Chapter 467: Feather, Deception, and Disappointment?
“Rewards? Right… Rewards…” Vatyra grumbled, and then raised her right arm.
Feathers covered her right arm in an instant as she reached over and plucked a single one. Then, she stepped forward and held the feather out with great reluctance.
“Take it.”
Rael stared at it for a moment, then tilted his head.
“Do I eat it…?”
Vatyra’s eyes widened. “E-Eat it? Are you insane? Dragon-piss brain… No… Calm down…”
She took several deep breaths, but the red flames still escaped her body, slightly burning the ground.
“You don’t eat it,” Vatyra said, narrowing her eyes. “You will sit down and absorb the feather… Stupid dragon. Have you never absorbed a treasure before?”
“Nope. I’m still pretty young,” Rael replied with a hum. “So how do I absorb it? Do I guide the feather’s mana toward my heart or something?”
“…”
“That’s the gist of it.”
Rael sighed. “I feel like you could’ve told me that instead. But thanks anyway.”
With that, Rael snatched the feather from her hands and stashed it in his inventory for the time being.
Sure, rebirth was fun and all, but he didn’t want to waste it against these people.
After all… Who’s to say that after I revive, they wouldn’t just kill me again?
Basically, on the off chance he did survive, the rebirth had more value if he used it later.
“You still have your footwork to give me,” Rael reminded her.
Vatyra’s brows twitched. “I can’t just pass it down to you. I’ll need to teach you personally.”
She glanced around with a slight smirk. “But as you can see… We can’t really do that now, can we?”
Rael rolled his eyes at her actions. She was betting on the fact that he would die against the other monsters so she wouldn’t need to teach him anything.
“Since you’re delaying it, I’ll take your skill with interest,” Rael said bluntly.
Before she could lash out at him, he pointed at Chronos.
“Can I fight you next?”
“Hahaha!” Vatyra burst out laughing. “Never mind. I was going to call you a stupid dragon, but I’m promoting you to idiot dragon!”
Having said that, she walked over to her seat and sat down, crossing her legs with a smirk.
[God… Put a muzzle on that stupid bird,] Burger chimed in, his voice clearly exhausted. [Talking… Talking… She keeps talking over and over… AAAAAAAAAAAAH!]
Rael heard something smash inside his mind, as if Burger had begun tossing furniture. That made Rael realize that maybe Burger was doing a bit more with his money than just buying food.
But he could agree. The phoenix was very annoying.
Despite that, he approached Chronos, who had an extremely faint smile on his face, then spoke.
“So what do you say? Want to put anything on the line?” Rael asked.
Chronos smiled. “I sense the power of time within you. I will not face you as Vatyra had done. I don’t believe in such shallow combat tactics, after all.”
“Then…?”
“I want you to use the power of time on me. But I also want you to try to escape from my own powers,” Chronos replied. “Death is a feeble concept, as I believe there is far greater suffering in eternity.”
“I won’t kill you, but if you don’t manage to escape from my time abilities, you will be frozen for all of eternity. Do you still wish to fight me?”
“Yep,” Rael agreed right away.
It didn’t seem as difficult as Vatyra’s duel, but he knew that time was really going to bite him in the ass. However, he was confident that no matter what happened, he could eventually escape.
Therefore…
“Very well. Since the battle won’t involve any direct killing, and you’re treating this as more of a trial, I’ll let you start whenever you want,” Kareth said, and walked away, sitting down beside Evelyn.
As for Chronos and Rael, they stared at each other for a few moments, and only now did Rael realize that the previously split-open continent and arena had been repaired.
Better yet, he wasn’t even sure when that had happened.
More than that, Chronos seemed extremely mysterious. Even when Rael stood in front of him, he couldn’t feel his mana or his presence.
“When do you wish to start?” Chronos asked.
“Now is fine…” Rael trailed off. “So, uh… What do you want me to do? Cast my time skill?”
Chronos nodded slowly. “I can sense two variations. One is control, the other is attack. I want you to use the control variation. I’m immune to time attacks.”
Immune to time attacks? Rael raised a brow. That sounds a little broken… but I guess he is the Monarch of Time for a reason.
Rael turned toward his skills, and soon enough, he found the skill Chronos was talking about.
Temporal Stasis (Transcendent):
Freeze an opponent in time for 5 seconds. Doesn’t work on enemies stronger than you.
Cost: 15 Trillion MTP | Cooldown: 60 minutes.
It doesn’t work on enemies stronger than me, so this is probably going to be a complete disappointment, Rael thought with a sigh.
He could try to replicate the same thing he had done with Blood Blade and Draconic Neuroweb, but his mana was running a little low. After all, it still hadn’t fully recovered from when Burger used it to engrave the Fate Affinity into his Dragon Heart.
But for a single cast of this skill, it was more than enough.
He paid close attention to Chronos, and in the next instant, he activated the skill, draining nearly all of his mana in an instant.
[MTP -15 Trillion | 2.539 Trillion / 24.744 Trillion [+2.495 Trillion Excess] (x1 Temporal Stasis)]
The skill was completely invisible, however, Rael was able to see a faint golden-white outline pulsating out from his body and slowly heading toward the nonchalant Chronos.
Soon enough, it completely enveloped Chronos, as if binding to his body.
However, no matter how many seconds passed, Chronos didn’t show any reaction. In fact, Rael thought the skill might’ve somehow worked.
However…
“Hmm…”
“Is that it?”
