Chapter 771: Rejected
Given their physiques, they might not even withstand a single blow from the enemy.
Still, Yao Tang understood the intentions of President Tan and Tan Jian.
They were doing this for her own good. They gave her the freedom of choice, but at the same time, they didn’t want her to take the wrong path.
And yet, not once did they tell her directly not to join the Green Cloud Pavilion.
“That’s right, we do not fear scoundrels who only prey upon the weak and the innocent. If you think you can do it, then come and kill us!”
Yao Tang raised an eyebrow at that. She wasn’t sure where Tan Jian got the sudden courage to challenge the man across from him.
It was a burly man who wielded a pair of mallets in either hand. He glowered at Tan Jian.
Yao Tang looked up at the sky and noted that the sun was about to set. It was getting late. If she didn’t finish this quickly, she might not make it in time for dinner.
“That’s enough,” she said before anyone else could speak.
She turned to Elder Nie, her eyes cold and unreadable. “I have no interest in joining your organization.”
It was a flat-out rejection.
The smile on Elder Nie’s face froze, and his jaw hung open. For a moment, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything.
It took him a few seconds to find his voice again. “What? What do you mean by that?”
Just now, wasn’t she curious about his secret methods?
How could she flip her switch so quickly and refuse his offer with such resolve?
Were his promises not enough?
But she had so much potential, why would she pass up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?
Could it be that her earlier excitement was just an act?
Elder Nie’s shock morphed into confusion. “Are you sure you don’t want to hone your skills further? What about your cultivation? All you need to do is take one step forward, and I will make it so that your name goes down in history, beloved and admired by all. Don’t you want any of that?”
Although he said this, it was Elder Nie who strode forward.
Deep down, he was slowly panicking.
If he didn’t get Yao Tang now, then all of today’s efforts would be in vain. He would have sacrificed his men for nothing.
And ultimately, it would be his loss.
Yao Tang shot him a look that said he was an idiot. “I was just curious about your methods.”
Her voice was nonchalant, her gaze unclouded.
Elder Nie was dumbstruck. He knew then that she was telling the truth.
She was only interested in his method of cultivation, not in being a part of the Green Cloud Pavilion.
He couldn’t help but feel like a circus monkey who had just been tricked by a little girl.
He was livid. He waved at his people and roared, “Get them! Hurry and do it, we can’t let them escape!”
Hearing their orders, the men raised their weapons and rushed toward Yao Tang and her companions.
Elder Nie barked out a command, telling them to split into two groups.
The armed ones were to attack the trio. There were about 30 of them, and they looked like they could kill a man with a single hit.
The second group converged behind the car. Their task was to harness their spiritual power and use it to mentally attack Yao Tang and the others.
When the fight first broke out, President Tan was full of energy.
He insisted on taking center stage, brandishing his stick. He was ready to smash it against the hooligans’ heads.
As for Tan Jian, he was swinging a baseball bat he had hastily grabbed from one of Elder Nie’s fallen men. He was just as ready for battle as his father.
But they weren’t able to maintain this disposition for long. Soon, a strange, thundering sound filled their ears. It gave them the impression that they were standing in the middle of an orchestra playing at full force.
The problem was that instead of a harmonious melody, they only heard a cacophony of discordant sounds.
The noise swelled to a crescendo. It was so chaotic that President Tan and Tan Jian thought their ears were about to explode.
They covered their ears and screamed in agony.
At that moment, they finally understood why Elder Nie’s men had been reduced to a weeping mess on the ground, rolling and wailing. Others had even bashed the sides of their heads with stones in an attempt to block out the sound.
This was just pure torture.
