Li Jiangping, an Elder of Hidden Night Sect was actually shot flying by a single arrow! Just how terrifying must such force be?

The swordsman furrowed his brows and said to the four subordinates with him, “Go, attack!”

The four of them drew their long swords and used their qinggong skills to leap toward Gu Jiao.

Gu Jiao released three arrows at once, so fast that it was beyond comprehension, carrying with them a sound of tearing through the air as if crushing dry weeds and smashing rotten wood, shooting straight into the hearts of three swordsmen.

The three men did not even have the chance to fight back before letting out a scream and falling down dead.

The last swordsman froze when he saw his three companions fall in unison to such a cruel death.

And in just that instant of hesitation, the Black Wind King had already reached him, and Gu Jiao drew the red-tasseled spear from her back with a backward motion, thrusting once and pinning him against a tree not far away!

Blood spilled from the corner of his mouth, his head tilted to the side, and he breathed no more.

The swordsman’s brow twitched violently, unable to believe what he was seeing.

In a flash of lightning, an image appeared in his mind, “I know who you are now! You are Duke An’s adopted daughter! The commander of the Black Wind Cavalry! Should I call you Xiao Liulang, or should I call you Young Madame?”

Truth be told, when he heard that the commander of the Black Wind Cavalry who had killed Gongsun Yu was actually a woman, he was more shocked than if he had seen a ghost!

Aside from the former Lord of the Shadows back in the day, he never imagined there could be a second woman this formidable!

Yes, the first Lord of the Shadows had been a woman. This was a secret perhaps even the people of the Shadow Division did not know, but the master of their Sword Lodge had dealt with her personally.

The Black Wind King stopped at a distance of ten steps away from him. If not for Duke An still being inside the carriage, it would have already charged straight forward without hesitation.

Gu Jiao held the reins in one hand and leveled the red-tasseled spear coldly at him with the other. “Release my adopted father, and I will let you keep your body whole.”

The swordsman sneered. “Release him only to remain a corpse? Ha! Girl! What audacity you have in your tone!”

Sitting high on horseback, Gu Jiao looked down at him. “It seems you will not choose, very well.”

The swordsman gave a cold laugh. “You don’t really think you alone can kill me, do you? Although I admit your martial arts are far stronger than I had imagined, you are still not my match!”

“Noisy.” Gu Jiao enunciated each syllable, then leapt down from her horse. Her spear flashed like a rainbow as she fiercely thrust toward the swordsman.

The swordsman drew his sword to block, but he underestimated Gu Jiao’s strength and also underestimated the sharpness of the red-tasseled spear.

His sword was forcibly broken, and even his arm went numb.

He staggered back several steps, staring at Gu Jiao in disbelief.

To be honest, Gu Jiao was surprised as well. Since the war, she had not fought a proper duel. The swordsman was the first true opponent she had faced, although… his strength was somewhat lacking.

The swordsman threw aside his broken sword and drew another from beneath the carriage, but unsurprisingly, it was also cut in two by a single strike from Gu Jiao’s spear!

He finally realized he had kicked an iron wall and tried to retreat, but Gu Jiao gave him no chance. With one swing of her spear, she cut off his head.

He saw with his own eyes his body growing farther and farther away, the world spinning, dust filling his nose and mouth——

And then, nothing more.

“Adopted father!”

Gu Jiao hurriedly lifted the carriage curtain.

But she caught only emptiness; there was not a single figure inside!

Looking carefully, she realized that while she had been dueling with the swordsman, another expert had taken advantage of the moment to slip in and spirit Duke An away through the back door of the carriage.

She looked up at the sky. “Little Nine!”

Little Nine spread its wings and gave chase.

Gu Jiao also mounted her horse, following the sound of the eagle’s cry, galloping into the night.

……

There was no horse in the world faster than the Black Wind King. By the time Xiao Heng and Shangguan Qing arrived at the ferry, there was no trace of Gu Jiao or Duke An anymore, only several corpses lying on the ground, among them a headless one.

Shangguan Qing frowned. “After chasing this far, did we still lose them?”

Xiao Heng’s sharp gaze swept over the surroundings, and he said warily, “There’s someone in the water!”

The accompanying shadow guards plunged into the water and pulled up Li Jiangping, who had been struck by an arrow.

Li Jiangping still had one last breath left in him.

“Who’s this guy?” Shangguan Qing asked. When Li Jiangping had come to the residence, he happened to be out taking Jing Kong with him, so he had never met Li Jiangping face to face.

Xiao Heng replied, “Li Jiangping.”

“So he’s that traitor from Hidden Night Sect?” Shangguan Qing crouched down and checked the arrow lodged in his chest. “This is JiaoJiao’s arrow.”

Xiao Heng stepped forward and looked coldly at the dying Li Jiangping. “Where did JiaoJiao and Duke An go?”

Li Jiangping refused to speak at first, so Xiao Heng directly ordered someone to chop off his finger.

Shangguan Qing clicked his tongue. No way, was his bratty younger brother really this ruthless?

Expressionless, Xiao Heng said, “If you still don’t speak, I’ll cut off your ears, nose, and mouth, then feed them to you.”

Shangguan Qing: Damn!

Today was a day his bratty younger brother refreshed his entire view of him!

In the end, Li Jiangping could not withstand the torture and confessed.

“East… three li away… there’s the Hidden Sword Manor, the Sword Lodge people… should be there…”

Hidden Sword Manor was a small sect near the State of Zhao’s capital. When Sword Lodge came here, they needed a place to hide, so they invaded Hidden Sword Manor.

According to plan, Li Jiangping and the swordsman were to take Duke An on board first, while Sword Lodge people stayed behind to cover them, ensuring that no expert could catch up.

But now that things had gone awry, the plan was disrupted, and no one knew whether Sword Lodge would choose to board from another ferry crossing.

“How many people in total?” Xiao Heng asked.

Li Jiangping weakly replied, “The Sect Leader… four Elders… eight Protectors… and some disciples… I don’t know the exact number…”

Xiao Heng paused, then asked, “How does their strength compare with Shi Tian?”

Li Jiangping thought for a moment. “Shi Tian… I’ve never met…”

Xiao Heng considered and changed the name. “Then, An Hun.”

Li Jiangping said, “An Hun… is the Sect Leader’s personally taught disciple… his strength… is comparable to a Protector…”

Eight Protectors meant eight An Hun.

Xiao Heng clenched his fists unconsciously. The situation did not look good.

“And the Elders?” He asked again.

Li Jiangping said, “The Elders’ strength… is above that of the Protectors…”

Shangguan Qing’s expression also grew grim. With so many experts, if JiaoJiao really forced her way through, her chances of survival were slim.

Xiao Heng pressed on, speaking faster now. “Why did you capture Duke An?”

Li Jiangping said, “For… for that… medicine chest…”

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
