Chapter 1680: The Secret of the Positions (II)
"So, you’re the final victor," Wang Wei thought as he glanced at the man named Big Tiger. With a thought, he saw through this person’s life from the beginning to the past 1000 yuan epochs. "While I can appreciate his pursuit of the Dao, I wonder if he thought it was worth it to lose his family?" Based on what he observed, Big Tiger had no regret. His son died of old age despite using the talent pill for cultivation and a technique, while Big Tiger’s wife refused to take them, dying of disease. However, none of these tragedies affected Big Tiger’s life; he remained steadfast in his pursuit of cultivation and the use of the Dream World.
Wang Wei shook his head and focused on the fight at hand. After so many years, most of the inferno has been refined, leaving the last vestige. Big Tiger killed the supposedly final boss of this world and became the first person to reach level 250. However, before he could celebrate, the true last boss showed up: a towering humanoid flame figure that was as big as an asteroid.
’The manifestation of the Fire Law of this world,’ Wang Wei thought. The last obstacle to refining the inferno was the fact that this world had been altered, forcing the fire laws to dominate over everything. While Big Tiger and all the other Inferno Killers were panicking, they suddenly received a notification. As a reward for reaching level 250, Big Tiger received the skill: Divine Ascension.
Upon activation, he can borrow the strength of all the Inferno Killers and raise his strength to an unparalleled realm, thus acquiring the power to save the world. The former hunter did not hesitate to activate the skill. Meanwhile, the other inferno killers had no choice but to lend their powers. Big Tower then transformed into a towering creature to confront the Inferno God.
Wang Wei calmly watched this battle. Everything was already prepared. Upon his victory, all the Yin energy of the world from the past 1000 yuan epoch will be used to balance out the fire law of Heaven and Earth, thus completely extinguishing the inferno; it will also return this world to normal.
Boom!
The sky above the world turned red before a bit of blue slowly crept into it. Once the blue and red balance at 50% each, the world trembled slightly before the sky turned black and white, forming a Yin-Yang Symbol before disappearing. Most people were unaware of what was happening, but they felt a sense of calm and peace; it was as if something that had been looming over their hearts was finally gone.
"It’s done," Wang Wei muttered as he watched Big Tiger destroy the Inferno God with an arrow. "If not for the existence of Kong’s Battle Spirit or the Mortal Dao Art, this concept of Dream Avatar would have been an excellent power system for mortals."
All the Inferno Killers received an update of a sudden new event: The Descent of the Inferno Emperor. A hundred new types of beasts, new weapons, skills, and an update in the exchange list. The world was boiling.
"I will need someone for the final step of this plan," Wang Wei muttered to himself before glancing at the top 20 Inferno Killers. "Let’s observe for a while before choosing someone." With these two concepts already existing, Wang Wei knew he wouldn’t receive much merit, so there was no point in using them. Well, it’s not entirely useless, as he could use it as a marketing tactic once he launches his Dream World.
Wang Wei shifted his eyes away from the dream world, focusing on the trial’s tower. With one step, he arrived above that dimension. As soon as the last flame was extinguished and the world was celebrating, the tower began to vibrate. A few minutes later, an elderly man dressed in blue with a beard more than 10 feet appeared before him. The scholar observed him for a few seconds before activating a talisman that protected his body, making Wang Wei speechless.
"Sorry about that, but you look strong, and I need to protect myself," the elderly man said. "My name is Ye Bao, you can call me Elder Ye."
"Hello, I’m Wang Wei."
Elder Ye nodded before looking in the distance. His eyes traced back in time to observe Wang Wei’s process. However, the latter waved his hand to obscure the sight of him becoming enlightened and condensing the Saint Heart. Elder Ye glanced at him before finishing the observation.
"Well, congratulations. Based on your actions, you should have come for the token and know about our society?"
"That’s right."
"Then, can I assume you wish to join us?"
Wang Wei was once again speechless. Wasn’t that obvious? He was now even more convinced these scholars had low emotional intelligence.
"I need verbal confirmation."
"Yes," Wang Wei nodded.
"Excellent," Elder Ye said as a token materialized on his palm. "You seem like a good seedling."
"Thanks," Wang Wei nodded. He used his soul to refine the token and immediately noticed a countdown. "This is?"
"The time for the next meeting. We will also proceed with your initiation ceremony."
Wang Wei frowned. Based on a brief calculation, the next meeting won’t be for another 100,000 Yuan Epoch, which is past the time he needs to attend that damn counterattack.
"Is something wrong?"
"Can I meet the others before the meeting? It’s kind of an urgency."
"Oh? For what?"
"I’m searching for a technique that can allow avatars or clones to ignore the [Existence Hierarchy] of Saints. I was hoping to find it from your society."
"Clone and [Existence Hierarchy]?" Elder Ye muttered as he caressed his beard. "If I remember correctly, that’s Old Chen’s research."
"So, you do have a technique?"
"Yes. Well, maybe."
Wang Wei waited for an explanation, but what he received was a blank stare. "Elaborate."
"While he’s been researching the topic, I have no idea whether he has succeeded or not."
"I will be fine with the data itself. Can you set up a meeting with Elder Chen for me?"
"That’s not possible."
"Why?"
"Ever since what happened to Old Chu, and a few other things, we have all been a little paranoid. So, unless it’s an official meeting, no one is willing to show up publicly."
"Old Chu? Are you talking about Madman Chu?"
"Mad?" Elder Ye muttered, pained in his voice. "He’s indeed mad."
Wang Wei opened his mouth to ask more, but decided it was not the right time. "Is there any way you can arrange an early meeting with Elder Chen?"
"I’m afraid not," Old Ye shook his head. "And even if I did, I doubt you could get what you want."
"Why?"
"Our society has rules. As a new member, you will only be at the lowest level. You need to climb to a senior member and eventually, an elder. So, even during the meeting, the chances of you meeting Old Chen and having something that catches his eye are slim. Not to mention, some knowledge is considered private and will not be shared."
"I see," Wang Wei sighed. He now had to rule out the clone method for the coming expedition. ’Well, maybe I can work something out with the Saint Dao Heart.’ He was nothing if not flexible. Since he couldn’t find the technique he needed, he would need to improvise.
"Can I ask you some questions about the trial?"
"Of course."
"Were you the one who designed this trial?"
"It’s my work," Old Ye nodded with a smile. "A great design, isn’t it? But don’t praise since you won’t get any reward."
"Yes, great job," Wang Wei said, trying not to roll his eyes. "Were you trying to create a way to stimulate the mind to improve creativity using danger?"
"Hmm? You even noticed this," Old Ye looked at him with shining eyes. "It seems I may have recruited a potential elder." Old Ye nodded in satisfaction. "Your analysis is correct. Ever since I created the Mind-Death Mental Technique, I have never run out of ideas and projects. I’ve also exchanged a few decent things from these stingy other fellows."
"My question is about the limit of each path. There seems to be more to it than just a personal design choice to make the trial more challenging."
"That’s your question?"
Wang Wei’s senses could easily detect how displeased Old Ye was, probably because he showed no interest in the latter’s technique. However, he wanted to return home, so he had no time to pamper this old man.
"Yes."
"I see," he nodded while caressing his beard, and he continued for a good half minute without saying a word.
"Well?"
"Oh. It’s based on the Grand Dao Source Positions."
"What do they have to do with anything?"
"Don’t you know?" Old Ye asked. "As soon as someone condense a Dao Quintessence, that path is forever cut off."
"Are you saying the world can only have 3800 Grand Dao Saint? And whoever comes first will block the path for the ones behind?"
"Exactly."
