Chapter 638: Before the Battle

In a “temporary command post”, which was constructed by several high-tier Pets, not far away from Camp Edgar, the five Clan Leaders and the Field Commanders of the Fallen Angels League had all gathered to hold a meeting to discuss establishing defense lines around Camp Edgar.

Deactivated his disguise, Qin Ruo stood before everyone who was in the command post. Several dozen Fallen Angels immediately stood up from the ground, standing on the backs of their pets, when they saw their League Leader appearing before them…

“League Leader!”

“Clan Leader!”

Loud greetings thundered in the command post.

The ones who were not from the Fallen Angels Clan—the ones from the other four Clans in the League—were visibly quite excited to finally meet the fabled “Winter Demon”. This was the man who led the Number One League in the Angel Faction, who had beaten the third level of Mythical Mirage, and the Grand Champion of the Grand Tournament—Qin Ruo! To them, he was both tremendously powerful and mysterious!

“Has everyone arrived?” Qin Ruo asked after nodding at his Fallen Angels.

“They’ve arrived for quite some time now. Everyone’s waiting for you.”

“Little Ruo, the surrounding areas are now secured. Each Clan will guard the four corners of Camp Edgar. The Ascendant Saber will take care of the area behind the camp with the hill. The other three sides will be handled by us—the Bauhinia Clan, Violent Army Clan, and the Executors. As for the main clan, the Fallen Angels, you guys will stay in the middle. So, if anything goes wrong, you guys can provide support immediately! Anything you’d like to add?” Violet Orchid was quick to bring Qin Ruo up to speed with the current situation.

After hearing this, Qin Ruo nodded.

‘Having the weakest Ascendant Saber to guard the safest side of the camp while having the Fallen Angels to provide support, huh? This is a good arrangement…’

“No, the plan’s great. How many members of the five Clans are here?”

“We, the Ascendant Saber, have about 6,700 Tier 5 members online at the moment. There are 1,000 members on their way…” Slash quickly answered.

And then, Remorseless Warrior, Dinosaurcerer, Violet Orchid, and Xiaoxiao too subsequently reported each Clan’s attendance.

Other than the Fallen Angels, Bauhinia and Violent Army Clan still had around 1,000 men carrying out a different missions at the Dark Flame Valley; the other members were all present!

They only had to wait for another ten minutes. Then, the Summoners could teleport every single one of these Tier 5 stragglers to Camp Edgar.

It would take a little time to set the Teleportation Seal and construction materials in place. So, Qin Ruo decided that it was time to initiate Project Pioneer.

After pondering for a bit, Qin Ruo ordered the leaders of the Five Clans to break up their Tier 5 members into three groups so that they could take turns to guard the camp. Each guard’s shift would be four hours. And they were expected to keep up with their guard duties for a total of seven days.

“Acknowledged. Sending the orders right away.”

“Good!”

As he replied, Qin Ruo took out the Teleportation Seal from his backpack and, as everyone looked on anxiously, bent his knee to slowly punch the 20-billion-gold-coin hexagon rock into the ground.

Then, Violet Orchid quickly waved to the other Clan Leaders and Field Commanders.

“Everyone, stand back a little.”

***

Vroooom!!!

As tens of thousands of Fallen Angels were excitedly discussing the three-shift guard duties, suddenly a strong tremor was felt in the ground.

Even though it wasn’t as strong as a full on earthquake, everyone could feel that something huge was about to happen. Therefore, they all stopped their tasks at hand and simultaneously looked at the source of the tremor all at the same time.

Even the three Demigod NPCs too felt the powerful Mana shockwave. Standing in the middle of Camp Edgar that was concealed by their barrier, they anxiously looked up and observed for any changes in the sky.

After the Teleportation Seal was injected with some Mana, the ground started to shake as the seal became heavier and heavier, descending deeper and deeper into the soil as though it was a heavy mountain that was slowly planting itself into the ground.

Huge black arcane runes repeatedly flashed before everyone’s eyes as a powerful surge of Mana gushed out of the Teleportation Seal.

Then, the ground in the area quickly harden up and turned smooth as a pebble. It almost felt like the entire area was terraformed by high-tier Terramancers—the original dirt soiled ground suddenly turned into granite. The granite ground expanded outward like a massive tidal wave from the Teleportation Seal in all directions.

Qin Ruo, the Clan Leaders, and Field Commanders were the first ones to have felt this sudden change in the ground. They looked on in awe as countless black arcane runes gushed out of the granite ground again and again. They couldn’t believe their eyes—that a small tiny rock could harness this much Mana and powerful magic.

It was no wonder that this “rock” cost twenty billion gold coins!

As a huge Warp Portal emerged outside of Camp Edgar, seemingly out of thin air, countless members of the Fallen Angels League couldn’t help but gawk in surprise. However, they couldn’t head out to check out the anomaly—their Clan Leaders had strictly ordered them to never leave the stations that they were assigned to. Therefore, no one dared to leave Camp Edgar. They could only stare at the Warp Portal from afar.

