Chapter 594: She Knows
Before that, however, he needed to get a few things in order…
<You’ve become a Bystander!>
<Bystander: Aurelius [Level 150]>
<Role: Rival of Anastasia.>
<Personality: Eccentric, competitive, hiding feelings, cold.>
Eccentric and cold should be easy. Competitive… Sure.
“I got four of them,” Rael said with a smile. “Though I’m glad my fellow teammates managed to arrive here safely. I was a little worried.”
Anastasia narrowed her eyes.
“After what happened a week ago, I thought you wouldn’t show up.”
“Mind jogging my memory?” Rael replied, pointing at his throat. “You see, after a minor incident, my memory became a little hazy.”
“Did it now?” Anastasia approached him with a skeptical look. “You confessed your feelings to me, and after I rejected you, you sent me an invite to your funeral.”
“…”
What the fuck? That’s both fucked up and funny. More fucked up than funny though… Content orıginally comes from NoveI-Fire.ɴet
Although Rael did try his best to hide his surprise, his lips still twitched slightly, which didn’t go unnoticed by Anastasia.
“We need to have a talk,” she said sternly, then turned to the other teammates. “Guard the walls so no monsters fly in like they did just now. I’ll be back soon.”
The teammates nodded and went to it. As for her, she glared at Rael and then gestured for him to follow her.
Did she find me out already? Rael wondered and followed after her. They walked into a narrow alleyway, and then she slammed him down against the wall, glaring at him fiercely.
“What are you doing inside my head?” Anastasia asked, causing the space around her to crack slightly.
He was going to play oblivious, but he already knew what he had gotten himself into.
“Anastasia, I believe you’re being manipulated,” Rael said plainly.
Right as she was about to lash out, he continued:
“Lucien can manipulate minds very well, and I’m not saying you’re weak… I just believe you have a soft spot for Lucien in your heart, which might or might not give him an opportunity to control you.”
“You’re wrong,” Anastasia replied. “I know my body and mind better than anyone else. Now, I’d really like it if you could get out of here. Now.”
Rael shook his head.
“I can’t do that. Since I’m here in this particular memory, that means I’m here for a reason. Whatever reason that may be, I believe I’ll only be able to find out if you don’t end this now.”
Anastasia’s expression worsened at his unreasonable request.
“In reality and even in my dreams… you continue to be unbelievable,” she said coldly. “This memory is a reminder of the day I lost all my friends. There’s nothing special about it, and the only reason your abilities put you here is because this memory reminds me of my vulnerabilities. Now… as I’ve already said, get out of here.”
She sent a punch at him, but he dodged, and to her surprise, Rael ran out of the alley like a rat.
Truth be told, her words did contain the truth, but he knew it wasn’t that simple. When he was involved in some deep shit, the shit was much deeper than it seemed.
The space cracked around him, slightly distorting the memory as Anastasia appeared, trying to strike him down.
But just then, the three teammates from the wall appeared beside them, causing Anastasia to halt her punch midway.
The blond archer raised his brow.
“You two are quarreling already? Did you make up?”
“She’s just mad at me for something I’ve not even done yet,” Rael replied with a shrug. “Honestly, you three should control Anastasia better. She’s like a rabid dog sometimes.”
The three teammates froze upon hearing that, and just then, a fierce slap sounded across his face, knocking him down onto the ground. Anastasia jumped on top of him and began pummeling his face, breaking his nose and practically trying to kill him.
Her eyes were cold, and as she raised her hand once more, the three teammates suddenly stepped in, grabbing her arm and pulling her away from him.
“S-Stop it,” the woman in a robe muttered. “Even if you don’t like him, don’t go around killing people, Anastasia. You promised us, didn’t you?”
“That’s right.” The archer nodded. “Let’s get a drink and prepare for the monster wave. The gargoyles earlier were just scouts, so I’m sure within an hour or two, we’ll have a whole army coming after the city of Coralia.”
With those words, he let go of Anastasia, as did the others.
“Instead of fighting amongst each other, let’s fight off the monsters so these people can live another day, yeah?”
Having said that, the three carefully stepped back, and after giving Anastasia and Rael one last glance, they went over to a nearby restaurant and ordered some food.
As for Rael and Anastasia, they remained on the ground silently.
Anastasia, because her mind was in distress.
Rael, because Anastasia beat the shit out of him.
I should’ve probably just fought back… Ugh… This weak body really isn’t my thing…
“Rael,” Anastasia called out, turning to him.
“This is the first time in a very long while that I was able to witness this memory in such high detail… So, while you are a vermin, I will allow you to stand by and let me experience what I must. However, Aurelius is dead. If you so much as move out of your lane, I will not hesitate to kill you.”
Rising from the ground, she dusted herself off while also glaring at him.
“Lucien is not controlling me. End of discussion. Now don’t get in my way.”
And finally, she left, returning to her friends.
Rael simply lay there on the ground, waiting for his injuries to heal. When they did, he stood up and stared at Aurelius’s teammates, including Anastasia.
He really didn’t know why she let him off the hook like that, but he would take whatever he could get.
And in the end, this actually worked out in his favor.
He would be able to observe everything from the sidelines without needing to do a thing. That would make it much easier for him to figure out what this dream was about in the first place.
Though…
She could’ve at least been a little more gentle.
