After his short meeting with Sumeri, Ren went to the airport to fetch his parents. This was the day he would surprise them and tell them about his plans to become a gamer to earn money. And if he was lucky enough, he could convince them to forget about their work and move with him instead.
What he got in the game and what he would get in the future was enough for them to live comfortably until they grew old.
Ren slipped past the many people in the lobby and went to the gate where his parents would exit. After about thirty minutes, he saw them with a small bag in their hands while they rove their eyes searching for him.
Ren stood frozen on his spot when he noticed that his parents were skinnier than the last time he saw them. The wrinkles on their faces seemed to be adding each time he stared at them and the hunched on their back seemed to have worsened.
What did they do again in the past month when he wasn’t home? Did they eat soy sauce on rice again just to save for his school? He specifically told them to stop sending allowance and money to him, but it seemed like they were still working nonstop to save money for his tuition in the following semester.
Ren could only sigh while shaking his head. He would definitely convince them to move in with him and they would live like king and queen.
Ren waved at them, and the wrinkles in their eyes became prominent when they smiled at him.
After hugs and greetings, Ren and his parents left the airport and rode a car to Diamond Palace.
On the way to Diamond Palace, riding a Benz that Ren rented, Troy and Helen couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
The Benz leather chair was so expensive that they feared they would dirty or even damage it. The air inside the car was so fresh too. It was the first time they had smelled something like that after so many years. It even had a minty, refreshing feel to it.
What’s more . . . their eyes traveled to their son, who was crossing his legs on his chair, making himself comfortable. The funny thing was . . . he appeared like he owned the vehicle.
There was something in how their son carried himself that made Troy and Helen questioned what happened to him in the past month when he wasn’t with them.
“Ren . . .” Troy cleared his throat before he roved his eyes at the interior of the car. “Shouldn’t we just take the bus going to your dorms? I bet renting a car is expensive here.”
Ren smiled a little. “Don’t worry, dad. It’s already paid, and I don’t live in the Raven dorms anymore.”
Both his parent’s eyes went wide, and worry coated their faces.
“How so?”
“What happened?”
“Did something happen?”
His parent’s frantic voice made Ren’s heart felt big.
“Don’t worry. I wasn’t bullied out from the dorms like what you’re thinking,” Ren reassured them. “Let’s just say that . . . I found a home that very well suits my taste.”
Helen and Troy both look at each other. Even the way their son spoke was different. His voice was still pleasant, but it had some kind of authority and power in it.
“I-I . . . I see . . .” Helen pressed her back on the chair from relief before she sat straight again like a robot, afraid that her clothes would dirty the leather and they would pay for its laundry.
They weren’t used to expensive things; it was the first time they had ridden a branded car. Instead of feeling comfortable, they were restless.
Ren didn’t know whether to laugh or cry from how his parents acted. Maybe surprising them about his new house was a bad idea.
However, it was too late to back out now as they steadily arrived at Diamond Palace, and the car parked at the grand entrance of the building.
“Son,” Troy leaned into Ren and whispered, “I think your driver is lost.”
Ren chuckled. “No, dad. We’re really here.”
“Oh?”
“His new home must be near the place,” Helen said instead to his husband. And the husband and wife went out of the car.
They were about to take their stuff with them when the Bellboy immediately took it from the trunk.
“Uhm . . . That’s our things.” Helen didn’t know what to do. “We’re not checking in here.”
Was this place a hotel? Was Ren going to let them stay in a hotel? But he didn’t mention about it. And this place looked hella expensive.
“It’s fine, mom, dad. Let them do their job.” Ren nodded at the Bellboy while the latter smiled in a practice perfect way.
“Son,” Troy whispered again when Ren urged them inside, and he gasped at the luxury. “I think we can’t afford this place. It’s better if you cancel your reservation here. We can just stay at your place.”
Ren laughed a little, but he decided not to say anything and guided his parents to his private elevator while the Bellboy quietly followed on the side with his parent’s things.
On the way to his unit, the things Helen and troy wanted to say to Ren were halted at the scenic view inside the glass elevator. They momentarily forgot their words, and when the door opened, revealing Ren’s unit, the two older people’s jaws dropped.
The Bellboy carefully laid their things in the living room while Ren gave him some tips and the former bowed and left.
While his parents were still admiring the place, Ren ushered them to their room.
It was Troy who recovered first and faced Ren with a deep scowl on his forehead. “Ren, we can’t afford this place. You go downstairs and cancel the reservation you made here. You cannot waste money like this. You need to save for your school fees and food. Your mother and I are okay to sleep on the floor in your dorm. No need to waste money on us.”
“Your father is right, Ren. We appreciate you doing this for us, but it only makes us agitated knowing that you spent so much on our two-day stay here. No need. Maybe you can get a full refund if we leave now?”
Ren scratched the back of his head while he let his parents rant for a while. And when the two were about to get their things and go down to the concierge to ask for a refund, Ren stopped them.
“Dad, mom. There’s something that I need to tell you,” Ren said with a serious face and voice.
Seeing their son’s face so serious, Helen couldn’t help but clasp her mouth with her hand and cry, “D-don’t tell me . . . did you . . .”
Helen and Troy looked at each other in worry while Troy even hugged his wife.
“Did you make the same mistake we did?” asked Troy.
Ren was about to say that he had bought this place when his parent’s words confused him. “Huh? Mistake?”
Helen sobbed while Troy sighed and shook his head in dismay and disappointment.
Troy looked at Ren and seriously stared at his son’s eyes.
“Who did you get pregnant?”
