Chapter 954: A New Su Jing

Li Hua’s eyes widened with surprise. “Wait a second—are you saying you’re going to be an artist now? That explains everything! No wonder you’ve changed so much. You’re practically radiating artist-in-the-making vibes!”
Su Jing responded with a soft smile, her gaze carrying a newfound serenity. She seemed like a completely different person from the Su Jing of the past.
“I wouldn’t go that far,” she said modestly. “Just because I’m learning doesn’t mean I’ll end up a painter. I’m taking it one step at a time. Back in school, my teachers used to say I had a natural talent for drawing—whatever I sketched always came to life. I didn’t think much of it then, but now I realize this is something I should’ve paid attention to all along. Learning, growing… it’s all about enriching my soul.”
She paused, reflecting on the whirlwind of change she’d experienced over the past few months. Traveling through the northern cities had been eye-opening.
For the first time, she truly understood how narrow her previous worldview had been—how shallow and laughable her actions were. Yet she had been blissfully unaware of it all. What a tragedy it would’ve been to stay that way forever.
But fate had been kind. She had walked away from that version of herself. Now, she was reborn, revitalized. And she knew she had her sister-in-law, Gu Zi, to thank for it.
Su Shen had been right—Gu Zi was the Su family’s lucky star. They all owed her more than they could ever repay.
Li Hua nodded, her face lighting up with a radiant smile. “This is incredible, Su Jing. People always say it’s hard to change, that your nature is fixed, but look at you! Such a transformation in just a few months! Honestly, it’s so heartwarming to see. I always believed the Su family had potential, but now I’m convinced. And you know what? This is great news for Gu Zi, too. She won’t have to worry about the whole sister-in-law dynamic anymore.”
Lin Cheng, who had been driving the truck in comfortable silence, glanced at the women in the rearview mirror. Though he didn’t say a word, he shared their sentiments. Seeing Su Jing’s remarkable transformation made him genuinely happy for Gu Zi. After all, Su Jing’s growth would bring peace to the family—and by extension, to Gu Zi.
The night deepened as Lin Cheng’s truck finally pulled up outside the grand Su family villa.
Su Jing stepped out and found herself staring at the three-story mansion, its elegant façade glowing softly in the moonlight. Her jaw nearly dropped.
Wow… my brother really spared no expense this time. But then again, after years of hard work and financial success, Su Shen deserved to splurge a little.
The Su Jing of the past would’ve been consumed with jealousy at the sight of such luxury. But now? Now, she simply felt gratitude—and a touch of self-reproach.
‘What a petty person I used to be,’ she thought. She shook her head, slapping her cheeks lightly as if to banish the thought, then followed Li Hua and Lin Cheng toward the door.
“Sis! Bro! I’m home!” she called, her voice carrying a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation.
In the courtyard, Su Li was sweeping up fallen leaves when he heard her voice. He froze for a second, then dropped the broom and bolted toward the house like a shot. “Mom! Dad! Little Aunt’s back!” he hollered, his voice echoing through the property.
Su Bing, more composed than his younger brother, calmly opened the gate to greet the visitors. “Little Aunt, Uncle, Auntie,” he said politely. “Come in, please.”
Inside, Gu Zi and Su Shen had already heard the commotion and were making their way to the living room.
When Gu Zi laid eyes on Su Jing, her surprise was evident. She’d changed so much. And it wasn’t just the clothes or the polished demeanor—it was something deeper, something harder to define.
Still, Gu Zi quickly pieced things together. Su Jing must have returned to her hometown, crossed paths with her family, and been escorted here by them.
Before anyone could speak, Su Jing broke the silence. “Surprised, aren’t you?” she teased. “I didn’t write or call on purpose. Wanted to keep it a surprise and show you just how much I’ve changed!”
Gu Zi laughed and gestured toward the couch. “Well, it’s definitely a surprise! Come, sit down. We were just saying how tonight feels like a reunion kind of night—and here you are. Now tell us, where have you been these past few months?”
As everyone settled around the coffee table, Su Bing brought over tea, and Su Li proudly pulled out small cakes from the fridge. “Uncle, Auntie, Little Aunt,” he said, grinning. “You’ve got perfect timing. It’s my birthday today! Luckily, we made extra cake. You can have some too.”
Su Jing’s eyes lit up as if remembering something. She hurried to her luggage, returning with a neatly wrapped box. She handed it to Su Li. “Happy birthday! This is for you—a little toy car I picked up. Hope you like it!”
Su Li gasped, his excitement palpable. “Wow! A gift from you? This is the first time I’ve ever gotten a birthday present from you! Thank you so much, Little Aunt. I promise I’ll get you something for your birthday too!”
Su Jing chuckled softly. “That’s sweet of you, but do you even know when my birthday is?”
Without missing a beat, Su Li puffed up his chest and declared, “July 20th! Next month, right? I’ve already marked it down!”
