Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster

Chapter 405: Arrival

Chapter 405: Arrival

Kareth fell silent. However, from the subtle mana around him, it was clear he had taken Rael’s words seriously.

As for why Rael was telling him in the first place? Well, it was simple.

I don’t see him as my enemy. Frankly, I believe every ruler of the Depths is at least partially on my side, Rael thought with a smile. Plus, if I can get him to remember, then I can make my time here much simpler.

But alas, it wouldn’t be that easy.

“Hmm… I can’t say I recall ever meeting you,” Kareth said, then raised a single finger. “However, there is one instance of me using my arena on a lower world. One of the candidates was Reinhardt Ashavir. He seemed pretty promising. As for the other candidate… I can’t see their name, nor can I remember what they looked like.”

“It was me,” Rael replied. “I was the second fighter, Rael Sutekh.”

“Rael Sutekh, huh?” Kareth repeated, rubbing his temples. “While I can’t seem to directly remember you, that name does ring a bell… I will call Evelyn to sort it out. Do you know who she is?”

“The Ancient Mindweaver Evelyn?” Rael said. “Yeah. I know who she is.”

Kareth sighed, his brows creasing further. “Fucking damn it. I built up my mental resistance throughout so many years, so how was I affected? Tsk… I need to get some new skills.”

Rael chuckled. “If it makes you feel any better, you weren’t the only one to be affected. Every single person I used to know was affected.”

Of course, Kareth was not a normal person. He was a Grade 8 Tyrant Class being who could probably destroy an entire planet with a flick of his finger.

So whatever higher power tinkered with his memories must definitely be stronger.

I wonder what my abilities are really connected to? No way it’s just the Supreme Beast.

Anyhow…

“I can’t contact Alune or Zarkul at the moment since they’re exploring a new continent,” Kareth said. “They should be done in a couple of months, but until then, I will reach out to Evelyn and get her to fix my memories.”

He suddenly turned around, a faint frown on his face.

“Just because I used to know you doesn’t make us close. This Hollow Throne succession will determine who becomes my successor, and you will need to do some remarkable things if you wish to be considered.”

“Sure. Don’t worry. Just prepare something to teach me after I’m done,” Rael replied with a smirk.

Kareth’s brows twitched. “I’ll be back soon enough. Don’t get killed.”

With those parting words, he vanished from sight.

Rael stared at the empty space for a few moments, then swiftly ran toward the capital, Indra, arriving in less than a few seconds.

It had towering spires that twisted into narrow paths between the high-rise buildings. There were flying carriages, and from the transparent dome that surrounded the capital, he was sure that it was blocking off the crimson moon from infecting the people below.

Rael glanced up, staring at the moon for a few seconds. Sadly, he wasn’t being infected, which meant that his resistance to such infections was simply too high.

But aside from that, the streets were as lively as he would expect, yet they were especially lively now since the candidates were swarming them.

Some were pretty civil as they carefully navigated the streets, entering inns for drinks or rest. But there were also a couple of candidates who weren’t as smart.

A fight broke out in the center of the city between two brawlers.

There was a single statue of a long-haired man made fully out of steel, and from the looks of things, that man was Kareth.

Yet when the fight broke out, the statue was quickly split in two as the candidates clashed, thrashing the lively streets.

But as they were about to crush an innocent child, two people wearing completely white armor appeared out of nowhere and grabbed the two men by their throats.

Rael watched the squabble unfold in amusement.

However, instead of taking those two men to jail, the guards snapped their necks, killing them in an instant.

“Oh… That was a bit anticlimactic.”

As he was about to take his gaze away from the two dead brawlers, he suddenly saw their hands twitch.

They stood up lifelessly, and not even a moment later, thin white strands shot out of their eyes, slowly covering their entire bodies. Eventually, they wore an armor set identical to the one worn by the people who had snapped their necks. Shortly after, the four white knights walked away, not uttering a single word.

“…”

What just happened?

[They were killed and then turned into puppets,] Burger said matter-of-factly. [It’s very likely that everyone who dies serves the Hollow King after their deaths as his hollow puppets. Sounds pretty fancy, right?]

Rael nodded. Way too fancy. But it almost seems like a curse, doesn’t it?

[Eh, who cares,] Burger replied flatly. [Tsk… just seeing that smug look on your face after you got that Law is making me want to punch you.]

Before Rael could reply, Burger continued.

[Also, buy the new race already. And awaken the damn dragon heart. You’re being so overly cautious for nothing,] Burger said in a stern tone. [Oh, and before you try to bullshit me, I just want you to remember you have the Premium Shop. Buy a disguise skill. There are plenty that can hide Dragon Force. As for your race, no one will notice.]

He was going to tell Burger how stupid of an idea it was, but honestly? It really wasn’t that bad.

Therefore, Rael gave in.

Fine… I’ll do that in a bit. Let me finish this trial first.

With that, he took a step forward, walking through the barrier.

And at the same time, the pop-ups he was waiting for appeared.

He was done, but at the same time, he was slightly puzzled.

Why was this trial called the Trial of Brilliance? What was brilliant about getting from point A to point B?

Suddenly, Rael spotted a small group marching from the south. It was clearly an envoy, but at the forefront, there was a single golden-haired man leading them.

Rael narrowed his eyes, and soon, he recognized the man. He was one of the candidates who were transported alongside him.

And since he was leading an envoy into Indra, it was clear that the true purpose of this trial was not that straightforward.

But it was fine, after all…

There’s no way that guy managed to understand the politics and all of that boring stuff between the kingdoms in under a week…

Right?
