Chapter 1583: All The Pieces Are Set
Dugu Baitian and Yan Hai stared at each other for a few seconds, their aura clash twisted the surrounding space. They moved simultaneously to the Void Battlefield, and as soon as they reached their destination, they immediately started the battle. There were no words or other forms of testing — they went straight to killing each other.
"Beast King, it’s been a while since we’ve clashed, hasn’t it?" Wang Chong said with a smile. They were the few individuals who achieved the status of Primal while only being pure body refiners. As such, they were familiar with each other and had a rivalry of their own.
"I hope you won’t run away like a coward this time around," Beast King said. For a better refiner, he looked relatively thin and ordinary, especially with the simple black robe. However, the people familiar with the Beast King knew this was his Docile Mode. Once a battle starts, he’ll enter this Beast Mode, becoming someone completely different.
"This time, you don’t have the boost from blood essence, so why would I run away?" Wang Chong sneered. He cracked his neck. "Even if you still had that blood essence, it’s hard to say who would be the final winner."
The Beast King squinted. He did not like the latter’s confidence. "Let’s see if you’re all talk and have some bite." The upper body of his robe burst open, and his thin frame became muscular. Tribal markings of animals manifested on his skin before the Beast King released a domineering aura of the ultimate predator.
"Now, we’re talking," Wang Chong laughed before also transforming. Wang Wei has long abandoned the Ancient Desolate Transformation, but its creator has not. Wang Chong’s body grew to more than eight feet tall, and his skin turned red with golden tattoos on his chest. Two pairs of horns that curved upward grew on his forehead, his eyes turned red, and a pair of copper bracelets materialized on his wrists. His aura was wild and desolate, seeming to forcefully draw all life energy from its surroundings.
"Let’s fight," Wang Chong roared before entering the Void Battlefield with the Beast King.
"Earth Sword God," Li Ming said as he looked at the young man with yellow hair, brown eyes, a thin frame, dark-green armor, and a massive black sword more than 12 inches wide. His presence was heavy, like the weight of the earth pressing on somebody. Sadly, his reputation meant his intimidation meant nothing to other primals, and just increased their disdain for him.
"Battle Maniac," the Earth Sword God — also known as Lu Zemin — nodded.
"I know it’s pointless to persuade you, but I still want to try," Li Ming said. "You’re not my opponent, so don’t waste your time."
"That may be so," Lu Zemin said calmly. "But I’m willing to put my life on the line for Lord Dugu’s plan to succeed. Are you prepared to do the same?
"You’re truly an anomaly," Li Ming sighed. Anyone who can reach such a realm of cultivation must be ambitious and have a clear sense of self. It’s one thing to respect or even admire someone else, but something entirely different to worship them like Earth Sword God does toward Dugua Baitian.
With such a state of mind, it should have been impossible for him to reach his level of cultivation. However, maybe our sheer talent or some kind of obsession, Lu Zemin did the impossible. He dedicated his body, soul, and spirit to someone else, and yet, he still reached the highest state of cultivation of the Old Age.
"Since it’s pointless to argue, let’s decide the outcome with our fists." The two stopped their clash of words and directly teleported to the Void Battlefield.
Gentle Soil was a beautiful woman with a flame mark on her forehead, which matched perfectly with her flaming red hanfu. She entered the Void Battlefield before waiting for Yan Shirong to show up. Gentle Soil even smiled as a rune appeared in Yan Shirong’s forehead, a sign that the sect’s Qi Luck was now boosting him.
"Do you really think this will make a difference? Do you think because Qiyuan called me the weakest, that means you actually have a chance at winning?"
"I don’t need to win — I just need to stall you long enough," Yan Shirong replied.
"Then, what about your precious Grand Elder? From what I know, he’s probably the most talented individual your sect has ever seen since its creation. Aren’t you worried about his safety?" she asked.
"I know he’ll be fine."
