Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 899: Interception

Or rather, he was recognized. And the person who recognized him was exactly that young first-rank wizard who had gone to Kema’s border to receive Gorsa nearly a month ago.

The young wizard’s expression froze, then turned bitter.

When the mission failed and he returned, the leading court wizard had been quite surprised that Gorsa hadn’t killed him.

The young wizard felt cold in his heart, but was also grateful to have recovered his life.

The leading wizard, however, seemed quite happy, apparently thinking Gorsa’s strength had declined, which was why he spared the young wizard to avoid others noticing anything.

The leader hurriedly returned to report, but left the young wizard at the capital gate to continue receiving Gorsa.

The excuse was still “You’ve already met Gorsa, so sending you to receive him at the city gate is more suitable than anyone else.”

The young wizard had returned to the capital and waited nearly a month without Gorsa arriving. He secretly hoped the other wouldn’t come at all.

As a result, this wish had just been born and was still fresh when he looked up and saw Gorsa wrapped in a gray cloak.

Although half the other’s face was blocked by shadow, the current Gorsa wasn’t completely concealing his identity. That unique aura around him made the young wizard unable to forget after seeing it once.

So although the young wizard felt uneasy, he still approached and pulled Gorsa, who was obediently queuing at the city gate, aside.

“Lord Gorsa, we’ve been waiting respectfully for a long time. Are you now…” The young wizard looked up at the man whose half face was covered by a hood, gulped, “willing to take a carriage to the castle now?”

Gorsa tapped the ground outside the city gate with his wooden staff, making small “thud thud thud” sounds.

“Let’s get in the carriage.” His voice carried laughter, though it was unclear whether he was laughing at the young wizard or someone else.

Seeing that Gorsa was actually willing to cooperate obediently this time, whether it was the young wizard or the other tensed soldiers behind the city gate, all breathed a sigh of relief.

Especially the soldiers – watching the carriage carrying Gorsa and the young wizard leave was like receiving new life.

However, just as they were about to continue guarding the city gate, the leader suddenly received a message from the court wizard.

“Close the city gates. No entry or exit today!”

The leading soldier looked at this message with even more shock than when he had been told to receive a third-rank wizard at the city gate.

“Boss, what do we do? There are still many people outside wanting to enter the city.” A soldier asked anxiously.

The leader “smacked” the back of the other’s head. “What are you standing around for? Close the gates! No one is allowed through!”

Kema Duchy closed its doors to welcome guests, while the Tribunal intercepted people midway!

The low-key carriage carrying Saul and Byron had just emerged from another exit of the Borderland when two suddenly appearing wizards blocked their path.

One was tall, one short.

The tall one was almost three meters high, with blue-gray skin and angular limbs that looked more like stone than human.

The short one was just over half a meter tall – probably a rare halfling.

One transformed from roadside stones, the other jumped down from a bird’s nest overhead, directly blocking in front of the carriage and producing a token.

Purge Order.

The coachman driving for Saul was a straw puppet that looked human on the surface but lacked complete intelligence. Seeing people blocking the way ahead, he had no intention of stopping.

However, Saul, who had been paying attention to outside movements, immediately discovered the two wizards and controlled the puppet technique to stop.

Byron swept his mental power outward and immediately found the two outside were undetectable. He looked at Saul with surprise and concern. “There are two third-rank wizards outside!”

“Really keeping close watch.” Saul snorted coldly and no longer hid, directly emerging from the carriage.

He looked at the two third-rank wizards blocking the carriage, frowning as he asked, “You two are Tribunal wizards. I didn’t see you last time in Evernight.”

His gaze swept over the black Purge Order. “Holding a Purge Order – do you want to kill me?”

When saying the word “kill,” Saul’s face had already turned ice-cold, both hands faintly transparent and beginning to change shape.

The two third-rank wizards exchanged glances, faces unchanged.

They did want to compete with Saul, this third-rank wizard who had gained fame at such a young age, but now wasn’t the time. No one dared touch Frim’s guest.

“You misunderstand.” The short wizard spoke first, his voice strangely like a parrot mimicking speech. “The Purge Order is only to prove our identity. We came hoping you could return to Evernight once more.”

“The Storm Eye in the Borderland hasn’t been eliminated yet. It’s not convenient to go so far now.” Saul’s expression didn’t change.

The tall rock-like third-rank wizard immediately rumbled in refutation, “You’ve already left the Borderland.”

“My friend is in danger, I’m going to rescue them. And that place isn’t far from the Borderland. With my abilities, as long as I discover risk, I can quickly return.” Saul spoke righteously.

“Is that so?” The short wizard suddenly turned his gaze to Byron, who hadn’t yet emerged from the carriage. “Then let’s first invite your companion to the Tribunal.”

Saul’s brow furrowed, but he didn’t appear too panicked. “Chief Frim is looking for me. What use is calling him? He’s just one of my subordinates.”

“Hehe, that’s not right. Although we haven’t entered the Borderland, we understand the people around you quite well. For example, this Byron wizard, and a wizard named Keli – they should both be good friends you made in your youth. You’re going out now to help the wizard Keli in Kema Duchy, right?”

Saul’s interpersonal relationships weren’t secret. With the Tribunal’s power, they could easily investigate.

Saul was just thinking about what these people meant by bringing this up now.

“Since you know I’m going to help a friend…”

“The Tribunal can ensure Wizard Keli’s safety. After you head to Evernight, we believe you’ll see her soon.” The source of thɪs content is NoveIFire.net

This actually meant they wanted to bring Keli over too?

Was this Frim’s original intention, or were the two wizards making this up on the spot to threaten him?

If it was the latter, that was fine. If the former, Saul would have to consider whether Frim already knew about their inertization experiments.

Although they were very secretive every time they experimented, and experiments requiring only magic crystal functions had already been moved to the Chaos Realm, through the magical resources they purchased and waste produced, it was possible to discover what kind of experiments they were conducting.

Also, they seemed very clear about Keli’s information. Did they know what Keli was doing in Kema Duchy? The source of this content ɪs novel fire.net

If they were very clear about even this matter, Saul could basically confirm that the Kema Duchy situation was also related to the Tribunal.

Yura – had she already sided with Frim?

But wasn’t Frim opposed to low-rank wizard resurrection plans? Why would he cooperate with Yura?

Saul’s thoughts raced while his face only became rigid. “Hmph, you two third-rank wizards came specifically to invite me – I’m not allowed to refuse, am I?”

The short wizard smiled with a gaping mouth. “What wizard can refuse the Tribunal?”

“Then I’ll go alone. Byron stays in the Borderland to continue investigating the Storm Eye situation.” Saul was testing.

The two wizards hesitated a moment. They exchanged glances again, then the giant rock-like wizard suddenly said harshly: “No!”

The short wizard wore an unpleasant smile. “Being able to accompany you out suggests he’s not weak either. Let’s go to Nephret together. Don’t worry, Nephret’s travel speed isn’t slow either. Even if a Storm Eye really occurs later, we’ll send you back before it fully erupts.”

Saul looked back at Byron. The latter’s expression showed no change, and when meeting Saul’s gaze, he had a “wherever you point, I’ll strike” appearance.

After turning back, Saul looked again toward the distance – the direction where Kema’s capital was located.

“Fine, Byron and I will go back with you. But you must send people to protect Keli.”

Saul’s voice was tinged with bitterness.

However, Byron sitting behind Saul was somewhat puzzled. He lowered his head, hiding his gaze and expression.

For some reason, he always felt that Saul… wasn’t surprised!
