"Fifth Master! Fifth Master!"
The Han family's death warriors finally located Fifth Master Han, who had been nearly numbed by the cold from the rain that had washed over him.
Although it was summer, the altitude of the Songshan Mountain Range was exceptionally high, causing the temperature to be much lower than elsewhere. Adding to the misery was a terrifying storm that left the severely injured Fifth Master Han clinging to life by a thread.
If not for the Black Demon Horse shielding him from part of the storm with its body, he likely wouldn't have lasted long enough for the Han Family's people to find him.
The leading death warrior propped Fifth Master Han into a sitting position, removing his own cloak to wrap it around him, "Fifth Master!"
Fifth Master Han shivered uncontrollably. His hands and feet had completely lost sensation, and even the muscles in his face were nearly numb.
Given his strength, he shouldn't have been defeated so quickly. Part of it was that he hadn't fought with all his might. But the more significant reason was that, at the exact moment Xiao Liulang attacked, he seemed to glimpse a familiar figure.
It was a figure that he could never erase from his mind, not in this life, the next, or even the one after that.
For a brief moment, his spirit wavered, his entire body froze, and he failed to summon his internal force to counter Xiao Liulang's strike. As a result, he fell victim to Xiao Liulang's attack.
He wasn't defeated by martial skills; he was defeated by his own heart and emotions.
The death warrior spoke with concern, "Let me take you back right away!"
"Don't… don’t worry about me for now…" Fifth Master Han used the last of his strength to force his numb lips to move. "Go… chase… Xiao Liulang… to the first… beacon… camp…"
This group of death warriors was not part of Qi Xuan's faction. Qi Xuan had brought Han Ye's men, while this group was secretly assisting Fifth Master Han on the family head's orders. They had no idea Qi Xuan had also entered the fray.
But one thing was clear: none of them had horses.
"Take… my… horse…"
Xiao Liulang, eager to end the battle quickly, had put all his strength into the three strikes he used to attack me. His body is already exhausted, and his vision is gone. If the Han Family's death warriors could catch up, they’d surely be able to severely injure him and retrieve the secret letter!
The leading death warrior instructed his companions, "You all take Fifth Master back. I'll go after Xiao Liulang!"
Once he caught up, he would deliver the secret letter to Fifth Master Han and escort him to the first beacon camp!
"Understood!" the others responded in unison.
"Wait…" Fifth Master Han stopped him.
"Fifth Master, do you have any other orders?" the death warrior asked.
Fifth Master Han said, "In my… pocket… there’s a bottle of medicine… for the Black Demon Horse… If it can't run anymore… give it… one pill… It will restore its strength…"
"Understood!"
The death warrior retrieved the medicine bottle and turned to mount the Black Demon Horse. At first, the horse was highly uncooperative, throwing him off several times. It was only after Fifth Master Han coaxed and pressured it that the horse finally relented.
Once the horse accepted the rider, its speed could only be described as lightning-fast.
Without stopping, the death warrior raced toward the direction of the first beacon camp.
Meanwhile, on the other side, the battle between Taoist Qingfeng and Liao Chen was nearing its conclusion.
Liao Chen had no intention of killing today. His strikes lacked killing intent, and his strength was restrained. Taoist Qingfeng, however, delivered every move with lethal precision.
Forced to retreat step by step, Liao Chen eventually found his back against a large tree, with no room left to maneuver. Taoist Qingfeng struck with two fingers, sealing his acupoints.
Unable to move, Liao Chen sighed, and with a faint smile, he looked at Taoist Qingfeng, "Taoist, you're truly ruthless."
Taoist Qingfeng raised his palm, aiming directly at Liao Chen's vital point!
He genuinely intended to take his life!
Liao Chen clicked his tongue and activated his internal force, instantly unsealing his acupoints. With a light tap of his toes, he leapt onto a tree branch, gazing down at Taoist Qingfeng with a half-smile, "Refusing the wine of courtesy only to drink the wine of punishment? If you keep pushing, this humble monk might have to get serious."
Taoist Qingfeng, a cultivator of the Dao, possessed a steadfast mind and an indifferent temperament. Unmoved by joy or sorrow, he had long transcended worldly concerns.
Only Liao Chen could provoke Taoist Qingfeng to the point of wanting to kill someone!
Yet today, Taoist Qingfeng suppressed his murderous intent toward Liao Chen, as there were more pressing matters to attend to.
He tilted his head back, his handsome brows and eyes lifting toward Liao Chen, "Come down, and I’ll drink with you."
Liao Chen curved his lips into a smile and gracefully descended.
With a swift motion, Taoist Qingfeng drew a rope from his sleeve and tied Liao Chen up!
Liao Chen: "…"
Taoist Qingfeng hung Liao Chen from a tree and turned to mount his horse.
Liao Chen swayed back and forth beneath the tree like a little silkworm cocoon.
Watching Taoist Qingfeng ride away, he curled his red lips into a smile and cheerfully called out, "If you dare leave, this humble monk will tell the world that you’re the infamous thief who performed a bird showcase under the moonlight, watched by a thousand disciples at Baiyun Temple a few years ago!"
Taoist Qingfeng froze in place, utterly enraged——
......
The rain poured down in torrents.
The Black Demon Horse galloped relentlessly through the storm.
It was young, full of energy, and had endurance far superior to ordinary warhorses.
It ran tirelessly, leaving the Songshan Mountain Range far behind.
Even the crashing thunder couldn’t halt its stride. It resembled a fearless warrior, recklessly chasing its enemy without regard for the consequences.
“Still not fast enough…” The death warrior gripped the reins tightly and wiped the rain from his face.
They had already covered nearly a hundred miles, yet the Black Demon Horse showed no signs of exhaustion. The death warrior had never seen such an extraordinary steed, but its speed needed to increase further.
He took out the pill given by Fifth Master Han and fed it to the horse.
The Black Demon Horse’s depleted stamina quickly recovered, and its speed surged once again.
Finally, after passing through another small grove, the death warrior heard the sound of hoofbeats ahead.
His heart leapt with excitement; it had to be Xiao Liulang, no doubt about it!
By now, night had fallen, and the entire world was shrouded in the deluge.
Riding at high speed on a rainy night was an extremely dangerous endeavor. The rider’s vision was obstructed, and they had to rely heavily on the horse’s instincts.
Ordinary warhorses would typically slow down under such conditions, either due to their rider’s commands or their natural instinct to avoid danger.
But the Black Wind King did not slow down.
It moved through the storm like a bolt of lightning.
The death warrior, hearing the hoofbeats growing fainter, gritted his teeth in frustration. “Damn it! I was so close, but now it feels like the distance is widening again!”
“Hyah!”
“Hyah!”
The death warrior pushed his horse to its limits, finally closing the gap with the Black Wind King. This time, they were impossibly close.
Drawing the long sword from his waist, the death warrior prepared to strike. One clean slash would be enough to severely injure Xiao Liulang!
The Black Wind King raced forward, its muscles taut and rippling with power.
Just as the death warrior swung his sword, the horse abruptly veered to the right, darting into a side path ahead!
“What the—!”
The death warrior’s sword sliced through empty air.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