"It’s admirable how much confidence you have in your people," Gentle Soil smiled. "Sadly for you, Qiyuan was unwise to have so much trust and confidence in you." A similar mark appeared on Gentle Soil’s forehead as she also used her faction’s luck to boost her strength. Yan Shirong was the weaker link in the Dao Opening Sect, and his defeat is crucial for the next step of Dugu Baitian’s plan.
Qiyuan looked at his opponent. "Let’s get this over with as quickly as possible." He summoned his Proving Dao Artifact, which manifested in the shape of a book that he called the Book of Origins.
"I know I’m not your opponent, but if you think you can get rid of me easily, you’re mistaken," Sage Glass Pen sneered as he summoned his famous artifact — a translucent brush that shone brighter than diamonds. He waved it a few phrases, manifested in the air.
[A scholar can bend, but cannot be broken.]
[A man’s future is determined by his ability to keep moving forward no matter the obstacle.]
[Heaven and Earth protect those who are virtuous.]
[Virtue, faith, and morality are an armor against an unrighteous life.]
These phrases then turned into an aura that protects the Sage Glass Pen. Qiyuan frowned. If this bastard decided to act like a turtle, this battle could continue on for millions of years — if not Yuan Epochs. ’I need to lure him into lowering his guard,’ Qiyuan thought as he slowly formulated a plan.
Tribal Sacred Mountain:
The two chiefs saw the chaos and immediately became excited. They waited for a while to see if the Saint would suddenly manifest and stop all this chaos. After showing no signs of her presence, they immediately mobilize.
The sacred mountain did not play around. Their two Primals did not just mobilize. No, they took a dozen Peak Paragons and even more regular Paragons and headed directly toward the Demon God Cave. They did not use any excuse or play politics; they directly attacked the cave with their strongest weapon and talisman, trying their best to tear apart their defensive array.
Ten Thousand Buddha Haven:
The four Primals had a brief meeting.
"What should we do?"
"We will mind our own business."
"You know the Saint would not want all this chaos."
"The Saint’s safety is our priority. Right now, she’s in deep meditation. What if an enemy attacks?"
"What could we even do if an enemy of her caliber attacked?"
"We can use our formation to buy her time."
"I still think we should try to do something."
"What exactly? Do you think it’s a coincidence they started fighting just as the Saint can no longer pay attention to the world’s affairs? These people would not listen to us — unless we chose a side. But such an act would only complicate the situation."
"My concern is Dugu Baitian. What should we do if he takes this opportunity to attack the Chosen One?"
"We will cross that bridge if the situation devolves to such a level."
Buddhism was not the only faction that chose to remain neutral. All the others immediately decided to watch and observe, except for Taoism, which debated whether to intervene or not. A small section of their leaders wanted to use this opportunity to attack weaker Overlords and get some benefit.
Another group wanted to mediate. The fundamental issue plaguing Taoism now is its lack of trust and prestige in the world following what their leader — Supreme Unity — did. So, these people believed that if they could mediate a peaceful resolution to this situation, they could regain some prestige for Taoism. Luckily, the majority voted to remain neutral, and these ideals died down.
Another person who became restless was Water Immortal from the Limitless Exchange Hall. He saw the chaos as the perfect opportunity to teach the gods in the Divine Faith Hall a lesson. However, Old Man Black Chess successfully convinced him to calm down and remain neutral.
Origin Seal Continent:
Wang Wei noticed his backup was not coming. His brain reacted as quickly as possible to find a solution. He contacted the Barbarian Race for another deal. With additional data about the Flesh Quintessence, they agreed to come to his help.
Then, a man, close to seven feet tall, wearing animal skin for pants, an open-chest vest with a lion’s mane around his neck, and holding a golden spear with a bone tip, tore apart the space to teleport to the Origin Seal City. He looked at the Terracotta General.
"I don’t think I’ve ever officially hunted a puppet," Toregene Khan said.
