Such quick movements! Mo Mei's heart tightened, and then she turned to look at Yang Mengchen, "Ms. Yang?"
"It's nothing," Yang Mengchen shook her head, settled into the carriage, and took out a box of pastries she handed to the old man, "You should fill your stomach first." She would make pastries every other day, but she never repeated the ones made by the Shen family.
The old man opened the food box, took a piece of mung bean cake and tasted it, his eyes suddenly shining brightly, "Did the young girl make this?" Seeing Yang Mengchen nod, he took it for granted, "Make more in the future; this little bit isn't even enough to fill the gaps between my teeth." He kept eating, seeming as if he hadn't eaten for days, yet his movements were very elegant.
Yang Mengchen smiled and did not commit to anything, nor did she refuse.
There was a strong scent of blood on the old man, as well as a sour stench, something flickered in Mo Mei's eyes, but seeing Yang Mengchen's usual expression as she flipped through a medical book, Mo Mei greatly admired her.
"Young girl, what's your name?" The old man leaned lazily against the cushion, his black eyes hiding a deep and unfathomable dark glint.
Looking up, Yang Mengchen's gaze was clear as stream water, "Before asking someone else's name, elderly sir, you should introduce yourself first; this is basic etiquette."
"How interesting," the old man's tone lifted with an indescribable meaning, "So many years have passed, I have forgotten my own name. I'm about the same age as your grandfather, little girl; just call me Grandpa Kong."
Going with the flow, Yang Mengchen smiled and said, "Grandpa Kong, hello, my name is Yang Mengchen; the elders all call me Jiujiu."
"Mengchen? Nice name," the old man murmured softly, his expression becoming slightly distant.
Catching a faint hint of melancholy in the old man's robust eyes, Yang Mengchen did not ask further and lowered her head to continue reading the medical book.
After a moment, the old man collected his sentimental feelings, and his pitch-black eyes scrutinized Yang Mengchen with a probing look.
Her demeanor was focused and unaffected, seemingly impervious to outside influences, especially how she maintained her composure in the face of his bloodthirsty intent just before. Despite her young age, not only was she endowed with profound Inner Strength, but she also possessed such extraordinary composure; the young girl was truly remarkable!
Sitting beside her, Mo Mei kept a close watch on the old man; even though she did not feel any malice from him, she could not let her guard down since his appearance was too coincidental.
Upon returning home, Old Master Yang and the others just happened to be present and were surprised to see the three siblings bring back a scruffy old man.
Old Master Yang asked with confusion, "Jiujiu, who is this?"
"On our way back we encountered Grandpa Kong fainting in the bushes. Out of kindness, I saved him, and then Grandpa Kong insisted on staying at our home. Seeing how lonely and pitiful Grandpa Kong was, I agreed," said Yang Mengchen helplessly.
Since it was indeed the old man who had insisted, he didn't say anything more, but instead looked around curiously, his gaze coming to rest on Old Hai, a complex and shadowy light flitting through his eyes.
Old Hai, in turn, seemed contemplative as he watched the old man.
Yang Chengrong and Yang Chengyu nodded indicating that it was indeed the case.
Glancing secretly at Qing Qing, Mo Mei gave him a knowing look that only the two of them understood, upon which Qing Qing made a strange gesture.
Upon learning that the old man was lonely and forlorn, the good-hearted Yang family immediately welcomed him to stay as long as he liked.
"Jiujiu, hurry and prepare some hot water; I need to bathe, I've been stinking without bathing for days," the old man ordered Yang Mengchen with rightful authority, "And make more tasty food; I'm starving. You, help me bathe." He pointed at Yang Chengxuan.
Pointing at his own nose, Yang Chengxuan looked shocked and puzzled, not understanding why out of all the brothers, the old man had specifically picked him.
"Yes, you! You should know that it's your honor to assist me with my bath. Hurry up, don't dilly-dally like a girl!"
