Lena immediately stepped out from behind the reception desk, looped her arm through Dylan's, and led him behind the counter. Mitch looked Dylan up and down and back up again, sizing up Dylan, who looked simple in his casual, plain clothes. Then, "hmph," he immediately smiled with a smug look at Dylan, then looked back at Lena, ignoring Dylan.
"So, Lena, when do you think we can have coffee to discuss your career opportunities?" Mitch said, clearly trying to dismiss Dylan.
"Hmm? Career?" Dylan asked, turning to look at Lena.
"Don't worry about it, honey. I'm not interested. I already told him that, right, sir?" Lena asked, giving Mitch a sharp look.
Mitch fell silent for a moment, then opened his mouth to speak again, but before his voice came out, the door behind the reception area opened. A patient stepped out, followed by Irene.
"Oh, you're here, honey," Irene immediately walked up to Mitch.
"Ah... are you done, babe? I was just talking to Lena because she has a lot of potential to move up and develop in her career," Mitch replied, immediately standing up straight and casually putting his arm around Irene's waist.
"Oh, that's great for Lena," Irene said, smiling at Lena, unaware of her husband's true intentions.
"Excuse me, Doctor, but I'm not interested. Oh, and Doctor, allow me to introduce you, this is my husband, Dylan," Lena said, introducing Dylan.
Before Dylan and Irene could react, suddenly "bang," a loud sound came from the waiting room sofa. "What," Derek was heard shouting as he stood up, and Paul looked confused at his standing son. Derek stared at Dylan and Lena, his face looking as if he couldn't believe it and portraying real heartbreak. After that, Paul also stood up.
"Hey, Derek," Paul said.
"S-sorry, Dad," Derek replied.
The atmosphere became silent. Derek kept staring at Dylan with a face full of resentment, looking as if he wanted to pull out his father's pistol and shoot Dylan right there. Finally, Dylan tried to ignore Derek and turned to look at Irene.
"Um... nice to meet you, Doctor," Dylan said, extending his hand.
"Oh... yes, nice to meet you," Irene replied stiffly, shaking Dylan's hand.
"Alright, let's go, babe. We should grab a bite before we head home," Mitch said, pulling Irene by the waist.
"Oh... okay, honey," (turning to look at Lena) "I'm heading out, Lena," Irene replied.
"Yes, Doctor. Drive safe. See you tomorrow," Lena replied casually.
Irene nodded to Dylan, then she and Mitch immediately turned and walked out of the clinic. Before leaving, Mitch briefly glanced at Lena and winked, making Lena turn her face away. After the two of them left, "bang," Derek approached the desk and slammed his hand down.
"You're Lena's husband, huh?" Derek yelled, pointing at Dylan's face.
"Um... ah... so..."
"Yes, he's my husband. Please don't yell in the clinic," Lena cut Dylan off, clinging tightly to Dylan's arm so her whole body was pressed against his arm.
"So that time you said you were pregnant with his baby was true," Derek muttered, annoyed.
"Yes, and I'm still pregnant now. What's it to you? I love him," Lena replied directly.
"Um... Lena... maybe we shouldn't talk about it anymore," Dylan said, trying to calm Lena.
"I'm sorry, honey, but this guy has gone too far. He keeps saying bad things about you, both in the group chat and in private messages to me. I'm angry. Starting today, I'm blocking his number," Lena replied.
"But why him, Lena... there are so many better guys than him," Derek said.
"Who? You? I already turned you down, so don't act like you own me and have the right to manage my decisions. Please move on. Don't cling to past feelings and force your feelings on me," Lena replied sharply.
Derek immediately fell silent. He realized that he currently looked like a total jerk. He glanced at Dylan, his eyes still conveying that he didn't accept Dylan as Lena's husband, but suddenly,
"That's enough, stop arguing," (holding Derek's shoulder) "Sit down, Derek. You shouldn't act like that. Please don't bother other people anymore," Paul said, standing and walking over to Derek.
Right then, Rosa and Lucas came out from inside, ready to go home because the clinic hours were over. Both were shocked to see the scene in the waiting room.
"Derek, honey? What's going on?" Rosa asked, startled, walking up to Derek and Paul.
"Nothing, just a young people issue," (pulling Derek) "Come on, let's go home. Mom's done," (turning to look at Dylan and Lena) "Excuse us, please," Paul replied, smiling at his wife.
Without saying a word, Paul ushered his wife Rosa and Derek out of the clinic. Then Lucas approached Lena.
"Who is he, Lena?" Lucas asked, pointing at Dylan and smiling kindly.
"He's my husband, Doctor. His name is Dylan," Lena answered.
"H-hello, Doctor," Dylan replied nervously, extending his hand.
"Ah... Lena's husband, I see. Nice to meet you. My name is Lucas, and I'm one of the three doctors here. Nice to meet you, Dylan," Lucas replied warmly, smiling and shaking Dylan's hand.
"Thank you, Doctor. It's a pleasure to meet you," Dylan replied.
"So what just happened?" Lucas asked, curious.
Lena told him everything. Dylan and Lucas listened intently. Then Lucas sighed and looked at Lena and Dylan.
"The important thing is that you don't get tempted by Dr. Irene's husband. The previous receptionist also fell for his charms and ended up having an affair with him," Lucas said.
"Is that so, Doctor? Why hasn't anyone told his wife?" Dylan asked, curious.
"We know because we see his behavior, but we don't have proof, so we can't say anything to Dr. Irene. Besides, nobody wants to get involved in other people's business and drama," Lucas replied.
"That's true," Dylan muttered.
The room was silent for a few moments, then Lucas looked at Dylan and Lena, smiling.
"Alright, I have to go home now. Nice to meet you, Dylan," Lucas replied, smiling.
"You too, Doctor," Dylan replied, smiling.
"Bye, Lena. I'm leaving," Lucas replied.
"Yes, Doctor. See you tomorrow," Lena replied.
Lucas turned, walked to the door, and left. After that, Lena sat back down and held her stomach. Dylan turned to look at Lena, then he knelt down in front of Lena and held her stomach.
"Are you tired?" Dylan asked.
"A little... and it's only the first day, haha," Lena answered, moving her hand so Dylan's hand was holding her stomach and her hand was on top of Dylan's.
"If you want to quit, it's totally okay," Dylan replied.
"No... I want to keep working. I want to help you too, babe," Lena replied, holding Dylan's cheek and smiling.
"Don't push yourself... oh, I ran into your grandmother and Ellie at Mr. Robert's office. When we walked in, she was just leaving, so we didn't get a chance to chat," Dylan said.
"Oh really... how did you know it was my grandmother?" Lena asked.
"Oh (thinking for a moment) E-Ellie knew her, and then she introduced me, haha," Dylan answered.
"I see... I'm glad you've met Grandma. Let's wait a little longer, I still have a few minutes left," Lena replied.
"Okay, I'm here with you," Dylan said, smiling. "Phew... that was close. I can't exactly tell her I know her grandma because I went to her house that night," Dylan muttered in his head.
