Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1541: Already Knew

"How has your Rune Mastery been going?" Sylas asked his little sister.

Elara pouted. "Boring. I don't know why you like this stuff so much."

"Who told you I liked it?" Sylas asked.

"You only try to make me do things you like. Why can't you like more fun stuff? Do I look like I want to go running a million miles? I'm a dainty lady."

Sylas shook his head. His sister was almost 15 years old now, so maybe it was about time for her to start saying stuff like that. But even so, he'd rather not think about that.

"Answer the question."

Elara rolled her eyes. "It's going fine."

She raised a hand and a Rune appeared. Sylas saw that it had 50 Foundations, and it formed quickly to Vitality Mastery. Considering how lazy she looked, this was certainly not her limit.

"How close are you to Spark Mastery?"

Elara shrugged her shoulders. "I can probably do it. I just don't like the vague definition. It feels like I'm missing something."

Sylas nodded slowly.

By his sister's words, he could tell that she had already felt the gate to Spark Mastery. In fact, she could have probably stepped into it whenever she wanted to, but she wanted to understand more first.

How she acted now was probably how Sylas would act if he had the privilege of doing so.

Sylas was in a constant life-and-death struggle all the time. Ironically, as maybe one of his biggest battles loomed over the horizon, this was the most peace he had had in a very long time.

His sister, by comparison, had all the resources and research materials he had passed down to her. She had built her foundation of Rune Mastery steadily, while he was often forced to take large leaps on roads paved entirely by himself.

By the time he got to the Sanctum, his own master wasn't even able to guide him anymore. Though, he would never say that Gralith hadn't been helpful to him in various ways.

Instead of asking a more direct question, though, Sylas asked his sister something else.

"What do you think would make Rune Mastery fun for you?"

Elara blinked for a moment, taken aback by the question, and then her brows wiggled a little bit.

"Food!"

She yelled out the word as though a light bulb had really gone off in her head.

"What do you think? Do you think I could make cake spring up out of thin air?" she blinked hurriedly as though hoping the only answer Sylas would reply with was a yes.

Sylas thought for a moment. "Probably. But even I can't do that right now."

Cake required several organic items. Sylas could form inorganic things all the time. But something like eggs? Milk? Flour? Oil?

At best, he could form some water.

He stood there for a long while, his mind dancing from one thought to another.

Interestingly enough, Elara seemed lost in her own thoughts as well, a subtle wind of Aether wrapping around them.

At that moment, Magnus and Cedric both rushed in, having finally returned.

Magnus, Sylas' grandfather, didn't look a day over 40 any longer. His own aura was by far the strongest of the entire family, and he was already Level 50. In fact, he was very close to being ready to build his Foundation to begin the process of moving toward Level 51 and entering the E-Grade.

It could be said that if not for the sudden return to origin, Magnus would have begun this process already. But suddenly he had a ton of unearthed potential that he had to excavate first.

Magnus knew that Sylas had told him to wait at Level 0 like everyone else did, but he had spent his whole life waiting for the Summoning. Not everyone was willing to wait around for Sylas to raise them up.

He was a man himself. He had his own pride.

He had lost his wife already; what more did he have to live for other than protecting his descendants?

As for Sylas' father, he looked quite healthy as well. His aura wasn't nearly as strong as Magnus', but there was a sharp intellect in his eyes and a decisiveness that hadn't been there before.

Sylas didn't need to ask his father to know that if he had to kill, he could do so without hesitation. And that was all the calm Sylas needed.

Cedric was about to say something, but it was Magnus who stopped him at the last moment. He could feel that something was off about Sylas and Elara right this moment.

It was then that Cassarae's parents finally entered the room as well, Geraldene rushing over and burying her daughter's head into her bosom.

The room shook as the rush of Aether became greater and greater.

At some point, Sylas' own aura dimmed and his sister's flared. Sylas slowly took a figurative step back, his eyes regaining their focus as he watched his little sister's aura continue to bloom.

Back in the Rune Tower, Sylas had helped Gwenu to evolve her Rune Mastery to a new level. The method he had used back then was practically a form of hypnotism, though not truly.

Because of his ability to cast in the fourth dimension, Sylas was able to overlay what felt like an infinite number of Runes to those of the third dimension.

Of course, this wasn't true infinity, but instead a superposition of sorts—a state where there were an infinite number of possibilities that could suddenly snap into a single path the moment it was observed.

While Gwenu couldn't grasp the fourth dimension the way Sylas could, her vague realizations and understandings, when formulated in this way, gave her a natural inclination toward the right direction to take.

However, Sylas was able to easily grasp Gwenu's path.

The path his sister wanted to take, though… that was far more complicated.

A form of organic Rune Mastery? Sylas had never seen such a thing and had to begin to deduce a possible path himself…

Until his sister finally managed to latch onto something she understood.

Sylas' Primus Luminaria Title suddenly shook, and he almost chuckled.

It seemed it was trying to decide which of the two of them to follow.

Sylas already knew the answer to that question.