Booom!!!

After the black arcane runes had completely covered the Warp Portal, a tiny ray of light beamed out of the Warp Portal.

Immediately after that, a lone silhouette appeared next to Qin Ruo.

It was an old man.

Although he didn’t have a hunched back, the wrinkles on the old man’s face spoke volumes of his seniority, showing that he had weathered the harsh Mythical Continent for many, many years. Despite that, vigor still beamed strongly in his eyes.

Looking at the massive crowd at Camp Edgar, the elderly Portal Handler covered his mouth and nose coughed softly. Then, he turned to Qin Ruo. “Ahem… ahem… Project Pioneer has commenced! The artisans are standing by!”

“When the city is being constructed, this area will be attacked by the Underworld’s specters. The Warp Portal must not be destroyed within this seven-day period!”

“During the city’s construction, the Warp Portal is only allowed for one-way teleportations… so, if the Warp Portal is destroyed, the artisans can’t get back to the Mythical Continent. If they can’t get back home, they will not be willing to build your city for you. As a result, your Project Pioneer will fail. Understand?”

“Yes.”

Qin Ruo nodded.

“…”

After hearing Qin Ruo’s reply, the old Portal Handler stopped talking and closed his eyes. Slowly, he started to merge himself with the Warp Portal.

***

“Look!”

“The specters are looking this way!”

“Be careful, everyone! Get ready for combat!”

In the sky above Camp Edgar were swarms of small black dots flying swiftly toward the camp. The black dots were multiplying by the minutes, alerting the Fallen Angels’ Bowmasters.

There were some specters roaming in an area not far away from Camp Edgar. They were out of range from the players and the camp so no combat was initiated. However, right after the Teleportation Seal was activated, the specters’ hollow eyes gave a red bloody glare, as if they have detected something. They then started to rush toward the camp without hesitation.

Pssst poooow!!!!

A dozen lightning shot from the sky.

A shadowy Phantom Skeleton climbed out of a black ashen swamp after disengaging from Stealth mode. In an instant, it was struck by the violet lightning. It was turned to ash before it was able to land its Windblades and other magic attacks on any target.

At the meantime, battles had also started in other areas too…

As the Terramancers hurled out Quagmires at the enemies, the Elementalists and the other fellow Fallen Angels also flung their charged-up magic attacks at the oncoming enemies when they had gotten close enough.

Hundreds and hundreds of specters were getting bombarded from all sides as they were trapped inside the Quagmires, like getting crushed by a meat grinder, slowly and agonizingly.

***

Outside the line of defense, thunder rumbled as the whooshing of Windblades and Mana Shockwave were felt from all sides. Even though there were more and more “black dots” flocking toward them, the players’ morale at Camp Edgar grew stronger by the minute…

Tens of thousands of Fallen Angels was now fully and autonomously engaged in a battle!

***

Qin Ruo felt so lucky after seeing this.

If he hadn’t made any preparation and had hastily activated the Teleportation Seal alone, trying to use the Warp Portal to transport his troops into the Underworld, Project Pioneer would have failed abysmally.

‘Oh, thank god!’

As Qin Ruo was relenting in his good fortune, the old Portal Handler was also entering the final phase on the Warp Portal.

Vooom Voooom!

A powerful surge of Mana buzzed out of the huge Warp Portal, trembling everything within in the fifty meter-radius area. Then, a blinding white light flashed before everyone’s eyes.

In a blink of an eye, countless people emerged in front of Qin Ruo.

“Ahem… ahem…”

The Portal Handler had merely operated the Warp Portal once and now he had started to cough profusely again. Qin Ruo couldn’t help but suspect that Warrior of Endless Battle purposely sent a dying old fart to join their adventures.

Nonetheless, he was still quite skillful.

In just one round of teleportation, the old Portal Handler could transport at least 500 men into the Underworld–a rather impressive feat indeed.

“Alright… let’s get to work.”

The Portal Handler spoke with his old hoarse voice.

“Centering around the Warp Portal… seven days…”

In the next second, 500 Artisan NPCs started to walk down from the Warp Portal, whipping out tools from their belts while walking to the empty spaces nearby. In just minutes, they’d started to dig the ground to construct the foundations for the city’s buildings.

“I’ve already sent all the lads here. From now on, if you’ve got any more requests or there’s anyone you want to transport to the Underworld, you can tell me their names or Clans’ names,” said the Old Portal Handler.

Calling for backup?

So far, Qin Ruo didn’t really need them.

Then, something struck his mind. Qin Ruo quickly stretched out his snowy Angelic Wings and ascended into the air. Looking at his League members below, he could see a huge horde of specters approaching the teams that were battling outside the defense line. Qin Ruo inhaled deeply and bellowed loudly, “Rise, flying squads!”

As soon as his orders were heard, several dozens of flying pets rose up to the sky, carrying their masters on their backs. There were also Summoners who had fused with monsters, flapping their wings and swooshing up to the sky.

Colorful bright barriers started to form as countless Skeleton Dragons and Vampires swarmed over!
