Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Han shi was quite satisfied with the fake Emperor’s response.

This puppet still had some ability of his own.

The fake Emperor’s mocking gaze landed on the real Emperor’s face as he exuded an imposing aura. "Didn’t expect this, did you? Zhen’s mole has long since disappeared. No matter what tricks you used to place an identical one on your rear, it only proves all the more that you’re an impostor trying to impersonate Zhen!"

"Uh, excuse me for a moment." Lord Yanshan raised a hand, interrupting the fake Emperor. "You see, my imperial brother never had a mole on his rear to begin with."

The fake Emperor froze.

W-What?

No mole?

At that moment, not only was he stunned, even Wang Xu was dumbfounded. "But His Highness the Eldest Imperial Grandson told me personally that His Majesty has a hairy mole on his right buttock!"

Lord Yanshan gave him an odd look. "You actually believed a child’s nonsense?"

Wang Xu, who was struck dumb in an instant: "..."

To be honest, the Emperor really didn’t have a hairy mole on his buttocks, which was exactly why he was furious.

Just what kind of ridiculous stories had Shangguan Qing, that little rascal, been spreading about him?

All this, just to get out of doing horse stances? To think he had been branded with a "hairy mole" on his buttock—what other absurdities might that kid come up with next time?

Did he also suddenly “grow” sores on his feet too?

Just how many ridiculous little stories had that mischievous brat been spinning about him behind his back?

Once he got back, if he didn’t beat that kid within an inch of his life, it would truly be an affront to justice!

At this point, unless everyone present was both blind and deaf, the fake Emperor’s cover had already been completely blown in front of them all.

Lord Yanshan had practically been raised by the Emperor himself, so there was absolutely no way he could be mistaken about whether or not the Emperor had that mole.

He had not been biased toward either side.

It was the fake Emperor who had panicked in his own guilt and exposed himself without even being questioned.

There had never been a mole to begin with, yet he had firmly believed there was one. Thus, he had sworn with utter conviction that he had accidentally erased it due to an old injury, even mocking the real Emperor for using some trick to fake his own mole.

What absolute nonsense.

Even storytellers wouldn’t dare write something this absurd!

Lord Yanshan turned to the Emperor with a perfectly serious expression. “I need to see if you actually have a mole on your butt.”

The Emperor’s face remained completely blank as he replied, “Zhen thinks you have a death wish.”

“…Alright, you are my imperial brother.” Lord Yanshan turned to the fake Emperor, then gestured toward the real Emperor and said, “See? My imperial brother is very fierce toward me. He’s not nearly as kind as you all seem to think.”

With the fake Emperor’s countless flaws laid bare and Lord Yanshan standing firmly as a witness, Wang Xu made a decisive call, immediately ordering his men to seize both the fake Emperor and Han shi on the spot!

Gu Chengfeng was rather surprised. Wang Xu never gave the impression of being particularly sharp, but when it truly mattered, he did not hesitate in the slightest.

Perhaps that was precisely why the Emperor had placed so much trust in him.

Wang Xu’s voice rang out sharply. “Imperial guards, I advise you not to interfere—otherwise, you will be charged with treason!”

Some of the imperial guards hesitated.

However, Deputy Commander Han Fu had no intention of surrendering without a fight.

Especially now, at this point, the common soldiers might still be granted clemency, but for someone in his position, there was no doubt that he would be executed!

He drew the longsword from his waist and shouted, “Protect Her Highness and His Majesty! Fight our way out!”

At his command, the front-line imperial guards immediately drew their swords, forming a tight defensive circle around Han shi and the fake Emperor.

Seeing this, the others were roused into action, unsheathing their blades and joining the resistance.

The Emperor’s expression darkened.

These were soldiers of the Great Yan Dynasty, yet now, they were being forced into a bloody confrontation against one another.

Wang Xu and his deputy each took their positions, blocking the paths of the Emperor and Lord Yanshan. Then, with unwavering resolve, Wang Xu raised his hand and gave the order, “Archers, ready!”

