Chapter 632: Regret Using Him

The hooligans closed in around Gu Pei, shoving him roughly. “Kid, you’ve got guts. Snatching a woman from Brother Long, huh?”
“And you, Xu Niannian, you gold-digging b*tch, spending Brother Long’s cash to play around with a gigolo?”
“Mind your language!”
Enraged, Gu Pei lashed out, landing a solid punch on one of the thugs’ faces.
But in retaliation, he found himself on the receiving end of a blow as well.
Despite his martial arts skills, Gu Pei was outnumbered, and the odds were stacked against him.
As the scuffle ensued, the bustling internet café clientele either tuned out with earphones or eagerly spectated the brawl.
Su Ye and Gu Jin watched with a mix of amusement and interest.
After slurping down the last of his white elephant instant noodle soup, Su Ye wiped his mouth and remarked, “Tsk tsk, Boss, your brother isn’t as tough as he talks. Thought he was a lion with all that bravado, turns out he’s just a cub.”
Gu Jin, arms crossed, remained seated at their table, her expression mildly intrigued. She had no intentions of leaving the scene anytime soon.
“Hiss, they’re really laying into him,” Su Ye remarked, wincing as he observed Gu Pei’s rapidly reddening and swelling eyes from the blows.
“But this kid’s got some backbone. Even though he’s clearly outmatched, he’s not backing down. He’s even shielding his girlfriend as he takes the beating,” Su Ye observed, glancing at Gu Jin with a suggestive wink. “Boss, how about we lend a hand and call the cops? Do a good deed for once.”
Knowing the strained relationship between their boss and the Gu family, Su Ye saw an opportunity to teach the Gu family’s kid a lesson.
However, Gu Jin dismissed the idea with a glance. “No need. It’s beneath us.”
Su Ye nodded, understanding her reasoning. “Fair point. He’s still family, after all.”
Meanwhile, the altercation between Gu Pei and the thugs escalated, causing chaos in the internet café. Items crashed to the ground as the other patrons hastily retreated to safety.
Xu Niannian, watching anxiously as Gu Pei bore the brunt of the assault while protecting her, couldn’t help but intervene. “Brother Long, please stop! He’s the young master of the Gu family! If anything happens to him, they won’t let you off!”
“The Gu family?”
“The one from Zhaofeng Entertainment?”
Upon hearing Xu Niannian’s revelation, the hooligans halted their assault and turned their attention to Brother Long.
With a disdainful sneer, Brother Long fixed Gu Pei with an icy glare. “The Gu family, huh? Funny how things work out. Crush them!”
“You heard him, boys!”
“Yeah, who cares about the Gu family? Brother Long is Miss Wang’s man.”
“Miss Wang despises the Gu family the most. We might even get rewarded with booze and smokes for taking them down!”
As the thugs closed in on them once more, Xu Niannian’s complexion drained of color. She hadn’t anticipated their brazen disregard for the Gu family’s influence.
“Xu Niannian, get over here,” Brother Long commanded, his voice carrying authority.
Terror flickered in Xu Niannian’s eyes as her body quivered, instinctively recoiling.
In a bold move, Gu Pei seized her wrist, despite his swollen features, and spoke with a mix of arrogance and youthful bravado. “Xu Niannian, since I brought you out, it’s my duty to protect you.”
Xu Niannian hesitated, uncertainty clouding her expression.
Regret gnawed at Xu Niannian as she watched Gu Pei’s determination despite his injuries.
She had hoped their adversaries would show some restraint upon learning Gu Pei’s identity and his family’s influence. But their audacity, backed by the Wang family, caught her off guard.
“Gu Pei, go,” she urged, her voice tinged with regret as she observed him bleeding from the corner of his mouth. She shut her eyes briefly, her tone turning cold.
Gu Pei’s expression darkened. “What nonsense are you spouting?! You’re my girlfriend, for crying out loud. And as long as there’s a girl being bullied, I, Gu Pei, won’t stand idly by!”
Brother Long had already laid hands on Xu Niannian once. Gu Pei couldn’t risk leaving her alone in such a volatile situation.
