Chapter 937: Su Le Sneaks In
Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
The fact that his mother was talking to him about this meant she would support him if he wanted to join the program.
He’d heard that admission to this special class came with the added benefit of being fast-tracked to a top-tier university, bypassing the years of high school. What fantastic news! The sooner he finished his studies, the sooner he could start earning money. Spending so many years in school felt like such a waste.
“Mom, I want to join the Fast-track Class!” Su Bing said eagerly. “Could you help me register for the test?” He had learned from his homeroom teacher that, although his name was already on an internal shortlist, the school had decided to make the testing fair by opening it to all students.
The test would cover both academic and physical fitness. Anyone who scored high enough on both fronts would gain entry into the Fast-track Class for young talents.
Gu Zi immediately called the school, confirming Su Bing’s application for the Fast-track Class.
Everything was going smoothly on their end; however, things at the Xu household were quite the opposite. The moment Xu Sheng returned from school, he felt the tense atmosphere as soon as he walked in. He was so overwhelmed he almost turned to leave, but Huang Fei’s voice stopped him in his tracks.
“Xu Sheng, where do you think you’re going? I’ve arranged a physical training coach for you. Get over here and greet him—start your training immediately. Don’t act like an unruly child with no manners!
“Testing starts next Monday. Your academics don’t worry me, but your physical fitness needs serious work,” she declared with an imperious tone. “The Su kids from the countryside apparently know martial arts, so you’d better not lag behind Su Bing in fitness. Don’t embarrass me. From today on, train with your coach every day after school and make sure you work extra hard!”
Xu Sheng dared not argue and merely nodded, placing his unusually heavy school bag down. He walked over to the trainer, knowing his mother must have mapped out another brutal training regimen.
On the day of the test, Gu Zi brought Su Le along to the school to accompany Su Bing. The test was held on the first floor of the school library, and when they arrived, the crowd of parents and students was astonishing. Easily over a hundred people had gathered, packing the library lobby to the brim.
It seemed the Fast-track Class’s promise of an automatic pathway to a prestigious university had attracted many families, all eager for their children to secure a spot.
Soon, Gu Zi spotted Huang Fei leading Xu Sheng through the crowd, disdainfully sidestepping parents and children in her way. Their eyes met briefly, but, to Gu Zi’s surprise, Huang Fei didn’t approach her.
Gu Zi focused on Su Bing, despite knowing he wouldn’t be nervous. Still, she offered him a reassuring reminder, “Just do your best. No matter the outcome, Mom supports you!”
Standing calmly in the line, Su Bing observed as students and parents emerged from the testing room one by one, heads hung in disappointment. He felt surprisingly detached from the pressure.
The test itself was straightforward. One by one, students entered the testing room, where a university professor invited by the school would administer only three questions. Answering all three correctly meant passing the academic portion, while anything less meant failure.
Su Bing felt confident; to him, the questions wouldn’t be challenging.
Xu Sheng was two students ahead of Su Bing in the line. When he emerged, he was escorted out by a teacher, his face brimming with pride, evidently having passed the test. So far, he was the only student to do so.
Huang Fei hurried up to meet him, beaming. When she noticed Gu Zi, she couldn’t resist raising her voice for effect, “My son has always excelled academically!”
Her chin lifted high, every expression brimming with pride.
Gu Zi, unfazed, smiled back and delivered a quick jab. “Then hurry and get your son back to training. Imagine how embarrassing it would be if he placed last in fitness.”
Huang Fei’s face froze momentarily, but she forced a smile, retorting, “My son’s physical abilities are hardly lacking. Perhaps you should be more concerned with whether your own son can pass this academic test. It’s not like those little schoolyard exams. These questions were set by university professors. I sincerely hope your son is as lucky as he was last time. Xu Sheng, let’s go.”
Pulling Xu Sheng along, Huang Fei strutted out of the library lobby. Meanwhile, Gu Zi had become engrossed in conversation with Yang Zhen, who had no classes and had come specifically to support Gu Zi.
Before long, it was Su Bing’s turn for testing.
But, caught up in her conversation with Yang Zhen, Gu Zi missed a small detail—Su Le had followed closely behind Su Bing right into the testing room.
