Please Save Them
Zhao Chuchu was used to people giving her strange looks.
Even Li Jiang had doubted her in the past.
Zhao Chuchu did not like having to explain herself to people who would never believe her. She would sooner prove her capabilities with her medical skills instead.
“Please drink the medicine, General Gan.” Zhao Chuchu moved to hand the bowl of medicine to General Lin.
“Who is she?” Gan Maosheng looked at Lin Xiang, bewildered. “Where did you find this girl?”
“General Gan, Ms. Chuchu is the divine doctor who saved the people of Lengshui Village. Her prescription is very effective!” Li Jiang tried to explain on behalf of General Lin.
“Her?”
“Yes.”
Although he felt weak, Gan Maosheng did not like anyone treating him like an invalid. He took the bowl of soup and drank it in one gulp.
“Miss, do you know what would happen to you if you try to deceive the military?” Gan Maosheng gave Zhao Chuchu a piercing look.
Zhao Chuchu pretended to look nervous. “General Gan, my prescription is effective against the virus. I have no intention of deceiving anyone. I hope you can look into this carefully.”
General Gan continued to fix his gaze on Zhao Chuchu, but he could not detect any fear or guilt in her expression. He then instructed his men to bring her out.
Lin Xiang asked, “My lord, when I went to Lengshui Village, I noticed that the villagers looked better. This girl’s prescription is indeed effective. Should we submit her prescription to the magistrate so he could dispatch it to other places?”
Gan Maosheng pondered over his words for a moment. “The court has already issued orders to burn down villages where more than half the population has been infected with the plague. Currently, only Lengshui Village in Yuanjiang County meets this criterion. But if the plague rages on, a second or even a third village may be affected. The county authorities have always been slow to act. In addition, this magistrate is timid and afraid of trouble. If we send him to dispatch the prescription, I’m afraid Yuanjiang Country will soon be a piece of barren land. Currently, villages with a high infection rate will most certainly be wiped out. Other than myself, most of the troops from the Weisuo in Guangqing Province have been sent to Yuanjiang County.”
“Then what should we do?”
“I hope this girl’s prescription really works. If I make the trip personally, I may be able to save some of the villages.”
Gan Maosheng’s words were met with silence.
Guangqing Province was the biggest province in the southern part of the Wei Dynasty. There was a dedicated Weisuo in Guangqing Province, whereas the other Weisuos were shared among several provinces simultaneously. However, now that the situation in Yuanjiang County had gotten worse, the court and Guangqing Province authorities were on the verge of abandoning this county.
Unknown to them, Zhao Chuchu had overheard their entire conversation.
She realized that the situation was far worse than she had expected.
She figured that the authorities must have prevented the news from spreading. Otherwise, there likely would have been unrest among the people. That could be why she did not get much information about the situation of the plague from Li Jiang’s men the other day.
“Fortunately, only Lengshui Village had more than half its villagers infected. The other villages should be safe for now. I still have a chance to save them.” Zhao Chuchu consoled herself.
After recuperating for several days, coupled with nutritional supplements, Zhao Chuchu felt that her health had improved by leaps and bounds since the day she arrived in this era.
Although she could only use her supernatural powers twice a day, she could sense that they had grown stronger.
While Zhao Chuchu was staying at the inn, she also helped treat some infected soldiers.
She was very busy until nightfall.
Just then, Gan Maosheng suddenly appeared in front of Zhao Chuchu.
He no longer eyed her with suspicion. He looked more sprightly, unlike the frail-looking man Zhao Chuchu had first met.
“Ms. Chuchu, your medical skills are remarkable. Thank you very much for saving my life.” Gan Maosheng clasped his hands together to thank her.
Zhao Chuchu hurriedly stepped away. “General Gan, you flatter me.”
“Ms. Chuchu, I would like to discuss something with you.”
“My lord, feel free to speak your mind.”
“The plague is rampant in Yuanjiang County, and I’m sure you know the court’s order. I don’t wish to see these innocent people lose their lives. I’m asking you to help to save them.”
