yang Mengchen responded with a smile.

Minmin raised her small face and said, "Big brother caught two rabbits on the mountain a couple of days ago; I will bring them over for Sister Mengchen to raise."

"Okay," Yang Mengchen answered with a smile.

"Sister Mengchen loves the peanut and date cake that grandma makes. I'll go back and tell her to make more," Hei Kid said, grinning broadly.
