Capítulo 604: Returning
“That’s all you want?” Rael blurted out. “I mean… sure? That doesn’t sound like a really big request.”
If anything, it was a little bit underwhelming.
He had begun to get the feeling that her main motivation for growing stronger and allying with Solenne and the others was because she wanted the Supreme Beast dead.
But now she wanted a peaceful resolution. Really… She was such a strange woman.
She mentioned Rael Altros, which, of course, is me. Though I guess that confirms my suspicions of me being an avatar of sorts.
He didn’t whine about it though.
After all, Rael was sure that what he had experienced so far was real. If he were to regain his memories, then he would naturally not forget this life, nor the people he loved.
If that were to happen, then he would naturally erase those memories and go back to how it used to be.
That was a promise he made to himself.
Still, now that the problem with Anastasia was sorted, he had to double-check something.
“Will you help me take down Lucien?”
“I will humor you,” Anastasia said. “The fourth trial… I don’t exactly recall what it is, but I can tell you it might be dangerous.”
“Very helpful.”
My ass.
He didn’t trust her one bit either. Her gaze literally screamed, ‘Turn your back to me and I’ll kill you.’
“Can you dismiss the dream now?” Rael asked. “We’ve been in here for nearly five days. Or was it six now?”
She just stared at him, then scoffed. Without an ounce of hesitation, she flicked her finger, causing the space around her to crack.
The dream began to shatter, and even his body changed. He was no longer Aurelius, and instead, he was Rael.
Anastasia was also back to her older and more mature self.
The dream had fully disappeared by now, and the two were just floating in a black void.
It might seem innocent and all, but this was the first time he hadn’t directly gone to his body after the dream ended, which worried him slightly.
“Are you stopping me from leaving?” Rael asked flatly. “You know I don’t really like forceful women.”
“Fool, don’t you know we’ve been in there for a long time? If we go back to our bodies this soon, our souls might destabilize,” Anastasia replied, narrowing her eyes. “Aren’t you a Dream and Mind-based entity? Shouldn’t you know these things?”
“Uh… my bad.”
He definitely should buy some kind of guide.
Nonetheless, he relaxed for a moment and waited for his soul or whatever to stabilize.
He felt the connection he had with Gaia, Anna, and Burger returning slightly, so he was sure that he would be back in his body any moment now.
But before that, Anastasia once again spoke up.
“Do you remember the face of every single person you’ve killed?”
Rael paused, then shook his head.
“I try to forget their faces. Nothing good would come of me remembering them. Don’t really want to see them in my dreams or anything. What about you?”
She scoffed and turned her head away. “That’s none of your business.”
“…”
“So that’s how it is. Suit yourself then,” Rael replied with a pout and crossed his arms.
If she was going to be that bitchy about it, then he might as well act like a spoiled child.
And so, like that, a few hours had passed.
It really felt like all he needed was a slight push.
“If you could turn back time to the day you were born, would you?” she asked once again.
He couldn’t understand her questions at all. Was she trying to gauge his personality, or was she just that bored?
“What’s next? Will you ask me if I would still talk to you if you were a worm? If so, just keep it to yourself. It’s not like either of us want to be here.”
“…”
That actually seemed to shut her up.
“Oh yeah, I kind of missed something obvious.” Rael palmed, turning to her. “Where’s Kareth? He disappeared after Lucien arrived.”
Anastasia paused for a moment, and right as she opened her mouth to reply, she winced in pain, failing to get the words out.
Rael immediately took that as a sign that she had a restriction placed on her that forbade her from talking about Kareth.
So the next trial is likely going to involve him. Kareth and Lucien face to face, perhaps? Rael wondered.
Just then, Anastasia’s body flickered out of existence, meaning she had returned to her body.
He waited a few seconds, and as expected, he was next.
It felt as though he was sliding through a water slide, and when he reached the bottom, he suddenly regained all feeling in his body.
But when his senses and strength returned, he realized he was back in the palace, lying right by a pond.
“Ugh… this feels so trippy.” Rael waved his hands around, nearly blasting the entire palace to bits. ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ Novᴇl_Fire(.)net
It took a couple of minutes to adjust his strength, but when he was done, he glanced up at the sky and then took a deep breath.
“I’m back.”
[Welcome back,] Gaia said, exhausted. [Funnily enough, Lucien did try to invade your mind.]
Did he now? Rael raised a brow. Was it just a probing attempt, or was he serious?
[Only probing. After he realized Anna and I were guarding your body and mind, he backed off,] Gaia replied.
“Hmm…”
That was a little strange.
For someone who knew so much about Rael, would he really do a probing attempt?
It was a little out of character, and it almost made it seem like there was something Lucien wasn’t sure of.
Did he check it out to see if I was naive enough to leave my body unguarded? Or was there some other goal? Rael thought, then shook his head.
All he could do right now was try bypassing the blocked future in his Prophetic Realm and simply wait for the trial to start.
Speaking of,
<4 hours.>
Four hours, huh?
He had four hours to try finding out what the fourth trial could be.
