Chapter 2498: Hearing
To no one’s surprise, the managers didn’t have anything to do. They just tried to get answers from Sam. But he didn’t care. He just kept them in the dark and by that evening, they all took the disguise serums and left to their next destination.
While things were like this on Sam’s end, they were completely different on Haran’s end.
He was one of the elders that was captured by Sam’s schemes. He was not the first and he was definitely not the last.
He is a member of the Ares academy.
One of his students was humiliated and targeted by Sam before. And Sam doesn’t even remember the student’s name just for the context. But still, the humiliation was obvious and this elder figured the assassination attempt on Sam would be a good thing.
He was one of the few who came up with the plan, did the research into the elders to figure out who could actually take this up.
So, its safe to say that he played a decent role in Pith being involved in this. But not significant enough to be labelled a master or any other mind behind the situation.
But he was captured nonetheless and the day he was released was the biggest pleasure and relief he had in all of his worthless life.
The moment he was released though... he didn’t get the comfort and warm welcome he was expecting.
First of all, the Dean, the rest of the elders, grand elders, everyone with an iota of authority, cornered them.
It was a hearing. With a bunch of them all looking at him.
"What happened to you out there Haran? What did he do to you all these days?"
Haran appeared normal. He didn’t even appeared a bit flustered or frustrated. Just a bit disappointed, but that was about it. He was calm and collected.
"You all saw what he did to me. He captured me in a weird space where I was forced to play a game of chess and then get killed by him hundreds of times.
That space forced my cultivation to be the same as his...
It was weird, painful and torturous."
"That’s it?"
"That’s it. You have seen everything that he has done to me live. He didn’t do anything other than that."
"That kind of torture... what did you give up to escape it? I am sure you gave up something. The information, secrets..."
One of the other elders asked. A guy that Haran had some massive dirt on.
Haran just laughed, or rather chuckled with disappointment oozing out.
"Are you guys idiots? Come on Dean. At least, you should know what that kids is capable of. Do you guys really think he needs to torture me to get any info on you?
He knows everything I know way before I was in even under his radar and probably a lot more info that I could ever learn.
So, stop with these questions.
If you want to expel me from the academy, do it. Or let me go back to my old duties. Maybe if you have new duties for me, because of the newfound incompetence, put me there.
After experiencing a hundred deaths, I would like to go back to some normal."
The Dean looked at him intently and said.
"Alright, go resume your duties. You are reassigned for the training hall. Since all the students are out in the conquest, its mostly empty, and you can relax a bit."
"Thank you, sir. But I have a request for the Dean."
"What would that be?"
"Can I be left alone for the next few days? I don’t want to be bothered by anyone else. I need some peace."
"Sure, Haran. No one shall bother you with any questions about this incident. You can have your peace."
Haran went to his new duties.
For the next three days, he was called by the Dean himself a couple of times to perform some tests. He was physically fine and they didn’t find any damages or manipulations to the soul.
So, by the end of the third day, the Dean also left him alone and let him be.
All these three days, Haran kinda mapped out his own routine a little bit. He actually slept at night. Woke up early. Freshened up, meditated, had a breakfast, went to his duties, in the afternoon, he got tested, he went back to his duties, cultivated for a while after sunset and went to sleep after dinner.
That’s it.
Everyone noticed Haran’s lack of motivation. But apart from that, there was really no difference. He didn’t even have a sense of shame or rage towards Sam. He just became mellowed.
This surprised a lot of people.
On the fourth day, since the tests stopped, he just roamed all over the academy, without doing anything. He went to the academy library, training grounds, smithy, everywhere he had access to.
He was just watching throughout. The Dean did feel a bit odd, but see that Haran wasn’t doing anything, he just had another instructor follow him around.
And it wasn’t just Haran after all.
And he had a lot more people to be wary of, instead of just Haran. He wasn’t the only one that came back from Sam’s captivity.
On the night of the fourth day, Sam and the managers left the Hub discreetly using the disguise serums. They went to the Darkhan planet. The most dangerous and most resourceful world in this conquest. It was the only planet on that level it would take the Deans and Grand Elders to clear it.
Sam had to take dozens of precautions to make sure that he doesn’t die as soon as he appeared in that planet.
Meanwhile, as soon as he and the managers left, a sensor in the hub was activated. It connected to all the hub related devices in the academy realm and looked for Sam’s presence.
When it confirmed that Sam wasn’t present, all the hubs across the regions shut down.
And a bit later, around an hour before midnight, Haran who every expected to hit the sack, did something out of ordinary for his new routine.
