Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Amid the boisterous cheers of the menfolk, Xiao Heng took Gu Jiao’s hand and led her to the Princess Mansion.

Princess Xinyang had carefully renovated the Lanting Courtyard, the one with the finest view, as the newlyweds’ residence after their wedding.

The red silk laid out on the ground had stretched unbroken from the entrance of the estate all the way here. Even when Princess Xinyang herself had married Marquis Xuanping, the ceremony had not been this grand.

That was mainly because, at the time, Princess Xinyang had refused to allow the red silk to be spread inside.

Now, however, for the sake of her son and daughter-in-law, the two residences had been practically joined together. It was the closest the two households had been in the past twenty years.

“Be careful.” Xiao Heng softly reminded Gu Jiao when they reached the threshold of the courtyard.

Gu Jiao gave a quiet hum in acknowledgment and lifted her foot to step across.

The bridal veil was of such fine quality that there was no way to see through it; she could only walk carefully with Xiao Heng’s reminders.

It was still early in the day, and the peonies and crabapple blossoms in the courtyard vied in splendor beneath the sunlight, filling the garden with fragrance.

The servants lined up on either side all saluted the couple as they passed.

Yu Ya’er followed behind them, carrying Gu Jiao’s little medicine chest. Today was Gu Jiao and Xiao Heng’s joyous wedding day, and even the Black Wind King had been made to wear a big red flower. Naturally, the little medicine chest could not be left out.

Today, it was a festive little medicine chest as well!

The little medicine chest was quiet as a chick in Yu Ya’er’s arms, yet her own heart was far from calm.

“Wow, this is so big…”

She could not tell the difference between the Marquis Estate and the Princess Mansion; she only felt that they had been walking for a very long time, yet still had not arrived!

And this residence was simply far too beautiful!

“The rockery looks just like the real thing…” Without realizing it, she had spoken her thoughts aloud.

Xiao Heng smiled and said, “It is a real mountain.”

“Eh?” Yu Ya’er froze. “A real mountain?”

Xiao Heng nodded. “Mm, a real mountain.”

Princess Xinyang was a woman of refined tastes. She wanted nothing counterfeit. The rock mountains in the Princess Mansion had been dug up and transported here from elsewhere; the green hills had always been part of the estate, and even the lotus pond was genuine, filled with wild lotus flowers.

The Lanting Courtyard was situated near the lotus pond.

When they had just passed by, a light breeze had rippled across the water, carrying with it the faint fragrance of the lotus blossoms. The scent was refreshing and delightful.

Once inside the bridal chamber, Xiao Heng led Gu Jiao to sit together on the wedding bed.

This was the bed that Little Jing Kong had pressed down earlier. According to folk custom, if a little boy rolled on the bed, it would bless the couple with the early birth of children.

Little Jing Kong did not understand the meaning behind it. In any case, if it meant he got to sleep in JiaoJiao’s bed, he was more than willing!

When the servants saw the young master and young madame arrive, they sensibly withdrew.

Suddenly, with only the two of them left, the room fell into silence.

It was not their first day knowing each other, nor their first time alone together, yet the feeling now was entirely different.

Perhaps it was because, this time, they could finally become husband and wife in the truest sense.

At the thought of what was about to happen, a wave of anticipation welled up in Xiao Heng’s heart, mingled with a touch of nervousness.

“Your heartbeat is so fast.”

From beneath the veil, Gu Jiao suddenly spoke.

Xiao Heng was slightly startled. He looked down and saw that at some point, her slender jade-like fingers had rested upon his pulse.

Truly worthy of being a physician… taking pulses at any time, in any place.

“I…” He opened his mouth, but for a moment did not know how to dispel the awkwardness.

“My heartbeat is fast too.” Gu Jiao pulled his hand over and placed his fingers on her own slender wrist.

Her skin was cool, yet Xiao Heng felt only a burning heat at his fingertips. His heartbeat quickened uncontrollably, his breathing nearly thrown into disorder.

“Young miss.”

Yu Ya’er’s voice came from outside the door.

“What is it?” Gu Jiao asked.

Yu Ya’er replied, “Someone has come from the front hall. They’re urging guye to go over quickly.”

It was still broad daylight, not yet the hour of the wedding night, and Xiao Heng was expected to return to the banquet to entertain the guests.

Gu Jiao said, “Oh.”

Hearing the faintly detached tone in her voice, Xiao Heng could not help but chuckle.

He said to Yu Ya’er, “Got it, tell them to wait a little longer.”

“Yes, guye!” Yu Ya’er happily went off to deliver the message. She knew it. Her own young miss was always the most important in guye’s heart!

“Tired?” Xiao Heng asked Gu Jiao.

“Not tired.” Gu Jiao replied.

It was not mere polite words. She truly was not tired.

The phoenix coronet and wedding robes weighed heavily on most women, but they were nothing compared to her armor. She had fought battles day and night in full gear without ever uttering a complaint. How could a wedding tire her out?

She still had plenty of strength left!

Gurgle~

Her stomach growled.

Xiao Heng gave a small laugh. “You haven’t eaten all day, you must be starving. I’ll have someone bring food.”

Gu Jiao said, “Yu Ya’er can fetch it. You should go and entertain the guests.”

Xiao Heng tilted his lips into a faint smile as he looked at her. “Are you sure?”

Gu Jiao nodded. “The sooner you go, the sooner you’ll be back.”

“That’s right, if you don’t go, they’ll make you drink.”

The voice belonged to Yu Jin.

Yu Jin entered with a smile, carrying a food container.

At the doorway, Yu Ya’er beamed and bowed to her. “Aunt Yu Jin!”

Yu Jin smiled and patted her hand. “You should go eat something too. I’ll stay here.”

Yu Ya’er shook her head. “No, I have to look after my young miss!”

Yu Jin said gently, “Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of her.”

Yu Ya’er looked inside toward Gu Jiao. “Then…”

“Listen to Aunt Yu Jin.” Gu Jiao said.

“Give me the box.” Yu Jin said to Yu Ya’er.

Since Gu Jiao had spoken, Yu Ya’er did not persist. She handed the little medicine chest, tied with red silk and a big red flower, into Yu Jin’s arms. “I’ll trouble you, Aunt Yu Jin!”

“Bi’er.” Yu Jin called to a servant girl beside her, who then led Yu Ya’er off to eat.

Yu Jin, meanwhile, carried the food container into the bridal chamber. She said to Xiao Heng, “Little Marquis, I’m here now. You should go.”

Xiao Heng glanced at Gu Jiao, and softly said, “I’ll be back soon.”

Gu Jiao answered, “Mm.”

Xiao Heng left the Lanting Courtyard.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