The bowstrings were drawn taut, emitting a tense, creaking sound, as the air in the hall grew thick with a murderous aura.

Han Fu roared, “Kill them—!”

Wang Xu swung his arm down. “Loose!”

Arrows flew from their bows with piercing whooshes, slicing through the air and striking the bodies of the imperial guards with deadly precision.

One after another, the imperial guards fell, their agonized cries echoing throughout the hall.

But Wang Xu’s side was not enjoying a complete victory; there were many skilled warriors among the imperial guards, and a number of them managed to escort the fake Emperor and Han shi out of Zhonghe Hall.

Gu Jiao swiftly scaled the artificial rockery in three steps, using it as a springboard to launch herself onto the top of the roof. She turned to a nearby archer and commanded, “Give me your bow.”

Who are you? Why should I give it to you?

Without a word, the archer obediently handed his bow over to Gu Jiao.

Gu Jiao drew the bow with her right hand, nocked an arrow with her left, and took precise aim at the fleeing fake Emperor. With a single shot, she pierced his heart clean through!

The archer beside her was completely dumbfounded.

That distance, that impossible angle…how in the world had a mere eunuch managed such a perfect shot?

Even the slightest miscalculation, if off by just half an inch, and the arrow would have struck the neck of a soldier from the Commandery Office instead.

The fake Emperor collapsed to the ground, blood pooling beneath him in an instant.

Han shi let out a startled cry.

“Your Majesty!”

She could not afford to lose her most crucial chess piece!

She turned back to help him, but Han Fu seized her arm in a firm grip.

Han Fu gritted his teeth and said, “Your Highness! There’s no time! We have to go!”

Han shi refused to accept it. “But His Majesty, he—”

Han Fu’s voice rose in a desperate yell. “He is not the Emperor! And he cannot be saved!”

Han shi’s eyes were filled with bloodshot rage as she stared at the fake Emperor lying motionless in a pool of his own blood.

This was a chess piece she had spent over ten painstaking years carefully cultivating. Was it really going to be lost just like that, so easily?

She hadn’t even had the chance to truly make full use of him!

She refused to accept this!

She refused to accept this!!!

Han Fu swung his sword, slashing a Commandery Office soldier across the chest. “Your Highness! If we don’t leave now, we’re really going to die here!”

Gu Jiao nocked another arrow onto her bowstring, pulling it back to its absolute limit, as if it could snap apart at any moment from the sheer tension.

The archer beside her held his breath, not daring to make a sound.

Most archers used bows with a draw weight of one stone, while elite marksmen could handle two. But this bow… this one was nearly three stone! How could anyone possibly pull it back that far?

How much strength did this eunuch possess?

Gu Jiao took aim at Han shi.

But there were too many people on her own side there as well, and someone kept unintentionally blocking her shot.

She shut one eye, then suddenly shifted her aim and fired an arrow straight up into the air.

Where is this little eunuch trying to shoot?

The archer quickly looked up, only to see the arrow sever a thick tree branch. With a sharp crack, the branch snapped and fell, landing squarely on Han shi’s body!

“Ahhhhh—!”

Han shi let out a pained scream as the heavy tree limb struck her, slamming her to the ground with brutal force.

“Your Highness!” Han Fu struggled to fend off the encroaching soldiers while desperately trying to get closer to Han shi.

By now, the archer had completely stopped questioning why a eunuch knew how to shoot arrows—without hesitation, he obediently handed Gu Jiao another one.

Gu Jiao loosed the arrow, aiming directly for Han shi’s head!

Clang!

A sharp flash of sword light streaked through the air, slicing through the arrow mid-flight and shattering it into pieces.

It was An Hun!

An Hun swiftly brushed aside the fallen tree branch that had pinned Han shi down. Then, without a moment’s pause, he yanked two arrows from the body of a dead imperial guard nearby and spun around, hurling them straight at Gu Jiao!

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
