"Have you ever dealt with something like that in your previous life? Or were you just too focused on yourself to care about anybody else?"
I paused for just a moment before cracking open my dry lips.
"I did… but he ended up betraying me, so I saw no point in caring about others… although I kind of regret thinking that," I lightly chuckled as my tears slowly began to dissipate and a wave of exhaustion rushed through me.
"Now, get some well-deserved rest… I love you," My mother smiled, kissing the top of my head and leaning on her cheek to receive a kiss from me.
I quickly gave her a peck on the cheek before drifting off into the land of dreams, still in my mother's arms, as she comforted me without a second thought.

(Lucy POV)
As I slowly stroked my daughter's hair, she fell into a deep slumber from all the mental exhaustion she had just gone through.
"Alright… I should probably work on the main problem at hand," I muttered, taking a glance at my phone, which displayed a message from my assistant, who had gathered all the necessary materials needed to build an army of mechs and such.
"Do you think we can ask the monster paradise for help?" A voice echoed from the shadows of the room.
"We can try to negotiate some things, but it's not like this place concerns them. They don't understand the true power of the heroes," I replied, turning to Charna, who slowly came out of the minuscule amount of darkness within the room.
"Although… wasn't a friend of yours there? What was her name again?"
"Oh, that's right… Hmm… okay, we'll meet up with her. I think I'll go with Sophia since she's free for a couple of days in maybe a week. Take care of my daughter, will you? Just make sure she doesn't get killed. That's all I ask of you,"
Charna just stood there for a few seconds, mulling over whether she could trust herself with taking care of my daughter, but I reassured her multiple times that she'd be fine.
"But, if something does happen to her, I hope you know who I'll go to first,"
"Yeah, yeah… I understand. A different life, a different person… or whatever. As long as she keeps doing good, I can forgive her for her past wrongdoings… is that what you wanted me to say? Huh, Lucy? You want me to forgive her for putting you through so much suffering and pain?"
"Yes, and that would be nice if you could forgive her. Clearly, she's trying to change, but constantly taunting her about what she did won't get her anywhere… so stop being selfish and forget about revenge,"
"That's impossible. That's completely impossible… because, from what I saw through your memories when I sifted through them, I saw how much pain you were in, and it made me disappointed in myself that I couldn't get there earlier,"
Charna just couldn't get rid of her past anger, and clearly, that was troubling on and on, no matter how much I tried to reassure her that it was now in the past.
"And she enjoyed it! She was smiling as she practically tortured you for weeks on end! Torture! Humiliation! I'm sure she was thinking of much more devious things than just that…!"
I stared at her, waiting for her to finish, and as she eventually calmed her breathing, I then spoke up.
"I'm glad you're so protective of me, but I have nothing more to say to you," I muttered, walking out of the room, allowing her to really think everything over.

Still, I was unable to gain stats as I leveled up, but thankfully I was approaching the final stretch until my next evolution.
I was excited and couldn't wait any longer, forcing myself to get up bright and early the next morning, hugging my drowsy daughter goodbye, and then heading off to a massive trench that split its way through one of Japan's biggest prefectures.
"Tokyo… always smells so good," I muttered, walking through the streets filled with technology and lots of neon lights.
It was a very aesthetic place to walk through in the morning, and even as it was raining, the smell of fresh food being cooked up in cheap stands continued to waft through the air.
"Good morning," I yawned, taking off my hood and sitting at one of the stools prepared just before the stand.
I looked inside to see an old man already grabbing my favorite pastry out of his stash and even giving me a complementary cup of orange juice, which I didn't complain about.
"Thanks… what's up with the special occasion?"
"Same guys tried to take my business yesterday, but your men took care of it. I just wanted to thank you for giving me so much assistance and protection,"
"No problem, but you should probably thank the actual people who protected you," I smiled, with three men taking off the hoods to their raincoats before filling in the rest of the seats.
His eyes lit up before quickly handing them the same order that I usually get.
"Just put it on my card… I don't want you to go out of business from having it getting taken, but I also don't want you to lose money,"
"Yes, ma'am… Now eat up; that's her favorite order, so if you have any complaints, take it to her," The old man smiled, and the three men sitting around me swiftly shook their heads side to side.
