My body turned numb, and then I reached out for a light, forcing me to appear in a new unknown place that looked like a normal metropolis with towering buildings and bustling streets.
There was a heavy scent of smoke wafting through the air, and before I knew it, a woman with green hair greeted me, her sister with dark blue hair standing right beside her.
The green-haired one looked to be about six feet, while the dark blue hair one was just a bit under six feet, yet she was the oldest.
"H-Hello," I stuttered, intimated by the onlookers from behind the two women.
"Welcome to New York City!" The woman let out a big toothy smile. "And welcome to your new home for the rest of the week… well, hopefully."
"Stop scaring her and let's get going. People are already staring," The blue-haired woman muttered before gesturing for us to follow.
We quickly followed her down the bustling streets, with me nearly getting lost in the sea of people multiple times without fail.
It was almost incredible how easily I got lost, but eventually we managed to arrive at our destination which was a large office building.
The green-haired woman entered, settling some things with the blue-haired woman turning towards me and asking,
"Do you remember us?"
"Y-Yes… Aunt Amanda and Aunt Aria," I quickly replied and the cold woman's surprisingly warm smile was a new sight to behold.
She had a familiarity with her that reminded me of my mother, who was constantly serious and working, but when she got the chance, she would be a warm and caring mother who would always take care of me no matter what.
"W-What is Auntie doing?" I timidly asked since this woman was absolutely terrifying for some reason.
My body just shook standing next to her and my maids noticed this as soon my maid of ice began to slowly rub the top of my head while emitting a cooling sensation.
"Please turn off whatever skill you're using. Our Young Miss is terrified,"
"Oh, sorry about that. We just came back from a dungeon clearing. I didn't mean to frighten you," The woman muttered, slowly approaching me and cupping my left cheek with her hand, lightly rubbing my face with her thumb.
"It's fine… umm… Auntie Aria, right?" I asked and the woman nodded lightly before putting out the palm of her hand.
"Let's get going," She softly muttered and I instinctually took her hand where she brought me inside the surprisingly empty building.
But I didn't have much more time to look around as we soon entered an elevator that went down despite the buttons only going to the ground level.
"This is one of the many entrances that we have to our base. Don't be surprised because we have many other wacky ones," Auntie Amanda chuckled before glancing at my hand which was still holding Auntie Aria's.
She took a quick glance at her before they met eyes.
"Do you want to take care of her for the day? Both of us can't be out and I'm willing to bet you don't want to work… how does that sound?"
"Sounds good. I'll be sure to introduce her to everyone," Auntie Aria smiled, and as my other aunt smiled back, the ding of the elevator soon permeated through the air.
We arrived at our next destination clad with metal walls and was very, very chilly, causing me to immediately shiver upon stepping outside of the metal transport.
Suddenly, a man came running up to us with nerdy glasses and a bent-over, nervous posture, but he seemed capable as he had a tablet with various things moving on it.
He looked to be some kind of manager.
"Y-Your excellency, you called?" The man asked, heaving as he bent over, placing his hands on his knees to hopefully catch his breath.
"Please turn on the heater. Also, let the kids out for an early play time… I want to introduce them to my niece,"
"A-As you wish," He stuttered, quickly running off, nearly tripping on his own feet as he stumbled across the large metal base we were in.
Where we were currently was a place bustling with various scientists who were running around, and when I took a glance upwards, I suddenly saw a large missile planted at the very back of the room.
"What is that for?" I asked, gripping my aunt's hand even tighter.
"It's to destroy our enemies. We had to handcraft a missile infused with enough magic power that it could destroy dungeon runners. Normally, we carry our inventions to the launching site where we then aim it at an enemy or threatening adventurer guild."
She said all of this with a dead calm look as if she had been doing this for quite a while now.
"Wow, so you work here?" I asked, my mouth agape as I looked at the massive piece of technology that I could never have even imagined in my past life.
"Sometimes, but that isn't the main point of this facility," Auntie smiled before taking me across the hall where an automatic door opened, revealing a large open room with trees painted on the walls and children in pure white clothes.
They all ran around, playing and rolling around with each other while some decided to just stay in the corner of the room and read.
"This place is a facility to raise orphans who've been abandoned by their parents, by the world, by their country. Your mother, Lucy, helps fund part of this program since it is quite an expensive one,"
"I-I see…" I muttered, kind of shocked at how diverse this place was.
But then, suddenly another pair of doors automatically opened, revealing two groups of five older teens who looked to be about eighteen to nineteen years old.
"These are some of the oldest ones who we've been growing for quite some time now."
Growing? What a weird way of putting it…
