Chapter 961: New Family Tradition
Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
The foreman at the factory, noticing Gu Zi’s curiosity about the situation, was well aware of Su Shen’s well-known penchant for pampering his wife. He knew that Su Shen would never keep anything from Gu Zi, especially not matters related to the factory.
Sensing the opportunity, he decided to take the initiative to explain things to her.
“Those people are all business partners of Brother Shen,” he began, offering an amiable smile. “They came to discuss something important today—mainly to introduce a potential new client.”
He paused, then added with a hint of regret, “This client is a big one. If Brother Shen agrees to the deal, it would mean another order for our pig farm, one that could keep us stocked for the next six months. But it seems Brother Shen isn’t too eager to take on this business. These folks have visited several times already, and they were in the office discussing things earlier. But since you were here today, Brother Shen didn’t want to disturb you, so he decided to meet with them outside.”
The foreman’s face betrayed a hint of disappointment. Though he didn’t openly voice it, Gu Zi could tell the factory staff was eager to land the deal. They didn’t understand why Su Shen was reluctant.
It piqued her curiosity, but she trusted Su Shen’s judgment. She didn’t feel the need to press him for answers—after all, he had his reasons.
Meanwhile, at the Su family’s house, Su Jing had just finished the cleaning as Gu Zi had asked. She glanced at the time and was startled by how late it had gotten. “Goodness, it’s already past noon! I didn’t even realize! I need to hurry and start lunch.”
Su Jing sighed in relief, thankful that it was Saturday and Su Li and the others were home.
Su Li, along with the neighbor Gao Ming, was outside playing with Su Le, so she didn’t need to keep an eye on the little one.
It was almost lunchtime before she had finished cleaning. She had to admit, buying such a large house wasn’t always convenient. When she had the money, she promised herself that she’d opt for a two-bedroom, one-living-room place instead—spacious enough to feel comfortable but much easier to maintain.
When Su Jing reached the kitchen, she found that Su Bing was already there, preparing ingredients. He was slicing bitter melon with practiced precision.
Su Jing stood frozen for a moment, watching him. It took her a moment to gather herself before walking over to him.
“Sorry, I lost track of time,” she apologized. “Let me take over. You go ahead and relax, or finish your homework.”
Su Bing glanced at her, his expression softer than before. Since his mother had accepted his aunt, he’d made an effort to be more open with his little aunt.
He continued slicing the bitter melon and responded, “I saw you sweeping outside, so I didn’t bother you. You’ve worked hard. Go rest. I’ll handle lunch today.”
Su Bing had been learning to cook from his mother for a while now. He had already mastered breakfast and could handle lunch and dinner with ease. Whenever he had free time, he practiced new dishes, constantly honing his skills.
Su Jing, unwilling to let him do all the work, pulled some meat from the fridge and began rinsing it. “No way,” she protested. “I’ve already accepted a hundred yuan from my sister-in-law. If I don’t work, she’ll take it back! You should go and rest instead.”
Seeing that Su Jing was insistent, Su Bing didn’t argue further. He had noticed that Su Li and the others were famished after playing all morning.
Just then, Su Li, pulling Su Le by the hand, entered the kitchen, searching for food.
Hearing the conversation between his older brother and his little aunt, Su Li grinned and explained proudly, “Little Aunt, you probably don’t know, but our Su family has a new tradition!”
“The men of the Su family,” he said with a dramatic flair, “we don’t let the women work too hard. And since you’re one of us now, we’ll do the work. That’s why Big Brother insisted you rest. Now, go on and relax. I’ll help out.”
With that, Su Li started looking for something to do, eager to contribute.
Gao Ming, standing nearby, chimed in enthusiastically, “Me too! I’ll help with the cooking! Su Bing, Su Li, I’ll peel the garlic! Lele, you go watch TV with your little aunt! Little aunt, you look after little sister!”
Gao Ming playfully pulled Su Le over to Su Jing, who was deeply moved by the gesture. Su Le, with her big eyes wide open, smiled up at her and stretched out her tiny hand. “Little Aunt, can we go watch TV?” she asked in his sweet, high-pitched voice.
The sight of his innocent face filled Su Jing’s heart with warmth, and her eyes welled up. She had made so many mistakes in the past, letting an unworthy man drive a wedge between her and her family.
Now, here she was, surrounded by the love and care of her own kin. She wiped away her tears quickly and smiled brightly at Su Le. “Of course, we can go watch TV!” she said, her voice full of affection.
Outside, Gu Zi had taken a quick stroll around the grounds but ultimately decided to return to the office. She noticed that Su Shen’s office was a bit dusty, and being surrounded by so many men who likely didn’t pay attention to such details, it was clear the space needed some tidying up.
She couldn’t help but feel a little protective of the office. It was her husband’s work environment, after all, and she couldn’t let it stay untidy.
She began by wiping down the surfaces, taking care not to disturb any important documents. After clearing the dust and giving the room a much-needed cleaning, she moved on to the break room.
As she worked, the sound of steady footsteps approaching from outside caught her attention.
Su Shen had returned.
