Back to the Past: The Rise of the False Heiress Marrying the True Tycoon

Chapter 1229: Good Opportunity

Chapter 1229: Good Opportunity

The next morning, Gu Zi woke to feed the baby.

She felt a soothing sense of relief wash over her entire body. When she glanced at Su Shen, her eyes softened considerably, warmed by gratitude and affection. Had he not helped her with the milk extraction the night before, she would surely have endured a painful, sleepless night.

The taste of breast milk could be strangely metallic and off-putting, something many adults struggled to stomach. Yet Su Shen hadn’t spat out a single drop—truly a testament to his reliability. That husband of hers was surprisingly dependable.

As she fed Teddy, Gu Zi suddenly remembered that the supply of formula was running low. She looked up at Su Shen and said, “I’m still in confinement, and it’s inconvenient for me to go out. Why don’t you take the kids to the mall today? While you’re there, pick up some formula. The baby drinks milk, but it’s never quite enough.”

Su Shen stepped forward, cradling Teddy gently in his arms. “We’ll go right after breakfast. Gu Zi, is there anything else you want me to buy for you? If not, I’ll just pick out something for you.”

Since giving birth, Gu Zi had been especially reluctant to exert her mind. If Su Shen made a decision, she trusted him without hesitation. She nodded, offering a simple, “Then just pick whatever you think is best.”

After breakfast, Su Shen led the three children out the door. Meanwhile, Su Jing tidied the dining table, washed the dishes in the kitchen, then returned to find Gu Zi settled on the couch watching TV. A thought struck her, and she approached.

“Sis-in-law,” she said, “do you remember Huang Fei?”

At the mention of Huang Fei, Gu Zi’s brow furrowed. That woman should have been out of prison for quite some time. Strange—why hadn’t she been back at the Xu family’s place? Xu Sheng had visited their home on Friday afternoon, yet there was no mention of Huang Fei.

“I remember,” Gu Zi replied cautiously. “Have you seen her?”

Su Jing nodded. “Yes, it’s definitely her—though she looks a lot more beaten down. I recognized her right away. I’ve noticed she’s been lingering near our house these past few days, like she’s staking out someone. She went to prison for spreading rumors about you. Now that she’s out, do you think she might be plotting revenge?”

Gu Zi considered this carefully, then shook her head. “I don’t think she’s simply guarding this place for that reason. Maybe she found out that Su Bing and the others are Xu family kids. She might be worried they’ll try to claim the family’s fortune. That’s possible. But Su Jing, aren’t you supposed to deal with Su Mo’s situation? I think this might actually be a good opportunity. Only, since I’m still in confinement, I can’t go with you. Do you think you can handle it alone?”

Su Jing caught Gu Zi’s meaning instantly: use Huang Fei as an excuse to confront her and demand justice for her sister. She knew she could handle it herself—it was time to settle this matter, no need to wait for Gu Zi to finish her confinement.

“I understand,” Su Jing said firmly. “I’ll go get Huang Fei right away.”

Outside, Huang Fei stood at the mouth of the alley, scanning the street hopefully. Maybe Xu Sheng would visit the Su residence today, and she could find out if he could convince Xu Fan not to proceed with the divorce.

Thinking of Xu Fan, a wistful haze softened her gaze. She truly loved Xu Fan. She couldn’t lose him. They couldn’t get divorced. Xu Sheng couldn’t be left without a mother. For Xu Sheng’s sake, she had to hold on.

Suddenly, a hand grasped her wrist. Huang Fei snapped back to reality and saw Su Jing standing in front of her.

“I’ve been watching you for days, Huang Fei,” Su Jing said, gripping her firmly. “You came to Guangcheng with bad intentions toward my sister-in-law, and now that you’re in the capital, you’re still harassing her? What’s your game? Come on—you’re coming with me to the police station!”

Huang Fei struggled fiercely, unwilling to be taken away. “On what grounds? I’m just passing through.”

But Su Jing, raised in the countryside with greater physical strength, held tight without relent. “Passing through? You live around here? You’ve been ‘passing through’ every day for several days in a row. Let’s see if the police buy that ridiculous excuse. Come with me! I need to take you to the station to feel at ease.”

Panicked by Su Jing’s firm grip, Huang Fei realized she couldn’t afford a trip to the police station—not now, not before winning back Xu Fan’s heart. Her voice dropped to a desperate plea. “I’m really not here to spy on Gu Zi or harm her. I’m just waiting for my son. Please, don’t take me to the police. I’m only waiting for Xu Sheng.”

Su Jing narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “Do you take me for a fool? If you want to see your son, why don’t you go to the Xu residence? Instead, you hang around outside my family’s house every day, acting all suspicious. Do you expect me to believe that?”𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Huang Fei tried to explain, voice trembling. “It’s true. Xu Fan and the others won’t let me see my son. Xu Fan wants to divorce me. I have no choice but to hang around here every day. I swear, I have no intention of taking revenge on Gu Zi.”

After all the harsh lessons she’d learned, Huang Fei knew she could never beat Gu Zi. She wasn’t stubbornly clinging to Gu Zi out of spite. She just wanted to keep her position as Mrs. Xu.
