Chapter 1098: The Choice of the Past and Future Light Cone
Editor: Henyee Translations
Gu Yang found herself standing in a vast, chaotic darkness. She couldn’t even see her own fingers in the void.
Suddenly, a bright light pierced through the darkness—a Mobius Ring floating in the air.
She reached out instinctively, and as soon as her fingers touched it, the Mobius Ring transformed into a band that wrapped around her index finger.
In the dark void, with her at the center, two cones of light—one in front and one behind—illuminated the space, like scenes from a movie projected around her.
From the light ahead, a familiar figure appeared.
“Yangyang, I’m gone now, but you have to eat well. No more being picky. If you keep it up, I’ll throw you into the fields to work,” the old man said with mock severity. His hair was white, but his face bore the authority of a man who had once commanded respect. Despite his stern words, the warmth in his eyes couldn’t be hidden.
“Grandpa…”
Gu Yang’s eyes grew misty as she walked toward him, her heart aching with a deep longing.
But as she approached, the old man’s voice and smile began to fade away.
Suddenly, a middle-aged man appeared in his place, his face sharp and calculating, though his body looked frail and sickly. He lay in a hospital bed, barely clinging to life, yet still emanated the dignity of a powerful Family Head.
He pushed a will toward her, his voice steady despite his weakened state. “You are the only legitimate heir of the Gu family. When I’m gone, all the billions of assets will pass to you.”
“As for my illegitimate son,” he continued, “as the future Head of the Gu family, you’ll decide his fate. If he behaves, give him some money. If not, you may deal with him however you see fit.”
This was her father.
Her father had married her mother for business. He didn’t love her, and he didn’t love her mother either. He had a lover outside the family, and an illegitimate child. Yet, before his illness took him, he left the billions of the Gu family’s fortune to her.
“Why do you keep visiting that mental hospital?” he had once asked. “You’re my only daughter, the one I’m counting on to inherit the empire I’ve built in the fashion industry.”
Her mother’s voice echoed next. “Have you learned anything from those international perfumers yet? Even if you can’t create a fragrance, at least learn how to judge one, right? Don’t let the paparazzi catch wind that the heiress of an international perfume brand knows nothing about perfume.”
“And jewelry,” her mother continued, dressed in a chic and elegant outfit, her tone a mix of coaxing and command. “I don’t expect you to be as good a designer as I am, but at least try to understand the business.”
This was her mother.
The scene shifted once more.
She found herself back in the laboratory. A group of researchers in white coats mingled with kind and familiar old men.
When her grandpa wasn’t around, they were more like family than her own.
“Yangyang, come quickly! Let’s discuss that last case together.”
“This patient is giving us such trouble. Yangyang, come and take a look.”
“You’re so smart, so talented—you were born for psychology.”
“Nonsense. She should be studying human mental illness with us!”
The old men smiled warmly at her, their eyes gleaming with affection. They waved her over, inviting her into their world once again.
Gu Yang couldn’t help but smile as she moved toward them, comforted by their familiar faces. Just as she was about to touch their outstretched hands, a soft, pitiful voice broke through the air from behind.
“Sister.”
She froze in place.
It was a young man’s voice, trembling with grief, his sobs barely contained. His words wrapped around her heart, tightening with every syllable.
“Sister, don’t go, okay?”
“You promised… you said you’d always be with me… that you’d never leave me again.”
His voice cracked. “Sister, don’t you want me anymore?”
