Chapter 571: The Ballroom
As he patiently waited, the five minutes were finally up.
Before he could react, his body was enveloped in a powerful energy, and not long after, his sight vanished.
However, he could still very well feel his body. He could even move, but one step was all it took to realize that he was no longer in his mansion.
Instead, he was someplace else.
“Don’t worry about the lack of sight, you’ll adjust shortly,” Kareth’s voice rang out. “Furthermore, I have prepared a few treats that you might like.”
“Is that so…” Rael sighed. “I take it that blinding the guest of honor is considered respectable from where you are from?”
“It’s hardly my fault you are too weak to withstand such a high-level dimensional shift,” Kareth replied plainly. “Furthermore, I am surprised you didn’t wish to bring along any of your people.”
Rael scoffed. “You know as well as I do what implications might arise if I bring those I care about. For now, it’s only me. As long as the problem still remains, it’ll always be me.”
Although he said it in a cryptic fashion, Kareth was no fool. He understood exactly what Rael meant, and yet, he didn’t comment on it.
Instead, he began to gather mana around himself, and then he walked ahead.
“Follow my mana. I will lead you to the main hall.”
With those words, he walked ahead. In the meantime, Rael expanded his Time Domain outward. Without directly activating it, he wouldn’t freeze time, but he would perfectly figure out the surroundings.
And as expected, wherever he was, was some kind of city. It resembled Solenne’s Silver City at first glance, but when he looked further ahead, he realized that whatever this place was, it mirrored the Silver City.
If a café shop was built on the left in the Silver City, here, it was built on the right. Even more so, the people present weren’t the lifeless dolls he was expecting but actually trained warriors.
They weren’t weak either. Each one was at least Grade 4, with the toughest being a Grade 6.
He just has gods walking around in his city, huh? Rael wondered. I guess I could have that too if I were to create a couple more constructs.
But for now, he was going to focus on the pleasantries first.
The main hall he was being led to was once again identical to Solenne’s, though this one was a little larger.
And so, when they finally entered through the main gate and stepped into the halls, Rael’s vision began to return. When it did, he saw Kareth walking with his back turned. For once, he had tidied up his hair and wore a suit.
Though, when Rael remembered that this was a succession ceremony, he knew that this amount of extravagance was justified.
“You seem a little bothered,” Kareth spoke. “Why? Do you not feel honored?”
“You ask that as if you’ve never met me before,” Rael replied.
“True.” Kareth chuckled. “While this may seem like a bother on the outside, it’s fairly rewarding. Not only will you get the trust of all the people in this land, but you’ll also be able to take the mantle as the Supreme Monster of Control. That is, if you wish to do so.”
“Mhm…” Rael nodded absentmindedly. “So why is it again that you’re passing this burden to me?”
Kareth tilted his head. “Didn’t I mention it last time?”
“You mentioned that you grew tired of it all. I don’t buy it,” Rael said. “Someone as ancient as you must have many other activities to do aside from ruling over the people.”
“Indeed.” Kareth smiled. “I do have many activities to do. However, I also have very little will to do them. What I need is a long break to calm my mind and my thoughts. Perhaps, at the end of my seclusion, I will be able to find the spark that had vanished.”
Not getting into it further, Kareth suddenly halted. Just then, Rael realized that they had already reached the end of the hallway, and before them was a large door. Typically, this door would lead to an armory if it were the Silver Palace.
But when Kareth calmly pushed the door open, what he saw wasn’t an armory but a massive ballroom. Beings of all levels of power were gathered. The weak and the strong. Even the abnormally strong Grade 7 beings were present.
Albeit, from the way they were dressed and by the people they were talking to, Rael knew that this entire ceremony was nothing but a political ploy for those who wanted to gain even more power.
Still… I’ve already dealt with my fair share of politics in other worlds. I really don’t want to deal in politics when there are such powerful beings involved. Thᴇ link to the origɪn of this information rᴇsts ɪn novèlfire.net
After all, even if Rael’s strength had grown significantly, he was certain he wouldn’t be able to defeat a Grade 7 just yet. But a Grade 6 was definitely not off the table.
Still, when the doors swung open fully, the ballroom fell silent. Each of the important and powerful beings halted, turning their gazes toward him.
For the first second, they were all curious. Who could the new successor be?
But when a second had passed and they realized the extent of his powers, they abruptly began trying to check his power.
<Ding!>
Obviously, they didn’t succeed, but it was almost as if that fact made them that much angrier.
“Who does this brat think he is?”
“Hiding his power when he has such an esteemed role…”
“Foolish!”
But as the murmurs began to grow even more violent, Kareth suddenly clapped his hands, causing everyone to fall silent.
“That’s enough.”
He turned to each being.
“I’ve invited you to congratulate him, not to berate him. Those who wish to fumble around like baboons tied to their old ways may leave this castle and never return,” he said, narrowing his eyes.
“This is my final warning, so if you feel incapable of basic understanding… get out of my sight now.”
